1 O r avvenne che, mentre egli si trovava sulla riva del lago di Gennesaret e la folla gli si stringeva attorno per ascoltare la parola di Dio,

¶ And it came to pass that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret

2 v ide due barche ormeggiate alla riva del lago, dalle quali erano scesi i pescatori e lavavano le reti.

and saw two ships that were by the shore of the lake, but the fishermen were gone out of them and were washing their nets.

3 A llora salí su una delle barche, che era di Simone, e lo pregò di scostarsi un poco da terra. Postosi a sedere, ammaestrava le folle dalla barca.

And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people out of the ship.

4 E , quando ebbe finito di parlare, disse a Simone: «Prendi il largo, e calate le vostre reti per pescare».

Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.

5 E Simone, rispondendo, gli disse: «Maestro, ci siamo affaticati tutta la notte e non abbiamo preso nulla; però, alla tua parola, calerò la rete».

And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing; nevertheless, at thy word I will let down the net.

6 E , fatto ciò, presero una tale quantità di pesci che la rete si rompeva.

And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes, and their net was breaking.

7 A llora fecero cenno ai loro compagni, che erano nell'altra barca, perché venissero ad aiutarli. Ed essi vennero e riempirono tutt'e due le barche, tanto che stavano affondando.

And they beckoned unto their partners, who were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.

8 V edendo questo, Simon Pietro si gettò ai piedi di Gesú, dicendo: «Signore allontanati da me perché sono un uomo peccatore».

When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down on his knees before Jesus, saying, Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.

9 I nfatti Pietro e tutti quelli che erano con lui furono presi da grande stupore, per la quantità di pesci che avevano preso.

For he was overcome with fear, and all that were with him, at the catch of the fishes which they had taken;

10 L o stesso avvenne pure a Giacomo e a Giovanni, figli di Zebedeo, che erano compagni di Simone. Allora Gesú disse a Simone: «Non temere; da ora in avanti tu sarai pescatore di uomini vivi».

and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from now on thou shalt catch men.

11 E ssi quindi, tirate in secco le barche, lasciarono ogni cosa e lo seguirono.

And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all and followed him.

12 O r avvenne che, mentre egli si trovava in una di quelle città, ecco un uomo tutto coperto di lebbra che, veduto Gesú, si prostrò con la faccia a terra e lo pregò, dicendo: «Signore, se tu vuoi, tu puoi mondarmi».

¶ And it came to pass when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy who, seeing Jesus, fell on his face and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

13 A llora egli, distesa la mano, lo toccò dicendo: «Sí, lo voglio, sii mondato». E subito la lebbra lo lasciò.

And he put forth his hand and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.

14 E Gesú gli comandò: «Non dirlo a nessuno; ma va mostrati al sacerdote e fa' un'offerta per la tua purificazione, come ha prescritto Mosé, affinché ciò serva loro di testimonianza».

And he charged him to tell no one. But go and show thyself to the priest and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

15 E la sua fama si diffondeva sempre piú; e grandi folle si radunavano per udirlo e per essere da lui guarite dalle loro infermità.

But so much the more his fame went forth, and great multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by him of their infirmities.

16 M a egli si ritirava in luoghi solitari e pregava.

But he withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed.

17 O r un giorno avvenne che, mentre egli insegnava, erano presenti, seduti, dei farisei e dei dottori della legge, i quali erano venuti da tutti i villaggi della Galilea, della Giudea e da Gerusalemme; e la potenza del Signore era con lui, per compiere guarigioni.

¶ And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, who were come out of every town of Galilee and Judaea and Jerusalem; and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.

18 E d ecco, alcuni uomini portavano sopra un letto un uomo paralitico e cercavano di portarlo dentro e di metterlo davanti a lui.

And, behold, men brought in a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they sought means to bring him in and to lay him before him.

19 M a, non riuscendo ad introdurlo a causa della folla, salirono sul tetto della casa e lo calarono attraverso le tegole con il lettuccio, proprio in mezzo, davanti a Gesú.

And when they could not find any way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.

20 E d egli, veduta la loro fede, disse a quello: «Uomo, i tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati».

And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.

21 A llora gli scribi e i farisei cominciarono a ragionare, dicendo: «Chi è costui che pronunzia bestemmie? Chi può togliere i peccati se non Dio solo?».

And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

22 M a Gesú conosciuti i loro pensieri, prese la parola e disse loro: «Che ragionate nei vostri cuori?

Then Jesus, knowing their thoughts and answering them said, What reason ye in your hearts?

23 C he cosa è piú facile dire: "I tuoi peccati ti sono perdonati" oppure dire: "Alzati e cammina"

What is easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee, or to say, Rise up and walk?

24 O ra, affinché sappiate che il Figlio dell'uomo ha autorità sulla terra di perdonare i peccati, io ti dico, (disse al paralitico), alzati, prendi il tuo lettuccio e va' a casa tua».

But that ye may know that the Son of man has power upon earth to forgive sins (he said unto the paralytic), I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy couch and go to thine house.

25 E subito quell'uomo si alzò davanti a loro, prese il lettuccio su cui era disteso e se ne andò a casa sua, glorificando Dio.

And immediately he rose up before them and took up that upon which he lay and departed to his own house, glorifying God.

26 E tutti furono presi da stupore e glorificavano Dio. E, pieni di paura, dicevano: «Oggi abbiamo visto delle cose sorprendenti».

And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen marvels today.

27 E , dopo queste cose, egli uscí e vide un pubblicano di nome Levi che sedeva al banco delle imposte, e gli disse: «Seguimi».

¶ And after these things he went forth and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom, and he said unto him, Follow me.

28 E d egli, lasciata ogni cosa, si alzò e lo seguì.

And he left all, rose up, and followed him.

29 P oi Levi gli preparò un gran banchetto in casa sua, e una grande folla di pubblicani e di altri erano a tavola con loro.

And Levi made a great banquet in his own house and there was a great company of publicans and of others that sat down at the table with them.

30 M a gli scribi e i farisei di quel luogo mormoravano contro i discepoli di Gesú, dicendo: «Perché mangiate e bevete con i pubblicani e i peccatori?».

But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners?

31 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse loro: «Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati.

And Jesus answering said unto them, Those that are whole have no need of a physician, but those that are sick.

32 I O non sono venuto a chiamare a ravvedimento i giusti, ma i peccatori».

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

33 A llora essi gli dissero: «Perché i discepoli di Giovanni e anche quelli dei farisei digiunano spesso e fanno preghiere, mentre i tuoi mangiano e bevono?».

Then they said unto him, Why do the disciples of John fast often and make prayers and likewise the disciples of the Pharisees, but thine eat and drink?

34 E d egli disse loro: «Potete voi far digiunare gli intimi amici dello sposo, mentre lo sposo è con loro?

And he said unto them, Can ye make the sons of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them?

35 M a verranno i giorni in cui lo sposo sarà loro tolto e allora, in quei giorni, digiuneranno».

But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

36 I noltre disse loro una parabola: «Nessuno cuce un pezzo di un vestito nuovo sopra un vestito vecchio; altrimenti si trova con il nuovo strappato, e il pezzo tolto dal nuovo non si adatta al vecchio.

And he also spoke a parable unto them: No one takes a piece of a new garment to mend an old one; if otherwise, then the new one is rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new does not agree with the old.

37 E nessuno mette vino nuovo in otri vecchi; altrimenti il vino nuovo rompe gli otri, ed esso si spande e gli otri vanno perduti.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled and the wineskins shall perish.

38 M a bisogna mettere il vino nuovo in otri nuovi, cosí tutti e due si conservano.

But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved.

39 N essuno poi, avendo bevuto del vino vecchio, ne vuole subito del nuovo, perché egli dice: "Il vecchio è migliore"».

No one also having drunk of the old straightway desires the new, for he says, The old is better.
