1 C he diremo dunque? Rimarremo nel peccato, affinché abbondi la grazia?

¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

2 N iente affatto! Noi che siamo morti al peccato, come vivremo ancora in esso?

No, in no wise. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?

3 I gnorate voi, che noi tutti che siamo stati battezzati in Gesú Cristo, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte?

Know ye not that all of us that are baptized into Jesus the Christ are baptized into his death?

4 N oi dunque siamo stati sepolti con lui per mezzo del battesimo nella morte affinché, come Cristo è risuscitato dai morti per la gloria del Padre, cosí anche noi similmente camminiamo in novità di vita.

For we are buried with him by baptism into death, that just as the Christ was raised up from the dead to the glory of the Father, likewise we also walk in newness of life.

5 P oiché, se siamo stati uniti a Cristo per una morte simile alla sua, saremo anche partecipi della sua risurrezione,

For if we have been planted together in him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection,

6 s apendo questo: che il nostro vecchio uomo è stato crocifisso con lui, perché il corpo del peccato possa essere annullato e affinché noi non serviamo piú al peccato.

knowing this: that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that we should not serve sin any longer.

7 I nfatti colui che è morto è libero dal peccato.

For he that is dead is justified from sin.

8 O ra se siamo morti con Cristo, noi crediamo pure che vivremo con lui,

Now if we die with the Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,

9 s apendo che Cristo, essendo risuscitato dai morti, non muore piú; la morte non ha piú alcun potere su di lui.

knowing that the Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over him.

10 P erché, in quanto egli è morto, è morto al peccato una volta per sempre; ma in quanto egli vive, vive a Dio.

For he that is dead died unto sin once, and he that lives, lives unto God.

11 C osí anche voi consideratevi morti al peccato, ma viventi a Dio, in Gesú Cristo, nostro Signore.

Likewise also reckon yourselves to be truly dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.

12 N on regni quindi il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, per ubbidirgli nelle sue concupiscenze.

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

13 N on prestate le vostre membra al peccato come strumenti d'iniquità, ma presentate voi stessi a Dio, come dei morti fatti viventi, e le vostre membra a Dio come strumenti di giustizia.

Neither present your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but present yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14 I nfatti il peccato non avrà piú potere su di voi, poiché non siete sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia.

So that sin shall have no dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

15 C he dunque? Peccheremo noi, perché non siamo sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia? Cosí non sia.

What then? shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? No, in no wise.

16 N on sapete voi che a chiunque vi offrite come servi per ubbidirgli, siete servi di colui al quale ubbidite, o del peccato per la morte, o dell'ubbidienza per la giustizia?

Or know ye not that to whom ye present yourselves slaves to obey, his slaves ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or of the obedience unto righteousness?

17 O ra sia ringraziato Dio, perché eravate servi del peccato, ma avete ubbidito di cuore a quell'insegnamento che vi è stato trasmesso.

Thank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;

18 E , essendo stati liberati dal peccato, siete stati fatti servi della giustizia.

and freed from sin, ye are become the slaves of righteousness.

19 I o parlo in termini umani per la debolezza della vostra carne. Perché, come un tempo prestaste le vostre membra per essere serve dell'impurità e dell'iniquità per commettere l'iniquità, così ora prestate le vostre membra per essere serve della giustizia, per la santificazione.

I speak a human thing because of the weakness of our flesh: that as ye presented your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, likewise now present your members to serve righteousness unto holiness.

20 P erché, quando eravate servi del peccato, eravate liberi in rapporto alla giustizia.

For being previously the slaves of sin, now ye have been made the slaves of righteousness.

21 Q uale frutto dunque avevate allora dalle cose delle quali ora vi vergognate? Poiché la loro fine è la morte.

What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

22 O ra invece, essendo stati liberati dal peccato e fatti servi di Dio, voi avete per vostro frutto la santificazione e per fine la vita eterna.

But now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life.

23 I nfatti il salario del peccato è la morte, ma il dono di Dio è la vita eterna in Cristo Gesú, nostro Signore.

For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
