1 P erché tumultuano le nazioni, e i popoli tramano cose vane?

¶ Why do the Gentiles rage, and the peoples imagine a vain thing?

2 I re della terra si ritrovano e i principi si consigliano insieme contro l'Eterno e contro il suo Unto,

The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his anointed, saying,

3 d icendo: «Rompiamo i loro legami e sbarazziamoci delle loro funi».

let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from us.

4 C olui che siede nei cieli riderà, il Signore si farà beffe di loro.

He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 A llora parlerà loro nella sua ira, e nel suo grande sdegno li spaventerà,

Then he shall speak unto them in his wrath and trouble them in his sore displeasure.

6 e dirà: «Ho insediato il mio re sopra Sion, il mio santo monte.

Yet I have set my king upon Zion, the mountain of my holiness.

7 D ichiarerò il decreto dell'Eterno. Egli mi ha detto: "Tu sei mio figlio oggi io ti ho generato.

¶ I will declare the decree; the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day I have begotten thee.

8 C hiedimi, e io ti darò le nazioni come tua eredità e le estremità della terra per tua possessione.

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the Gentiles for thine inheritance and unto the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 T u le spezzerai con una verga di ferro, le frantumerai come un vaso d'argilla"».

Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 O ra dunque, o re, siate savi, accettate la correzione, o giudici della terra.

¶ Understand now therefore, O ye kings: receive chastening, ye judges of the earth.

11 S ervite l'Eterno con timore e gioite con tremore.

Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 S ottomettetevi al Figlio, perché non si adiri e non periate per via, perché la sua ira può accendersi in un momento. Beati tutti coloro che si rifugiano in lui.

Kiss the Son lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way when his wrath is kindled in a little while. Blessed are all those that put their trust in him.
