1 P aolo, chiamato ad essere apostolo di Gesú Cristo, per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Sostene,

¶ Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes, our brother,

2 a lla chiesa di Dio che è in Corinto ai santificati in Gesú Cristo, chiamati ad essere santi, insieme a tutti quelli che in qualunque luogo invocano il nome di Gesú Cristo, loro Signore e nostro:

unto the congregation of God which is at Corinth, to those that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

3 g razia e pace a voi da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesú Cristo.

Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I o rendo continuamente grazie per voi al mio Dio, a motivo della grazia di Dio che vi è stata data in Cristo Gesú,

I thank my God always on your behalf for the grace of God which is given you in Christ Jesus,

5 p erché in lui siete stati arricchiti in ogni cosa, in ogni dono di parola e in ogni conoscenza,

that in every thing ye are enriched in him in all word and in all knowledge,

6 p er la testimonianza di Cristo che è stata confermata tra voi,

with which the testimony of the Christ was confirmed in you,

7 c osí che non vi manca alcun dono mentre aspettate la manifestazione del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo,

so that ye lack nothing in any gift, waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

8 i l quale vi confermerà fino alla fine, affinché siate irreprensibili nel giorno del nostro Signore Gesú Cristo.

who shall also confirm that ye shall remain unimpeachable unto the end, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 F edele è Dio dal quale siete stati chiamati alla comunione del suo Figlio Gesú Cristo, nostro Signore.

God is faithful, by whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

10 O ra, fratelli, vi esorto nel nome del nostro Signore Gesú Cristo ad avere tutti un medesimo parlare e a non avere divisioni tra di voi, ma ad essere perfettamente uniti in un medesimo modo di pensare e di volere.

¶ Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that ye be perfect, joined together in the same understanding and in the same perception.

11 M i è stato segnalato infatti a vostro riguardo, fratelli miei, da quelli della casa di Cloe, che vi sono contese fra voi.

For it has been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by those of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

12 O r voglio dire questo, che ciascuno di voi dice: «Io sono di Paolo», «io di Apollo», «io di Cefa» ed «io di Cristo».

In other words, that each one of you says, I am of Paul, and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas, and I of Christ.

13 C risto è forse diviso? Paolo è stato forse crocifisso per voi? O siete voi stati battezzati nel nome di Paolo?

Is the Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul?

14 R ingrazio Dio che non ho battezzato alcuno di voi, ad eccezione di Crispo e Gaio,

¶ I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius,

15 p erché nessuno dica che siete stati battezzati nel mio nome.

lest any should say that ye were baptized into my name.

16 H o battezzato anche la famiglia di Stefana; per il resto non so se ho battezzato qualcun altro.

And I baptized also the household of Stephanas; besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.

17 C risto infatti non mi ha mandato a battezzare, ma ad evangelizzare, non però con sapienza di parola, affinché la croce di Cristo non sia resa vana.

¶ For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.

18 I nfatti il messaggio della croce è follia per quelli che periscono, ma per noi che siamo salvati è potenza di Dio.

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those that perish, but unto us who are saved, it is the power of God.

19 S ta scritto infatti: «Io farò perire la sapienza dei savi e annullerò l'intelligenza degli intelligenti».

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

20 D ov'è il savio? Dov'è lo scriba? Dov'è il disputatore di questa età? Non ha forse Dio resa stolta la sapienza di questo mondo?

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the philosopher of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 I nfatti, poiché nella sapienza di Dio il mondo non ha conosciuto Dio per mezzo della propria sapienza, è piaciuto a Dio di salvare quelli che credono mediante la follia della predicazione

For in the wisdom of God, since the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe.

22 p oiché i Giudei chiedono un segno e i Greci cercano sapienza,

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom,

23 m a noi predichiamo Cristo crocifisso, che è scandalo per i Giudei e follia per i Greci;

but we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock and unto the Gentiles foolishness;

24 m a a quelli che sono chiamati, sia Giudei che Greci, noi predichiamo Cristo, potenza di Dio e sapienza di Dio;

but unto those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 p oiché la follia di Dio è piú savia degli uomini e la debolezza di Dio piú forte degli uomini.

For that which is foolish of God is wiser than men, and that which is weak of God is stronger than men.

26 R iguardate infatti la vostra vocazione, fratelli, poiché non ci sono tra di voi molti savi secondo la carne, non molti potenti, non molti nobili,

For look upon your vocation, brothers, that ye are not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble,

27 m a Dio ha scelto le cose stolte del mondo per svergognare le savie; e Dio ha scelto le cose deboli del mondo per svergognare le forti;

but rather God has chosen that which is the foolishness of the world to confound the wise, and God has chosen that which is the weakness of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;

28 e Dio ha scelto le cose ignobili del mondo e le cose spregevoli e le cose che non sono per ridurre al niente quelle che sono,

and that which is vile of the world and that which is despised God has chosen, and things which are not, to bring to nought the things that are,

29 a ffinché nessuna carne si glori alla sua presenza.

that no flesh should glory in his presence.

30 O ra grazie a lui voi siete in Cristo Gesú, il quale da Dio è stato fatto per noi sapienza, giustizia, santificazione e redenzione,

But of him ye are reborn in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption,

31 a ffinché, come sta scritto: «Chi si gloria, si glori nel Signore»

that, according as it is written, He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.
