1 O ra, quanto ai tempi e alle stagioni, fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva,

¶ But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2 p oiché voi stessi sapete molto bene che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.

For ye know well that the day of the Lord shall come as a thief in the night.

3 Q uando infatti diranno: «Pace e sicurezza», allora una subitanea rovina cadrà loro addosso, come le doglie di parto alla donna incinta e non scamperanno affatto.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction shall come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 M a voi, fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, cosí che quel giorno vi sorprenda come un ladro.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should take you as a thief.

5 V oi tutti siete figli della luce e figli del giorno; noi non siamo della notte né delle tenebre.

Ye are all the sons of light, and the sons of the day; we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6 P erciò non dormiamo come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo sobri.

¶ Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7 I nfatti coloro che dormono, dormono di notte, e coloro che s'inebriano, s'inebriano di notte.

For those that sleep in the night, and those that are drunken are drunken in the night.

8 M a noi, poiché siamo del giorno, siamo sobri, avendo rivestito la corazza della fede e dell'amore, e preso per elmo la speranza della salvezza.

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and charity, and for a helmet, the hope of saving health.

9 P oiché Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma ad ottenere salvezza per mezzo del Signore nostro Gesú Cristo,

For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain saving health by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 i l quale è morto per noi perché, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.

who died for us, that whether we watch or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 P erciò consolatevi gli uni gli altri ed edificatevi l'un l'altro, come già fate.

¶ Therefore comfort and edify one another, even as ye do.

12 O ra, fratelli, vi preghiamo di aver rispetto per quelli che si affaticano fra di voi, che vi sono preposti nel Signore e che vi ammoniscono,

And we beseech you, brethren, to recognize those who labour among you and preside over you in the Lord and admonish you

13 e di averli in somma stima nell'amore per la loro opera. Vivete in pace fra voi.

and that you express greater charity unto them for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14 O ra, fratelli, vi esortiamo ad ammonire i disordinati, a confortare gli scoraggiati, a sostenere i deboli e ad essere pazienti verso tutti.

We also exhort you, brethren, that you warn those that are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with everyone.

15 G uardate che nessuno renda male per male ad alcuno; anzi procacciate sempre il bene gli uni verso gli altri e verso tutti.

See that no one renders evil for evil unto anyone, but always follow that which is good, both among yourselves and to all men.

16 S iate sempre allegri.

¶ Always rejoice.

17 N on cessate mai di pregare

Pray without ceasing.

18 I n ogni cosa rendete grazie, perché tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesú verso di voi.

In every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

19 N on spegnete lo Spirito.

Quench not the Spirit.

20 N on disprezzate le profezie.

Despise not prophecies.

21 P rovate ogni cosa, ritenete il bene.

Examine all things; retain that which is good.

22 A stenetevi da ogni apparenza di male.

Separate yourselves from all appearance of evil.

23 O ra il Dio della pace vi santifichi egli stesso completamente; e l'intero vostro spirito, anima e corpo siano conservati irreprensibili per la venuta del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo.

¶ And the very God of peace sanctify you completely, that your spirit, soul, and body be preserved whole without reprehension for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24 F edele è colui che vi chiama, e farà anche questo.

Faithful is he that has called you, who will also do it.

25 F ratelli, pregate per noi.

Brethren, pray for us.

26 S alutate tutti i fratelli con un santo bacio.

Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss.

27 V i scongiuro per il Signore che questa epistola sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.

I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

28 L a grazia del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo sia con voi. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
