1 « Canto dei pellegrinaggi.» Molto mi hanno oppresso fin dalla mia giovinezza, dica pure Israele:

¶ Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

2 « Molto mi hanno oppresso fin dalla mia giovinezza, ma non mi hanno potuto vincere.

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 G li aratori hanno arato sul mio dorso, vi hanno tracciato i loro lunghi solchi».

The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows.

4 L 'Eterno è giusto; egli ha reciso le funi degli empi.

The LORD is righteous; he has cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 S iano tutti confusi e voltino le spalle coloro che odiano Sion!

¶ All those that hate Zion shall all be confounded and turned back.

6 S iano come l'erba dei tetti, che si secca prima di crescere;

They shall be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers before it grows up,

7 n on ne riempie la mano il mietitore, né le braccia chi lega i covoni;

with which the reaper does not fill his hand nor he that binds sheaves his bosom.

8 e i passanti non dicono: «La benedizione dell'Eterno sia su di voi; noi vi benediciamo nel nome dell'Eterno».

Neither did those who go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.
