1 « Mandate un agnello al dominatore del paese, da Sela verso il deserto, al monte della figlia di Sion.

¶ Send ye the lamb to the ruler of the land, from the rock of the wilderness unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.

2 P oiché avverrà che ai guadi dell'Arnon le figlie di Moab saranno come un uccello scacciato dal nido.

For it shall be that as a wandering bird cast out of the nest so the daughters of Moab shall be at the fords of Arnon.

3 D acci un consiglio, fa' giustizia! Rendi la tua ombra come la notte in pieno mezzodí; nascondi i dispersi, non tradire i fuggiaschi.

Take counsel; execute judgment; make thy shadow as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; do not betray him that escapes.

4 O Moab, lascia dimorare presso di te i miei dispersi, sii per loro un rifugio di fronte al devastatore. Poiché il tiranno non c'è piú, la devastazione è cessata, gli oppressori sono scomparsi dal paese.

Let my outcasts dwell with thee, Moab; be thou a covert to them from the presence of the destroyer; for the extortioner shall come to an end, the destroyer shall cease, the oppressor shall be consumed out of the land.

5 A llora un trono sarà reso stabile nella misericordia, e su di esso siederà nella fedeltà, nella tenda di Davide, uno che giudicherà, eserciterà il giudizio e sarà pronto a far giustizia».

And in mercy shall the throne be established; and he shall sit upon it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging and seeking judgment and hastening righteousness.

6 « Noi abbiamo sentito parlare dell'orgoglio di Moab, estremamente orgoglioso, della sua alterigia, della sua superbia, della sua arroganza, del suo vantarsi senza fondamento».

¶ We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud, even of his haughtiness and his pride and his wrath, but his lies shall not be so.

7 P er questo Moab innalzerà un lamento per Moab, tutti si lamenteranno. Voi piangerete costernati per le focacce di uva di Kir-Hareseth.

Therefore shall Moab howl for Moab; every one shall howl; for the foundations of Kirhareseth shall ye mourn; surely they are stricken.

8 P oiché le campagne di Heshbon languiscono, come pure le vigne di Sibmah i padroni delle nazioni hanno distrutto le sue piante migliori che arrivavano fino a Jazer e erravano per il deserto, i suoi rami si estendevano e oltrepassavano il mare.

For the vines of Heshbon were cut off and the vines of Sibmah; the lords of the Gentiles have trodden down the offshoots thereof, which had come even unto Jazer and extended through the wilderness; they had gone over the sea.

9 P erciò con il pianto di Jazer piangerò le vigne di Sibmah; ti inzupperò con le mie lacrime, o Heshbon, o Elealeh, perché sui tuoi frutti d'estate e sulle tue messi si è abbattuto un grido di guerra.

Therefore I will bewail with the weeping Jazer of the vine of Sibmah; I will cause thee to drink my tears, O Heshbon and Elealeh, for the song shall cease upon thy summer fruits and thy harvest.

10 L a gioia e il giubilo sono scomparsi dalla fertile campagna; nelle vigne non ci sono piú canti, né grida d'allegrezza; il pigiatore non pigia piú il vino nei tini; io ho fatto cessare il grido di gioia.

And gladness is taken away and joy out of the fertile field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be rejoicing: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage song to cease.

11 P erciò le mie viscere fremono per Moab come un'arpa, e il mio interiore per Kir-Heres.

Therefore my bowels shall sound like a harp for Moab and my inward parts for Kirharesh.

12 E avverrà che quando Moab si presenterà e si stancherà sull'alto luogo, entrerà nel suo santuario per pregare, ma non otterrà nulla.

And it shall come to pass when it is seen that Moab is weary upon the high places that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray, but he shall be unable to.

13 Q uesta è la parola che l'Eterno indirizzò un tempo a Moab.

This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning Moab since that time.

14 M a ora l'Eterno ha parlato, dicendo: «Entro tre anni, come gli anni di un bracciante salariato, la gloria di Moab cadrà in disprezzo insieme a tutta quella grande moltitudine; e rimarrà solamente un numero molto piccolo e debole».

But now the LORD has spoken, saying, Within three years, as a hireling counts the years, the glory of Moab shall be cast down, with all her great multitude; and the remnant shall be few, small and feeble.
