1 P oi Salomone decise di costruire un tempio per il nome dell'Eterno e una reggia per sé.

¶ And Solomon determined to build a house for the name of the LORD and a house for his kingdom.

2 S alomone arruolò settantamila uomini per portare pesi, ottantamila per estrarre pietre nelle montagne e tremilaseicento per sorvegliare su di loro.

And Solomon counted seventy thousand men to bear burdens and eighty thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

3 P oi Salomone mandò a dire a Hiram re di Tiro: «Come hai fatto con Davide mio padre, al quale mandasti cedri per costruirsi una casa in cui abitare, fa' altrettanto con me.

And Solomon sent to Hiram, the king of Tyre, saying, As thou didst deal with David, my father, sending him cedars to build himself a house to dwell in, even so deal with me.

4 E cco io sto per costruire un tempio al nome dell'Eterno, il mio DIO, per consacrarglielo, per bruciare davanti a lui incenso odoroso, esporre continuamente i pani della presentazione e offrire gli olocausti mattina e sera, nei sabati, nei noviluni e nelle feste stabilite dall'Eterno, il nostro DIO. Questa è una legge perpetua per Israele.

Behold, I must build a house unto the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him and to burn aromatic incense before him and for the continual showbread and for the burnt offerings morning and evening on the sabbaths and on the new moons and on the solemn feasts of the LORD our God, which is to be perpetual in Israel.

5 I l tempio che io sto per costruire sarà grande, perché il nostro DIO è piú grande di tutti gli dèi.

And the house which I must build is great, for great is our God above all gods.

6 M a chi sarà in grado di costruirgli un tempio dato che i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non lo possono contenere? E chi sono io da costruirgli un tempio, anche solo per bruciare incenso davanti a lui?

But who is so powerful as to build him a house, seeing the heavens and heavens of the heavens cannot contain him? Who am I then that I should build him a house, except to burn incense before him?

7 P erciò ora mandami un uomo abile a lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, la porpora, lo scarlatto, il violaceo e che sappia fare ogni sorta d'intagli, lavorando insieme agli esperti che sono presso di me in Giuda, e a Gerusalemme, e che mio padre Davide ha preparato.

Send me now, therefore, a wise man who knows how to work in gold and in silver and in brass and in iron and in purple and crimson and blue and that knows how to engrave figures with the craftsmen that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David, my father, provided.

8 M andami anche dal Libano legname di cedro, di cipresso e di sandalo, perché so che i tuoi servi sono abili nel tagliare il legname del Libano; ed ecco, i miei servi lavoreranno con i servi tuoi,

Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and pine trees, out of Lebanon, for I know that thy slaves are skillful at cutting timber in Lebanon, and, behold, my slaves shall be with thy slaves

9 p er prepararmi legname in abbondanza, perché il tempio che io sto per costruire sarà grande e meraviglioso.

to prepare me timber in abundance, for the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

10 E ai tuoi servi che abbatteranno e taglieranno gli alberi io darò ventimila cori di grano, ventimila cori di orzo ventimila bati di vino e ventimila bati di olio».

And, behold, I will give to thy slaves, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat and twenty thousand measures of barley and twenty thousand baths of wine and twenty thousand baths of oil.

11 E Hiram, re di Tiro, rispose con uno scritto, che mandò a Salomone: «Poiché l'Eterno ama il suo popolo, ti ha costituito re su di esso».

¶ Then Hiram, the king of Tyre, answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because the LORD has loved his people, he has placed thee as king over them.

12 H iram diceva anche: «Benedetto sia l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, che ha fatto i cieli e la terra, perché ha dato al re Davide un figlio saggio, pieno di intelligenza e di capacità, che edificherà un tempio per l'Eterno e una reggia per sé!

Hiram said, moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made the heavens and the earth, who has given to King David a wise son with knowledge, good sense and understanding, that he might build a house for the LORD and a house for his kingdom.

13 I o ti mando un uomo abile e sapiente di mio padre Hiram,

And now I have sent a wise man, with knowledge and understanding, of Hiram my father,

14 f iglio di una donna delle figlie di Dan, mentre suo padre era un uomo di Tiro. Egli sa lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il bronzo, il ferro, la pietra, il legno, la porpora, il violaceo, il bisso, lo scarlatto, e sa fare qualsiasi intaglio e ogni disegno che gli venga affidato. Egli lavorerà con i tuoi esperti e con gli esperti del mio signore Davide, tuo padre.

the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan, and his father was a man of Tyre, skillful to work in gold and in silver, in brass, in iron, in stone, and in timber, in purple, in blue, in fine linen, and in crimson; also to engrave any manner of figure and to invent any design which shall be put to him, with thy craftsmen and with the craftsmen of my lord David, thy father.

15 O ra dunque il mio signore mandi ai suoi servi il grano, l'orzo, l'olio e il vino, che egli ha promesso;

Now, therefore, let my lord send unto his slaves the wheat and the barley, the oil and the wine, which he has spoken of;

16 e noi taglieremo tutti gli alberi del Libano di cui hai bisogno; te li porteremo quindi su zattere per mare fino a Jafo, e tu li farai trasportare a Gerusalemme».

and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as thou shalt need, and we will bring it to thee in rafts by sea to Joppa, and thou shalt cause it to be carried up to Jerusalem.

17 S alomone recensí tutti gli stranieri che si trovavano nel paese d'Israele dopo il censimento che Davide suo padre aveva fatto di loro, ne furono trovati centocinquantatremilaseicento,

And Solomon numbered all the strangers that were in the land of Israel, after David, his father, had already numbered them; and one hundred and fifty-three thousand six hundred were found.

18 e ne prese settantamila per portare pesi, ottantamila per tagliare pietre nella montagna e tremilaseicento sorveglianti che facessero lavorare il popolo.

And he set seventy thousand of them to be bearers of burdens and eighty thousand to be hewers in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred overseers to make the people work.
