1 « Ama dunque l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, e osserva sempre le sue prescrizioni, i suoi statuti, i suoi decreti e i suoi comandamenti.

¶ Therefore, thou shalt love the LORD thy God and keep his charge and his statutes and his rights and his commandments, always.

2 R iconoscete oggi (poiché non parlo ai vostri figli che non hanno conosciuto né hanno visto la disciplina dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO) la sua grandezza, la sua mano potente e il suo braccio steso,

And know ye this day; for I speak not with your children who have not known and who have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

3 i suoi segni e le sue opere che fece in mezzo all'Egitto contro il Faraone, re d'Egitto, e contro il suo paese,

and his miracles and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh, the king of Egypt and unto all his land,

4 c iò che fece all'esercito d'Egitto, ai suoi cavalli e ai suoi carri, riversando su di loro le acque del Mar Rosso mentre essi vi inseguivano, e come l'Eterno li distrusse per sempre;

and what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses and to their chariots, how he made the water of the Red sea to overflow them as they pursued after you and how the LORD has destroyed them unto this day,

5 c iò che fece per voi nel deserto, fino al vostro arrivo in questo luogo;

and what he did with you in the wilderness until ye came into this place,

6 e ciò che fece a Dathan e Abiram, figli di Eliab, figlio di Ruben; come la terra spalancò la sua bocca e li inghiotti con le loro famiglie, le loro tende ed ogni cosa vivente che li seguiva, in mezzo a tutto Israele.

and what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben: how the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up and their households and their tents and all the substance that was in their possession in the midst of all Israel;

7 M a i vostri occhi hanno visto le grandi cose che l'Eterno ha fatto.

but your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.

8 O sservate dunque tutti i comandamenti che oggi vi prescrivo, affinché siate forti e possiate occupare il paese di cui state per entrare in possesso

¶ Keep, therefore, all the commandments which I command you this day that ye may be strong and enter in and inherit the land, into which ye go to inherit it

9 e affinché prolunghiate i vostri giorni nel paese che l'Eterno giurò di dare ai vostri padri e alla loro discendenza, paese dove scorre latte e miele.

and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD swore unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that flows with milk and honey.

10 P oiché il paese che stai per entrare ad occupare non é come il paese d'Egitto da cui siete usciti, dove seminavi la tua semente e poi la irrigavi con il tuo piede come per un orto di erbaggi;

For the land, into which thou goest to inherit it, is not as the land of Egypt, from which ye came out, where thou didst sow thy seed and water it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs.

11 m a il paese che state per entrare ad occupare è un paese di monti e di valli, che beve l'acqua della pioggia che viene dal cielo:

The land, into which ye go to inherit it, is a land of mountains and valleys and drinks water of the rain of heaven,

12 u n paese del quale l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ha cura e sul quale stanno del continuo gli occhi dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, dall'inizio dell'anno fino alla fine.

a land which the LORD thy God procures; the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.

13 O r se ubbidirete diligentemente ai miei comandamenti che oggi vi prescrivo, amando l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, e servendolo con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta la vostra anima,

And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day: to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul

14 a vverrà che io darò al vostro paese la pioggia a suo tempo, la prima pioggia e l'ultima pioggia, perché tu possa raccogliere il tuo grano, il tuo vino e il tuo olio;

that I will give you the rain of your land in its due season, the early rain and the latter rain, and thou shalt gather in thy grain and thy wine and thine oil.

15 e farò pure crescere dell'erba nei tuoi campi per il tuo bestiame, e tu mangerai e sarai saziato.

And I will send grass in thy fields for thy beasts, and thou shalt eat and be full.

16 S tate in guardia affinché il vostro cuore non sia sedotto e non vi sviate, servendo altri dèi e prostrandovi davanti a loro;

Keep yourselves, therefore, that your heart not be deceived and ye turn aside and serve other gods and worship them;

17 p oiché allora si accenderebbe contro di voi l'ira dell'Eterno e chiuderebbe i cieli e non vi sarebbe piú pioggia, e la terra non darebbe piú i suoi prodotti e voi presto perireste nel buon paese che l'Eterno vi dà.

and then the LORD’s wrath be kindled against you and he shut up the heavens, that there be no rain and that the land yield not her fruit, and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

18 M etterete dunque queste mie parole nel vostro cuore e nella vostra mente, le legherete come un segno alla mano e saranno come frontali fra gli occhi;

¶ Therefore, ye shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul and bind them for a sign upon your hand that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

19 l e insegnerete ai vostri figli, parlandone quando sei seduto in casa tua, quando cammini per strada, quando sei coricato e quando ti alzi;

And ye shall teach them to your children that ye may think of them sitting in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up.

20 e le scriverai sugli stipiti della tua casa e sulle tue porte,

And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house and upon thy gates

21 a ffinché i vostri giorni e i giorni dei vostri figli, nel paese che l'Eterno giurò ai vostri padri di dar loro, siano numerosi come i giorni dei cieli sopra la terra.

that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, upon the land which the LORD swore unto your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens upon the earth.

22 P oiché, se osservate diligentemente tutti questi comandamenti che io vi ordino di mettere in pratica, amando l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, camminando in tutte le sue vie e tenendovi stretti a lui,

For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, loving the LORD your God and walking in all his ways, to cleave unto him,

23 l 'Eterno scaccerà davanti a voi tutte quelle nazioni e voi v'impadronirete di nazioni piú grandi e piú potenti di voi.

then the LORD will drive out all these Gentiles from before you, and ye shall possess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

24 O gni luogo che la pianta del vostro piede calcherà, sarà vostro; i vostri confini si estenderanno dal deserto fino al Libano, e dal fiume, il fiume Eufrate, fino al mare occidentale.

Every place upon which the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours, from the wilderness and Lebanon; from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the western sea shall be your border.

25 N essuno sarà in grado di resistervi; l'Eterno, il vostro DIO come vi ha detto, spanderà la paura e il terrore di voi per tutto il paese che voi calcherete.

No one shall be able to stand before you; for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he has said unto you.

26 G uardate, io pongo oggi davanti a voi la benedizione e la maledizione.

¶ Behold, I set before you this day the blessing and the curse:

27 l a benedizione se ubbidite ai comandamenti dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO, che oggi vi prescrivo;

The blessing if ye hear the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day,

28 l a maledizione, se non ubbidite ai comandamenti dell'Eterno, il vostro Dio, e se vi allontanate dalla via che oggi vi prescrivo, per seguire altri dèi che non avete mai conosciuto.

and the curse if ye will not hear the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

29 E avverrà che quando l'Eterno, il tuo Dio, ti avrà introdotto nel paese che tu vai ad occupare, tu porrai la benedizione sul monte Gherizim e la maledizione sul monte Ebal.

And it shall come to pass when the LORD thy God has brought thee in unto the land where thou goest to inherit it that thou shalt put the blessing upon Mount Gerizim and the curse upon Mount Ebal,

30 N on sono essi al di là dal Giordano, ad ovest della strada dove il sole tramonta; nel paese dei Cananei che abitano nell'Arabah di fronte a Ghilgal, presso la quercia di Moreh?

which are on the other side of the Jordan, by the way of the west, in the land of the Canaanite, who dwells in the plain over against Gilgal, beside the plains of Moreh.

31 P oiché voi state per passare il Giordano per entrare ad occupare il paese, che l'Eterno, il vostro Dio, vi dà; voi lo possederete e vi abiterete.

For ye shall pass the Jordan to go in to inherit the land which the LORD your God gives you, and ye shall possess it and dwell therein.

32 A bbiate dunque cura di mettere in pratica tutti gli statuti e i decreti che oggi io pongo davanti a voi».

Keep yourselves, therefore, to do all the statutes and rights which I set before you this day.
