¶ When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

Judah was his holiness, and Israel his dominion.

The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back.

4 I monti saltellarono come montoni i colli come agnelli.

The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs.

5 C he avevi tu, o mare per fuggire, e tu, o Giordano, per tornare indietro?

What came upon thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee? And thou O Jordan, that thou wast driven back?

6 E voi, o monti, per saltellare come montoni, e voi, o colli, come agnelli?

Ye mountains, why didst ye skip like rams and ye little hills, like lambs?

7 T rema, o terra, alla presenza del Signore, alla presenza del DIO di Giacobbe,

At the presence of the Lord, the earth trembles, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 c he mutò la roccia in un lago, il macigno in una sorgente d'acqua.

who turned the rock into a reservoir of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
