1 A llora Salomone radunò alla sua presenza a Gerusalemme gli anziani d'Israele e tutti i capi delle tribú, i principi delle famiglie dei figli d'Israele per portare su l'arca del patto dell'Eterno dalla città di Davide, cioè da Sion.

¶ Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the families of the sons of Israel, unto King Solomon in Jerusalem that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

2 T utti gli uomini d'Israele si radunarono presso il re Salomone per la festa nel mese di Ethanim, che è il settimo mese.

And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto King Solomon in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month, on the solemn day.

3 C osí tutti gli anziani d'Israele vennero e i sacerdoti presero l'arca;

And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.

4 e portarono su l'arca dell'Eterno, la tenda di convegno e tutti gli utensili sacri che erano nella tenda. I sacerdoti e i Leviti trasportarono queste cose.

And they brought up the ark of the LORD and the tabernacle of the testimony and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, which the priests and the Levites carried.

5 I l re Salomone e tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, radunata attorno a lui, si raccolsero con lui davanti all'arca e immolarono una tale quantità di pecore e buoi che non si potevano né contare né calcolare.

And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel that were assembled unto him were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be counted nor numbered for multitude.

6 P oi i sacerdoti portarono l'arca del patto dell'Eterno al suo posto, nel santuario del tempio, nel luogo santissimo sotto le ali dei cherubini.

And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, in the holy of holies, under the wings of the cherubim.

7 I cherubini infatti stendevano le loro ali sopra il luogo dell'arca e coprivano dall'alto l'arca e le sue stanghe.

For the cherubim had their wings extended over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its staves from above.

8 L e stanghe erano cosí lunghe che le loro estremità si vedevano dal luogo santo, davanti al santuario, ma non si vedevano dal di fuori. Esse sono rimaste là fino al giorno d'oggi.

And they drew out the staves so that the ends of the staves could be seen out in the holy place in front of the oracle, but they could not be seen from outside, and thus they remained until today.

9 N ell'arca non c'era nient'altro che le due tavole di pietra che Mosè vi aveva deposto al monte Horeb, quando l'Eterno fece un patto con i figli d'Israele, dopo che questi erano usciti dal paese d'Egitto.

There was nothing in the ark except the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD cut a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

10 O r avvenne che, mentre i sacerdoti uscivano dal luogo santo, la nuvola riempí la casa dell'Eterno,

And when the priests came out of the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the LORD.

11 e i sacerdoti non poterono rimanere a servire a motivo della nuvola, perché la gloria dell'Eterno riempiva la casa dell'Eterno.

And the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

12 A llora Salomone disse: «L'Eterno ha dichiarato che abiterebbe nella densa nuvola,

¶ Then Solomon said, The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

13 I o ho costruito per te una casa sontuosa, un luogo nel quale tu dimorerai per sempre».

I have surely built thee a house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.

14 P oi il re si voltò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, mentre tutta l'assemblea d'Israele stava in piedi.

And the king turned his face about and blessed all the congregation of Israel, and all the congregation of Israel were standing.

15 E disse: «Benedetto sia l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, che ha promesso con la sua propria bocca a mio padre Davide, e l'ha adempiuto con la sua potenza, dicendo:

And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth unto David my father, and with his hand has fulfilled it, saying,

16 " Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo Israele dall'Egitto, io non ho scelto alcuna città fra tutte le tribú d'Israele, per edificare una casa, dove il mio nome dimorasse, ma ho scelto Davide perché regnasse sul mio popolo d'Israele".

Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there, but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

17 O r Davide mio padre aveva in cuore di costruire una casa al nome dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele;

And it was in the heart of David, my father, to build a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

18 m a l'Eterno disse a Davide mio padre: "Tu avevi in cuore di costruire una casa al mio nome, e hai fatto bene ad avere questo in cuore;

But the LORD said unto David, my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart;

19 m a non sarai tu che costruirai il tempio, sarà invece il figlio che uscirà dai tuoi lombi; sarà lui che costruirà il tempio al mio nome.

nevertheless, thou shalt not build the house, but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build a house unto my name.

20 C osí l'Eterno ha adempiuto la parola che aveva pronunciato, e io ho preso il posto di Davide mio padre e mi sono seduto sul trono d'Israele, come l'Eterno aveva detto, e ho costruito il tempio al nome dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele.

And the LORD has established his word that he spoke, and I have risen up in the place of David, my father, and sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD had said and have built a house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

21 L à ho preparato un posto per l'arca in cui si trova il patto dell'Eterno che egli fece con i nostri padri, quando li fece uscire dal paese d'Egitto».

And I have set there a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

22 P oi Salomone si pose davanti all'altare dell'Eterno di fronte a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo

¶ And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and extending his hands toward heaven,

23 e disse: «O Eterno, DIO d'Israele, non c'è alcun DIO simile a te né lassú nel cielo né quaggiú in terra! Tu mantieni il patto e usi misericordia con i tuoi servi che camminano davanti a te con tutto il loro cuore.

he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in the heavens above or on earth beneath, who keeps the covenant and mercy with thy slaves that walk before thee with all their heart,

24 T u hai mantenuto nei confronti del tuo servo Davide, mio padre, ciò che gli avevi promesso; sí, oggi hai compiuto con la tua mano ciò che avevi promesso con la tua bocca.

who hast kept unto thy slave David, my father, what thou didst declare unto him; thou didst say it with thy mouth and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as we see this day.

25 O ra dunque, o Eterno, DIO d'Israele, mantieni al tuo servo Davide mio padre ciò che gli hai promesso, dicendo: "A te non mancherà mai alcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d'Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sulla loro condotta e camminino davanti a me come hai camminato tu".

Therefore, now, LORD God of Israel, fulfill unto thy slave David, my father, what thou didst promise him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if thy sons keep their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

26 O ra dunque ti prego, o DIO d'Israele, si adempia la parola che hai detto al tuo servo Davide mio padre!

And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be made firm, which thou didst speak unto thy slave David, my father.

27 M a è proprio vero che DIO abita sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti; tanto meno questo tempio che io ho costruito!

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heavens, the heavens of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have built?

28 N ondimeno, o Eterno, DIO mio, presta attenzione alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza oggi davanti a te.

Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy slave and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy slave prays before thee today,

29 I tuoi occhi siano rivolti notte e giorno verso questo tempio, verso il luogo di cui hai detto: "Lí sarà il mio nome", per ascoltare la preghiera che il tuo servo farà rivolto a questo luogo!.

that thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there that thou may hearken unto the prayer which thy slave shall make in this place.

30 A scolta la supplica del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno rivolti a questo luogo. Ascolta dal luogo della dimora nei cieli; ascolta e perdona.

Therefore, thou shalt hearken unto the supplication of thy slave and of thy people Israel when they shall pray in this place and hear in thy dwelling place, from the heavens; please hear and forgive.

31 S e uno pecca contro il suo prossimo e, perché costretto a giurare, viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questo tempio,

When anyone shall have sinned against his neighbour, and an oath is laid upon him to cause him to swear and the oath comes before thy altar in this house,

32 t u ascolta dal cielo, intervieni e giudica i tuoi servi; condanna il colpevole facendo ricadere sul suo capo la sua condotta e dichiara giusto l'innocente col rendergli secondo la sua giustizia.

thou shalt hear from heaven and do and judge thy slaves, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

33 Q uando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto davanti al nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, se torna a te e loda il tuo nome, se ti prega e ti supplica in questo tempio,

When thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy because they have sinned against thee and shall turn again to thee and confess thy name and pray and make supplication with humility unto thee in this house,

34 t u ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele, e fallo tornare nel paese che hai dato ai suoi padri.

then thou shalt hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of thy people Israel and bring them again unto the land which thou didst give unto their fathers.

35 Q uando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se lodano il tuo nome e si convertono dal loro peccato perché li hai afflitti,

When heaven is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against thee, if they pray in this place and confess thy name and turn from their sin when thou hast afflicted them,

36 t u ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la buona strada per la quale devono camminare, e manda la pioggia sulla terra che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo.

then thou shalt hear in the heavens and forgive the sin of thy slaves and of thy people Israel, teaching them the good way in which they should walk and shalt give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

37 Q uando nel paese vi sarà carestia o peste, ruggine o carbonchio, invasione di locuste o di bruchi, quando il nemico assedierà il tuo popolo nel paese delle sue città, quando scoppierà una calamità o un'epidemia qualsiasi,

When there is famine in the land or pestilence or blasting or mildew or locusts or caterpillars, if their enemy besieges them in the land of their gates, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,

38 o gni preghiera, ogni supplica che ti sarà rivolta da qualsiasi individuo o dall'intero tuo popolo Israele, quando ciascuno ha riconosciuto la piaga del proprio cuore e ha steso le mani verso questo tempio,

every prayer and every supplication made by any man or by all thy people Israel, when anyone knows the plague of his own heart and spreads forth his hands toward this house,

39 t u ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, e perdona, intervieni e rendi a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno; (tu solo infatti conosci il cuore di tutti i figli degli uomini),

then thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and forgive and do and give to each one according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the sons of men),

40 a ffinché essi ti temano per tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che hai dato ai nostri padri.

that they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou didst give unto our fathers.

41 A nche lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a motivo del tuo nome,

Likewise concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but comes out of a far country for thy name’s sake

42 ( perchè si sentirà parlare del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso) quando verrà a pregarti rivolto a questo tempio,

(for they shall have heard of thy great name and of thy strong hand and of thy stretched out arm), when he shall come to pray in this house,

43 t u ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, e concedi allo straniero tutto ciò che ti domanda, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questo tempio che io ho costruito.

thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, and do according to all that for which the stranger shall have called unto thee, that all peoples of the earth may know thy name and fear thee as do thy people Israel and that they may know that thy name is invoked upon this house, which I have built.

44 Q uando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro il suo nemico, seguendo la via per cui l'hai mandato, se pregano l'Eterno rivolti verso la città da te scelta e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,

If thy people go out to battle against their enemies by the way which thou shalt send them and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen and toward the house that I have built for thy name,

45 a scolta dal cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e sostieni la loro causa.

thou shalt hear in the heavens their prayer and their supplication and do their judgment.

46 Q uando peccheranno contro di te (perché non c'è alcun uomo che non pecchi) e tu, adirato contro di loro, li abbandonerai in balìa del nemico e saranno deportati nel paese del nemico lontano o vicino,

If they have sinned against thee (for there is no man that does not sin) and thou should be angry with them and deliver them to the enemy so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near,

47 s e nel paese in cui sono stati deportati rientrano in sé, se tornano a te e ti supplicano nel paese di quelli che li hanno portati in prigionia e dicono: "Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo fatto del male",

and they return unto their heart in the land where they were carried captives and return and make supplication unto thee in the land of those that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned and have done iniquity, we have committed wickedness;

48 s e tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese dei loro nemici che li hanno deportati e ti pregano rivolti al loro paese che tu hai dato ai loro padri, alla città che tu hai scelto e al tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome,

and so convert themselves unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies, who led them away captive and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou didst give unto their fathers, toward the city which thou hast chosen and the house which I have built for thy name,

49 t u ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e sostieni la loro causa,

thou shalt hear in the heavens, in the habitation of thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplication and do what is right unto them

50 e perdona al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te tutte le trasgressioni che ha commesso contro di te e fa' che trovino compassione presso coloro che li hanno deportati, affinché questi usino misericordia con loro,

and forgive thy people that have sinned against thee and all their rebellions by which they have rebelled against thee and cause those who carried them captive to have mercy on them,

51 ( perché essi sono il tuo popolo e la tua eredità, coloro che hai fatto uscire dall'Egitto, da una fornace di ferro).

for they are thy people and thy inheritance, which thou didst bring forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the iron furnace.

52 S iano aperti i tuoi occhi alla supplica del tuo servo e alla supplica del tuo popolo Israele, per esaudirli in tutto ciò che ti chiedono,

Let thine eyes be open unto the supplication of thy slave and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.

53 p erché tu li hai appartati da tutti i popoli della terra per essere la tua eredità, secondo quanto hai dichiarato per mezzo del tuo servo Mosè, quando facesti uscire dall'Egitto i nostri padri, o Signore, o Eterno!».

For thou didst separate them from among all the peoples of the earth, to be thy inheritance, as thou didst speak by the hand of Moses, thy slave, when thou didst bring our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.

54 Q uando Salomone ebbe terminato di rivolgere all'Eterno tutta questa preghiera e supplica, si alzò davanti all'altare dell'Eterno dove era inginocchiato con le mani tese verso il cielo.

¶ And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands extended toward heaven.

55 P oi si alzò e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele ad alta voce, dicendo:

And he stood and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying,

56 « Benedetto sia l'Eterno, che ha dato riposo al suo popolo Israele, secondo tutto ciò che ha promesso; non una sola parola è venuta meno di tutte le belle promesse da lui fatte per mezzo del suo servo Mosè.

Blessed be the LORD that has given rest unto his people Israel according to all that he had said; not one word has failed of all his good word, which he spoke by the hand of Moses, his slave.

57 L 'Eterno, il nostro DIO, sia con noi come è stato con i nostri padri; non ci lasci e non ci abbandoni,

The LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers; let him not leave us nor forsake us

58 m a volga i nostri cuori verso di lui, affinché camminiamo in tutte le sue vie e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti, i suoi statuti e i suoi decreti che ha prescritto ai nostri padri.

that he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his rights, which he commanded our fathers.

59 P ossano queste mie parole, che ho rivolto in supplicazione all'Eterno, rimanere vicine all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, giorno e notte, perché sostenga la causa del suo servo e la causa del suo popolo, secondo il bisogno di ogni giorno,

And let these my words, with which I have made supplication before the LORD, be near unto the LORD our God day and night that he maintain the judgment of his slave and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require;

60 a ffinché tutti i popoli della terra riconoscano che l'Eterno è DIO e non ve n'è alcun altro.

that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is no other.

61 S ia dunque il vostro cuore dato interamente all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, per seguire i suoi statuti e osservare i suoi comandamenti, come fate oggi!».

Let your heart, therefore, be perfect with the LORD our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.

62 P oi il re e tutto Israele con lui offrirono sacrifici davanti all'Eterno.

¶ Then the king and all Israel with him, offered sacrifices before the LORD.

63 S alomone immolò come sacrificio di ringraziamento, che egli offrí all'Eterno, ventiduemila buoi e centoventimila pecore. Cosí il re e tutti i figli d'Israele dedicarono la casa dell'Eterno.

And Solomon offered sacrifices of peace, which he offered unto the LORD, which were twenty-two thousand oxen and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the sons of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

64 I n quel giorno il re consacrò la parte centrale del cortile, che è davanti alla casa dell'Eterno; là infatti egli offrí gli olocausti, le oblazioni di cibo e il grasso dei sacrifici di ringraziamento, perché l'altare di bronzo, che è davanti all'Eterno, era troppo piccolo per contenere gli olocausti, le oblazioni di cibo e il grasso dei sacrifici di ringraziamento.

That same day the king sanctified the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD, for there he offered the burnt offerings and the presents and the fat of the peace offerings because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too small to receive the burnt offerings and the presents and the fat of the peace offerings.

65 I n quel tempo Salomone celebrò una festa davanti all'Eterno, il nostro DIO, e tutto Israele con lui. A lui si uní una grande assemblea di gente, venuta dai dintorni di Hamath fino al torrente d'Egitto, per sette giorni e per altri sette giorni, in tutto quattordici giorni.

And at that time Solomon held a feast and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, for seven days and another seven days, even fourteen days.

66 L 'ottavo giorno congedò il popolo, e quelli convenuti benedirono il re e tornarono alle loro tende allegri e col cuore contento per tutto il bene che l'Eterno aveva fatto al suo servo Davide e a Israele, suo popolo.

On the eighth day he sent the people away, and they, blessing the king, went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done unto David, his slave, and unto Israel his people.
