1 O ra, mentre Gesú usciva dal tempio e se ne andava, i suoi discepoli gli si accostarono per fargli osservare gli edifici del tempio.

¶ And Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and his disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.

2 M a Gesú disse loro: «Non vedete voi tutte queste cose? In verità vi dico che non resterà qui pietra su pietra che non sarà diroccata».

And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.

3 P oi, mentre egli era seduto sul monte degli Ulivi, i discepoli gli si accostarono in disparte, dicendo: «Dicci, quando avverranno queste cose? E quale sarà il segno della tua venuta e della fine dell'età presente?».

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming and of the end of the age?

4 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse loro: «Guardate che nessuno vi seduca!

¶ And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no one deceive you.

5 P oiché molti verranno nel mio nome, dicendo: "io sono il Cristo" e ne sedurranno molti.

For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ, and shall deceive many.

6 A llora sentirete parlare di guerre e di rumori di guerre; guardate di non turbarvi, perché bisogna che tutte queste cose avvengano ma non sarà ancora la fine.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars; see that ye be not troubled, for it is necessary that all these things must take place; but the end is not yet.

7 I nfatti si solleverà popolo contro popolo e regno contro regno; vi saranno carestie, pestilenze e terremoti in vari luoghi

For nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in different places.

8 M a tutte queste cose saranno soltanto l'inizio delle doglie di parto,

All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 A llora vi sottoporranno a supplizi e vi uccideranno; e sarete odiati da tutte le genti a causa del mio nome.

Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 A llora molti si scandalizzeranno, si tradiranno e si odieranno l'un l'altro.

And then shall many be offended and shall betray one another and shall hate one another.

11 E sorgeranno molti falsi profeti, e ne sedurranno molti.

And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many.

12 E perché l'iniquità sarà moltiplicata, l'amore di molti si raffredderà;

And because lawlessness shall abound, the charity of many shall wax cold.

13 m a chi avrà perseverato fino alla fine sarà salvato,

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 E questo evangelo del regno sarà predicato in tutto il mondo in testimonianza a tutte le genti, e allora verrà la fine».

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations, and then shall the end come.

15 « Quando dunque avrete visto l'abominazione della desolazione predetta dal profeta Daniele, posta nel luogo santo (chi legge intenda),

Therefore, when ye see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, which shall stand in the holy place (whosoever reads, let him understand),

16 a llora coloro che sono nella Giudea fuggano ai monti.

then let those who are in Judaea flee into the mountains;

17 C hi si trova sulla terrazza della casa, non scenda a prendere qualcosa di casa sua;

let him who is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house,

18 e chi è nei campi, non torni indietro a prendere il suo mantello.

neither let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19 M a guai alle donne incinte e a quelle che allatteranno in quei giorni!

And woe unto those that are with child and to those that give suck in those days!

20 E pregate che la vostra fuga non accada d'inverno, né di sabato

But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter neither on the sabbath day,

21 p erché allora vi sarà una tribolazione cosí grande, quale non vi fu mai dal principio del mondo fino ad ora né mai più vi sarà.

for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

22 E se quei giorni non fossero abbreviati, nessuna carne si salverebbe; ma a motivo degli eletti quei giorni saranno abbreviati.

And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

23 A llora se qualcuno vi dice: "Ecco, il Cristo è qui" oppure "è là" non gli credete.

Then if any man shall say unto you, Behold, here is the Christ, or there, believe it not.

24 P erché sorgeranno falsi cristi e falsi profeti, e faranno grandi segni e miracoli tanto da sedurre, se fosse possibile anche gli eletti.

For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets and shall show great signs and wonders in such a manner that they shall deceive, if possible, the very elect.

25 E cco, io ve l'ho predetto.

Behold, I have told you before.

26 S e dunque vi dicono: "Ecco è nel deserto" non vi andate: "Ecco è nelle stanze segrete" non ci credete.

Therefore if they say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert, go not forth; Behold, he is in the secret chambers, believe it not.

27 I nfatti, come il lampo esce da levante e sfolgora fino a ponente cosí sarà la venuta del Figlio dell'uomo.

For as the lightning that comes out of the east and shines even unto the west, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

28 P oiché dovunque sarà il carname, li si aduneranno le aquile».

For wherever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.

29 « Ora, subito dopo l'afflizione di quei giorni, il sole si oscurerà e la luna non darà il suo chiarore, le stelle cadranno dal cielo e le potenze dei cieli saranno scrollate.

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken,

30 E allora apparirà nel cielo il segno del Figlio dell'uomo; e tutte le nazioni della terra faranno cordoglio e vedranno il Figlio dell'uomo venire sulle nuvole del cielo con potenza e grande gloria.

and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with great power and glory.

31 E d egli manderà i suoi angeli con un potente suono di tromba, ed essi raccoglieranno i suoi eletti dai quattro venti, da una estremità dei cieli all'altra.

And he shall send his angels with a trumpet and a great voice, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

32 O ra imparate dal fico questa similitudine: quando ormai i suoi rami s'inteneriscono e le fronde germogliano, sapete che l'estate è vicina.

¶ Now learn a parable of the fig tree: When his branch is yet tender and puts forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh;

33 C osí anche voi, quando vedrete tutte queste cose, sappiate che egli è vicino, anzi alle porte.

so likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

34 I n verità vi dico che questa generazione non passerà, finché tutte queste cose non siano avvenute.

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass until all these things are fulfilled.

35 I l cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno».

The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

36 « Quanto poi a quel giorno e a quell'ora, nessuno li conosce, neppure gli angeli dei cieli, ma soltanto il Padre mio.

But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not even the angels of the heavens, but my Father only.

37 M a come fu ai giorni di Noè, cosí sarà anche alla venuta del Figlio dell'uomo.

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 I nfatti, come nei giorni che precedettero il diluvio, le persone mangiavano, bevevano, si sposavano ed erano date in moglie, fino a quando Noè entrò nell'arca;

For as they were in the days before the flood, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,

39 e non si avvidero di nulla, finché venne il diluvio e li portò via tutti; cosí sarà pure alla venuta del Figlio dell'uomo.

and they knew not until the flood came and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

40 A llora due saranno nel campo; uno sarà preso e l'altro lasciato.

Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left.

41 D ue donne macineranno al mulino, una sarà presa e l'altra lasciata.

Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left.

42 V egliate dunque, perché non sapete a che ora il vostro Signore verrà.

Watch therefore, for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

43 M a sappiate questo che, se il padrone di casa sapesse a che ora della notte viene il ladro, veglierebbe e non si lascerebbe forzare la casa.

But know this that if the husband of the house knew in what watch the thief would come, he would watch and would not suffer his house to be broken into.

44 P erciò anche voi siate pronti, perché nell'ora che non pensate, il Figlio dell'uomo verrà».

Therefore be ye also ready; the Son of man is to come in the hour that ye think not.

45 « Qual è dunque quel servo fedele e avveduto, che il suo padrone ha preposto ai suoi domestici, per dar loro il cibo a suo tempo?

Who then is the faithful and prudent slave, whom his lord has made ruler over his household to give them food in due season?

46 B eato quel servo che il suo padrone, quando egli tornerà, troverà facendo così.

Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.

47 I n verità vi dico che gli affiderà l'amministrazione di tutti i suoi beni.

Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.

48 M a, se quel malvagio servo dice in cuor suo: "il mio padrone tarda a venire"

But and if that evil slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming,

49 e comincia a battere i suoi conservi, e a mangiare e a bere con gli ubriaconi;

and shall begin to smite his fellowslaves and even to eat and drink with the drunken,

50 i l padrone di quel servo verrà nel giorno in cui meno se l'aspetta e nell'ora che egli non sa;

the lord of that slave shall come in a day when he does not look for him and in an hour that he is not aware of

51 l o punirà duramente e gli riserverà la sorte degli ipocriti. Lí sarà il pianto e lo stridor di denti».

and shall cut him off and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
