1 P reghiera del profeta Habacuc su Scighionoth.

¶ A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, because of all the ignorance.

2 « O Eterno, io ho udito il tuo parlare e ho paura; o Eterno, fa' rivivere la tua opera nel corso degli anni, nel corso degli anni falla conoscere. Nell'ira ricordati della compassione.

O LORD, I have heard thy word and was afraid; O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the times; in the midst of the times make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

3 D io veniva da Teman, il Santo dal monte Paran. La sua gloria copriva i cieli e la terra era piena della sua lode.

¶ God shall come from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was filled with his praise.

4 I l suo splendore era come la luce, raggi si sprigionavano dalla sua mano e là era nascosta la sua potenza.

And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand; and there was hidden his strength.

5 D avanti a lui camminava la peste e pestilenza ardente seguiva i suoi passi.

Before his face went mortality, and burning coals went forth from his feet.

6 E gli si fermava e misurava la terra, guardava e faceva tremare le nazioni, i monti eterni si disperdevano, i colli antichi si abbassavano; le sue vie sono eterne.

He stood and measured the earth; he beheld and drove out the Gentiles; and the ancient mountains crumbled, the ancient hills; the ways of the world bowed unto him.

7 I o vedevo nell'afflizione le tende di Kushan, i padiglioni del paese di Madian tremavano.

I saw the tents of Cushan as nothing, and the curtains of the land of Midian trembled.

8 O Eterno, ardeva forse la tua ira contro i fiumi? O era la tua ira contro i fiumi o il tuo furore contro il mare, quando cavalcavi sui tuoi cavalli, sui tuoi carri di vittoria?

Oh LORD, wast thou displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath even against the sea when thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of saving health?

9 T u hai messo interamente a nudo il tuo arco, secondo i giuramenti fatti sulle tue frecce. Tu hai diviso la terra con i fiumi.

Thy bow was entirely uncovered, and the oaths unto the tribes, eternal word, when thou didst divide the earth with rivers.

10 I monti ti videro e tremarono; l'uragano d'acqua è passato; l'abisso ha fatto udire la sua voce, e ha levato in alto le mani.

The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the waters passed by; the abyss uttered its voice; the deep lifted up its hands.

11 I l sole e la luna sono rimasti nella loro dimora; alla luce delle tue frecce si sono mossi veloci, al lampeggiare della tua lancia sfolgorante.

The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

12 T u hai percorso la terra indignato, hai calpestato le nazioni adirato.

Thou didst tread upon the land in wrath; thou didst thresh the Gentiles in anger.

13 S ei uscito per salvare il tuo popolo, per salvare il tuo unto, tu hai colpito la testa della casa dell'empio, mettendola a nudo dalle fondamenta al collo.

Thou didst go forth to save thy people, to save with thine anointed; thou didst shatter the head of the house of the wicked by uncovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.

14 T u hai trafitto con i loro propri dardi la testa dei suoi villaggi; essi erano venuti come un uragano per disperderli, mandando grida di gioia, come se divorassero il misero in segreto.

Thou didst strike through with his staffs the heads of his villages, who as a whirlwind attempted to scatter me; their pride was as to devour the poor secretly.

15 C on i tuoi cavalli hai camminato attraverso il mare, attraverso un mucchio di molte acque.

Thou didst make a way through the sea for thine horses through the heap of great waters.

16 H o udito e le mie viscere fremettero a quella voce le mie labbra tremarono un tarlo entrò nelle mie ossa, e fui preso da gran paura dentro di me. Tuttavia rimarrò tranquillo nel giorno dell'avversità, che verrà contro il popolo che lo invade.

¶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice; rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my seat, that I might rest in the day of trouble when he comes up unto the people to destroy them.

17 A nche se il fico non fiorirà e non ci sarà alcun frutto sulle viti, anche se il lavoro dell'ulivo sarà deludente e i campi non daranno piú cibo, anche se le greggi scompariranno dagli ovili e non ci saranno piú buoi nelle stalle,

Because the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be on the vines; the labour of the olive shall lie, and the cultivated fields shall yield no food; the sheep shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18 e sulterò nell'Eterno e mi rallegrerò nel DIO della mia salvezza.

yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will joy in the God of my saving health.

19 L 'Eterno, il Signore, è la mia forza; egli renderà i miei piedi come quelli delle cerve e mi farà camminare sulle mie alture». Al maestro del coro. Per strumenti a corda.

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and upon my high places he will cause me to walk victorious in my instruments of music.
