1 F iglio mio, fa' attenzione alla mia sapienza, porgi l'orecchio al mio intendimento

¶ My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my intelligence;

2 a ffinché tu custodisca la riflessione e le tue labbra ritengano la conoscenza.

that thou may keep council and that thy lips may conserve knowledge.

3 P oiché le labbra della donna adultera stillano miele e la sua bocca è piú morbida dell'olio;

For the lips of the strange woman drop as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil,

4 m a alla fine ella è amara come l'assenzio, tagliente come una spada a due tagli.

But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.

5 I suoi piedi scendono alla morte, i suoi passi portano direttamente allo Sceol.

Her feet go down to death, her steps uphold Sheol,

6 E ssa non cammina sul sentiero della vita, ma tu non dai peso alla cosa, le sue vie sono erranti, ma tu non ti rendi conto.

lest thou should ponder the path of life, her ways are unstable; thou shalt not know them.

7 P erciò ora, figli miei, ascoltatemi e non allontanatevi dalle parole della mia bocca.

Hear me now therefore, O ye sons, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.

8 T ieni lontana da lei la tua via, e non avvicinarti alla porta della sua casa

Remove thy way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house,

9 p er non dare ad altri il tuo vigore, e i tuoi anni a uno senza pietà.

lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel,

10 P erché gli estranei non si sazino dei tuoi beni, e le tue fatiche non vadano in casa di uno straniero,

lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger,

11 e non gema quando verrà la tua fine, quando la tua carne e il tuo corpo saranno consumati,

and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed

12 e debba dire: «Come mai ho odiato l'ammaestramento, e il mio cuore ha disprezzato la correzione?

and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof

13 N on ho ascoltato la voce di quelli che mi ammaestravano e non ho prestato orecchio a quelli che mi insegnavano.

and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

14 M i sono trovato quasi nel male totale in mezzo alla folla e all'assemblea».

I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation.

15 B evi l'acqua della tua cisterna e l'acqua corrente del tuo pozzo.

¶ Drink waters out of thine own cistern and running waters out of thine own well.

16 D ovrebbero le tue fonti spargersi al di fuori, come ruscelli d'acqua per le strade?

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of thy waters in the streets.

17 S iano per te solo e non per gli estranei insieme a te.

Let them be only thine own and not for strangers with thee.

18 S ia benedetta la tua fonte e rallegrati con la sposa della tua gioventú.

Thy fountain shall be blessed; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

19 C erva amabile e gazzella graziosa, le sue mammelle ti soddisfino in ogni tempo, e sii continuamente rapito nel suo amore.

Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love, without eyes for anyone else.

20 P erché mai, figlio mio, invaghirti di una donna adultera e abbracciare il seno di un'estranea?

And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a woman belonging to someone else, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

21 P oiché le vie dell'uomo stanno davanti agli occhi dell'Eterno, ed egli scruta tutti i suoi sentieri.

For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he weighs all his goings.

22 L 'empio è preso nelle sue stesse iniquità e trattenuto dalle funi del suo peccato.

His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

23 E gli morrà per mancanza di correzione e perirà per la grandezza della sua follia.

He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
