1 « Guai ai pastori che distruggono e disperdono il gregge del mio pascolo», dice l'Eterno.

¶ Woe be unto the pastors that waste and scatter the sheep of my pasture! said the LORD.

2 P erciò cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, contro i pastori che pascolano il mio popolo: «Voi avete disperso le mie pecore, le avete scacciate e non ne avete avuto cura; ecco, io vi punirò per la malvagità delle vostre azioni», dice l'Eterno.

Therefore thus hath the LORD God of Israel said unto the pastors that feed my people: Ye have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not visited them; behold, I visit upon you the evil of your doings, said the LORD.

3 « Ma radunerò il resto delle mie pecore da tutti i paesi dove le ho disperse e le ricondurrò ai loro pascoli, e saranno feconde e si moltiplicheranno.

And I will gather the remnant of my sheep out of all the lands where I have driven them and will cause them to return to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.

4 C ostituirò su di esse pastori che le pascoleranno, e non avranno piú paura né spavento; non ne mancherà neppure una», dice l'Eterno.

And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them; and they shall fear no more nor be dismayed neither shall they be lacking, said the LORD.

5 « Ecco, i giorni vengono», dice l'Eterno «nei quali susciterò a Davide un germoglio giusto, che regnerà da re, prospererà, ed eserciterà il giudizio e la giustizia ne paese.

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.

6 N ei suoi giorni Giuda sarà salvato e Israele dimorerà al sicuro. Questo sarà il nome con cui sarà chiamato: "L'Eterno nostra giustizia"

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this shall be his name by which they shall call him, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

7 P erciò ecco, i giorni vengono». dice l'Eterno, «nei quali non si dirà piú: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire i figli d'Israele dal paese d'Egitto",

Therefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, and they shall no longer say, The LORD lives, who brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

8 m a: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire e ha ricondotto la progenie della casa d'Israele dal paese del nord e da tutti i paesi dove io li avevo dispersi" ed essi dimoreranno nel loro paese».

but, The LORD lives, who caused the seed of the house of Israel to come up and out of the land of the north wind, and from all the lands where I had driven them, and they shall dwell in their own land.

9 I l mio cuore è rotto dentro di me a motivo dei profeti, tutte le mie ossa tremano. Sono come un ubriaco, come un uomo sopraffatto dal vino, a causa dell'Eterno e a causa delle sue parole sante.

¶ My heart is broken within me because of the prophets, all my bones shake; I was like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine has overcome, before the LORD, and before the words of his holiness.

10 P oiché il paese è pieno di adulteri, a causa della maledizione il paese è in lutto, i pascoli del deserto sono inariditi. La loro corsa è perversa e la loro forza non è retta.

For the land is full of adulterers; for because of the oath the land is deserted; the booths of the wilderness are dried up, and their course was evil, and their force was not right.

11 « Tanto il sacerdote che il profeta sono corrotti; sí, ho trovato la loro malvagità nella mia stessa casa». dice l'Eterno.

For both prophet and priest are feigned; even in my house I have found their wickedness, said the LORD.

12 « Perciò la loro strada sarà per loro come sentieri sdrucciolevoli; essi saranno sospinti nelle tenebre e in esse cadranno, perché farò venire su di loro la calamità nell'anno della loro punizione», dice l'Eterno.

Therefore their way shall be unto them as slippery ways in the darkness; they shall be driven on and fall therein; for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

13 « Tra i profeti di Samaria, ho visto stupidità: profetizzavano in nome di Baal, e traviavano il mio popolo Israele.

And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal and caused my people Israel to err.

14 A nche tra i profeti di Gerusalemme ho visto cose nefande: commettono adulteri, camminano con falsità, rafforzano le mani dei malfattori, e cosí nessuno si converte dalla sua malvagità. Per me sono tutti come Sodoma e i suoi abitanti come Gomorra».

I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: they committed adultery and walked by lies; they strengthened also the hands of evildoers, that no none is converted from his malice; they are all of them unto me as Sodom and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.

15 P erciò cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti riguardo ai profeti: «Ecco io li nutrirò di assenzio e farò loro bere acqua avvelenata, perché dai profeti di Gerusalemme l'empietà si è sparsa per tutto il paese».

Therefore, thus hath the LORD of the hosts said against those prophets: Behold, I will cause them to eat wormwood and make them drink the waters of gall, for from the prophets of Jerusalem is hypocrisy gone forth upon all the land.

16 C osí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: «Non ascoltate le parole dei profeti che vi profetizzano. Essi vi fanno diventare spregevoli; vi espongono le visioni del loro cuore e non ciò che procede dalla bocca dell'Eterno.

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

17 D icono del continuo a quelli che mi disprezzano: "L'Eterno ha detto: Avrete pace" e a tutti quelli che camminano nella caparbietà del proprio cuore: "Nessun male verrà su di voi"

They say boldly unto those that stir me to anger, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto anyone that walks after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

18 M a chi ha assistito al consiglio dell'Eterno? Chi ha visto, chi ha udito la sua parola? Chi ha prestato attenzione alla sua parola e l'ha udita?

For who has stood in the secret of the LORD and has seen and heard his word? Who has payed attention to his word and heard it?

19 E cco, la tempesta dell'Eterno si scatena furiosamente, una tempesta spaventevole si abbatterà sul capo degli empi.

Behold, that the whirlwind of the LORD shall go forth with fury, and the whirlwind which is ready shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

20 L 'ira dell'Eterno non si acqueterà finché non abbia eseguito e compiuto i disegni del suo cuore; negli ultimi giorni lo capirete perfettamente.

The anger of the LORD shall not return until he has executed and until he has performed the thoughts of his heart: in the last of the days ye shall understand it with understanding.

21 I o non ho mandato quei profeti; ma essi sono corsi; non ho parlato loro ma essi hanno profetizzato.

I did not send those prophets, yet they ran; I did not speak to them, yet they prophesied.

22 M a se avessero assistito al mio consiglio, allora avrebbero fatto udire le mie parole al mio popolo, e cosí li avrebbero fatti allontanare dalla loro cattiva via e dalla malvagità delle loro azioni.

But if they had stood in my secret, they would also have caused my people to hear my words, and they would have caused them to return from their evil way and from the evil of their doings.

23 S ono io soltanto un DIO da vicino», dice l'Eterno «e non anche un DIO da lontano?

Am I a God of the near only, said the LORD, and not a God of the far?

24 P otrebbe uno nascondersi nei nascondigli senza che io lo veda?», dice l'Eterno. «Non riempio io il cielo e la terra?», dice l'Eterno.

Can any hide himself in hiding places that I shall not see him? said the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? said the LORD.

25 « Ho udito ciò che dicono i profeti che profetizzano menzogne nel mio nome, dicendo: "Ho avuto un sogno, ho avuto un sogno!".

I have heard what those prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.

26 F ino a quando durerà questo nel cuore di questi profeti che profetizzano menzogne e profetizzano l'inganno del loro cuore?

How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies and that prophesy the deceit of their own heart?

27 E ssi pensano di far dimenticare il mio nome al mio popolo con i loro sogni che si raccontano l'un l'altro, come i loro padri dimenticarono il mio nome per Baal,

Do they not think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which each one tells his neighbour, so much that their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal?

28 I l profeta che ha avuto un sogno racconti il sogno, ma chi ha la mia parola riferisca la mia parola fedelmente. Che ha da fare la paglia col frumento?», dice l'Eterno.

The prophet with whom the dream came, let him tell the dream; and he with whom my word came, let him speak my true word. What is the chaff to the wheat? said the LORD.

29 « La mia parola non è come il fuoco?», dice l'Eterno, «e come un martello che spezza il sasso?

Is not my word like as a fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

30 P erciò ecco», dice l'Eterno, «io sono contro i profeti che rubano gli uni agli altri le mie parole.

Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words each one from his neighbour.

31 E cco». dice l'Eterno, «io sono contro i profeti che usano la loro lingua e dicono: Egli dice

Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that sweeten their tongues and say, He said.

32 E cco, io sono contro quelli che profetizzano sogni falsi», dice l'Eterno, «e li raccontano e traviano il mio popolo con le loro menzogne e con le loro millanterie, benché io non li abbia mandati né abbia dato loro alcun ordine; perciò non saranno di alcuna utilità a questo popolo», dice l'Eterno.

Behold, I am against those that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and did tell them, and caused my people to err by their lies, and by their flattery; yet I did not send them, nor command them; and they did not profit this people at all, said the LORD.

33 « Se pertanto questo popolo o un profeta o un sacerdote ti domanderà, dicendo: "Qual'è l'oracolo dell'Eterno?" tu risponderai loro: Quale oracolo? Io vi rigetterò», dice l'Eterno.

¶ And when this people or the prophet or the priest shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will forsake you, said the LORD.

34 « Quanto poi al profeta, al sacerdote o al popolo che dirà: "Oracolo dell'Eterno io punirò quel tale e la sua casa.

And as for the prophet and the priest and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will visit upon that man and upon his house.

35 C osí direte, ognuno al proprio vicino e ognuno al proprio fratello: Che cosa ha risposto l'Eterno? e Che cosa ha detto l'Eterno?

Thus shall ye say each one to his neighbour and each one to his brother, What has the LORD answered? and, What has the LORD spoken?

36 M a l'oracolo dell'Eterno non lo menzionerete piú, perché la parola di ciascuno sarà il suo oracolo, perché avete distorto le parole del DIO vivente l'Eterno degli eserciti, il nostro DIO.

And never again shall it come to your memory to say, The burden of the LORD; for every man’s word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of the hosts, our God.

37 C osí dirai al profeta: "Che cosa ti ha risposto l'Eterno?" e "Che cosa ha detto l'Eterno?"

Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What has the LORD answered thee? and, What has the LORD spoken?

38 M a se dite ancora: "Oracolo dell'Eterno" allora cosí dice l'Eterno: Poiché dite questa parola: "Oracolo dell'Eterno" anche se io vi avevo mandato a dire: Non dite piú: "Oracolo dell'Eterno"

But if ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus hath the LORD said: Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;

39 e cco, io mi dimenticherò interamente di voi e vi getterò lontano dalla mia faccia, voi e la città che avevo dato a voi e ai vostri padri,

therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will uproot you from my presence and the city that I gave you and your fathers:

40 e vi coprirò di un obbrobrio eterno e di una eterna vergogna, che non saranno mai dimenticati».

and I will place an everlasting reproach upon you, and eternal shame, which shall never be forgotten.
