1 I l deserto e la terra arida si rallegreranno, la solitudine gioirà e fiorirà come la rosa

¶ The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the lily.

2 f iorirà abbondantemente e gioirà con giubilo e grida d'allegrezza. Le sarà data la gloria del Libano, la magnificenza del Karmel e di Sharon. Essi vedranno la gloria dell'Eterno, la magnificenza del nostro DIO.

It shall blossom abundantly and shall also praise and sing for joy; the honour of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the beauty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD and the beauty of our God.

3 F ortificate le mani infiacchite, rendete ferme le ginocchia vacillanti!

Comfort ye the tired hands and strengthen the knees that tremble.

4 D ite a quelli che hanno il cuore smarrito: «Siate forti, non temete!». Ecco il vostro DIO verrà con la vendetta e la retribuzione di DIO; verrà egli stesso a salvarvi.

Say to those that are of a fearful heart, Be comforted, fear not; behold, your God comes with vengeance, with recompense; God himself will come and save you.

5 A llora si apriranno gli occhi dei ciechi e saranno sturate le orecchie dei sordi;

¶ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6 a llora lo zoppo salterà come un cervo e la lingua del muto griderà di gioia, perché sgorgheranno acque nel deserto e torrenti nella solitudine.

Then the lame one shall leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall praise; for waters shall be dug in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.

7 I l luogo arido diventerà uno stagno e la terra assetata sorgenti d'acqua, nei luoghi dove si sdraiavano gli sciacalli ci sarà erba con canne e giunchi.

The parched ground shall become a pool and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 L à vi sarà una strada maestra, una via che sarà chiamata via santa nessun impuro vi passerà; essa sarà soltanto per quelli che la seguono; anche gli insensati non potranno smarrirvisi.

And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called The Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; and for those in it there shall be someone to go with them, in such a manner that the foolish shall not err therein.

9 N on vi sarà piú il leone, né alcuna bestia feroce vi salirà o vi apparirà, ma vi cammineranno i redenti.

No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, nor shall any be found there so that the redeemed can walk there:

10 I riscattati dall'Eterno torneranno, verranno a Sion con grida di gioia e un'allegrezza eterna coronerà il loro capo; otterranno gioia e letizia, e il dolore e il gemito fuggiranno.

And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with songs; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall retain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
