1 L a parola che fu rivolta a Geremia riguardo a tutto il popolo di Giuda, nel quarto anno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda (che era il primo anno di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia),

¶ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, which is the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

2 e che Geremia pronunciò davanti a tutto il popolo di Giuda e a tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, dicendo:

this spoke Jeremiah the prophet unto all the people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

3 « Dal tredicesimo anno di Giosia figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, fino a questo giorno sono ventitrè anni che la parola dell'Eterno mi è stata rivolta, e io vi ho parlato con urgenza ed insistenza, ma voi non avete ascoltato.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, which are twenty-three years, the word of the LORD has come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and giving notice; but ye have not hearkened.

4 L 'Eterno vi ha pure mandato tutti i suoi servi, i profeti con urgenza ed insistenza, ma voi non avete ascoltato né prestato l'orecchio per ascoltare.

And the LORD has sent unto you all his slaves the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear,

5 E ssi dicevano: Si converta ciascuno dalla sua via malvagia e dalle sue cattive azioni, e abiterete nel paese che l'Eterno ha dato a voi e ai vostri padri da sempre e per sempre.

when they said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

6 N on andate dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e per prostrarvi davanti a loro e non provocatemi a ira con l'opera delle vostre mani, e io non vi farò male alcuno".

and do not go after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

7 M a voi non mi avete ascoltato», dice l'Eterno, «e mi avete provocato ad ira con l'opera delle vostre mani a vostro danno.

Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD, that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

8 P erciò cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Poiché non avete ascoltato le mie parole,

¶ Therefore thus saith the LORD of the hosts: Because ye have not heard my words,

9 e cco, io manderò a prendere tutte le nazioni del nord», dice l'Eterno, «e Nebukadnetsar re di Babilonia, mio servo, e le farò venire contro questo paese e contro i suoi abitanti e contro tutte le nazioni all'intorno e li voterò allo sterminio e li renderò un oggetto di stupore uno scherno e una desolazione perpetua.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north wind, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my slave, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these nations round about and will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

10 F arò cessare in mezzo a loro le grida di gioia e le grida di allegrezza, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa, il rumore della macina e la luce della lampada.

And I will cause them to lose the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp.

11 T utto questo paese diventerà una desolazione e un oggetto di stupore e queste nazioni serviranno il re di Babilonia per settant'anni».

And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment; and these Gentiles shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12 « Quando però saranno compiuti settant'anni, io punirò il re di Babilonia e quella nazione, il paese dei Caldei», dice l'Eterno, «a motivo della loro iniquità, e lo ridurrò a una desolazione perpetua.

And it shall come to pass when seventy years are accomplished, that I will visit upon the king of Babylon and upon that people their own evil, said the LORD and upon the land of the Chaldeans and will make it perpetual desolations.

13 C osí farò venire su quel paese tutte le cose che ho pronunciato contro di esso, tutto ciò che è scritto in questo libro e che Geremia ha profetizzato contro tutte le nazioni.

And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have spoken against it, with all that is written in this book, prophesied by Jeremiah against all the Gentiles.

14 I nfatti molte nazioni e re potenti ridurranno in servitú i Caldei stessi e li ripagherò secondo le loro azioni e secondo l'opera delle loro mani».

For many Gentiles and great kings shall serve themselves of them also; and I will recompense them according to their deeds and according to the works of their own hands.

15 P oiché cosí mi ha detto l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: «Prendi dalla mia mano questa coppa del vino della mia ira e falla bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali ti manderò.

¶ For thus hath the LORD God of Israel said unto me: Take the wine cup of this fury from my hand and cause all the Gentiles, to whom I send thee, to drink of it.

16 E sse berranno, barcolleranno e impazziranno a motivo della spada che manderò in mezzo a loro».

And they shall drink and be moved and become mad, before the sword that I will send among them.

17 A llora presi la coppa dalla mano dell'Eterno e la feci bere a tutte le nazioni alle quali l'Eterno mi aveva mandato:

Then took I the cup from the LORD’s hand and made all the Gentiles to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me,

18 G erusalemme e le città di Giuda, i suoi re e i suoi principi, per ridurli a una desolazione, a un oggetto di stupore, a uno scherno e a una maledizione come avviene oggi;

unto Jerusalem and to the cities of Judah and to its kings and to its princes, that I might place them into desolation, into astonishment, and into hissing, and into a curse, as this day,

19 i l Faraone, re d'Egitto, i suoi servi, i suoi principi e tutto il suo popolo;

unto Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his slaves and to his princes and to all his people,

20 t utta la popolazione mista, tutti i re del paese di Uz, tutti i re del paese dei Filistei (cioè Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron e i superstiti di Ashdod);

and to all the mingled people and to all the kings of the land of Uz and to all the kings of the land of the Philistines and to Ashkelon and to Gaza and to Ekron and to the remnant of Ashdod,

21 E dom, Moab e i figli di Ammon;

to Edom and to Moab and to the sons of Ammon,

22 t utti i re di Tiro, tutti i re di Sidone e i re delle isole, al di là del mare;

and to all the kings of Tyre and to all the kings of Zidon and to all the kings of the isles which are of that side of the sea,

23 D edan, Tema, Buz e tutti quelli che si tagliano gli angoli della barba;

and to Dedan, and to Tema and to Buz and to all that are in the utmost corners,

24 t utti i re di Arabia e tutti i re della popolazione mista che abita nel deserto;

and to all the kings of Arabia and to all the kings of the mingled peoples, the Arabia that dwells in the desert,

25 t utti i re di Zimri, tutti i re di Elam,

and to all the kings of Zimri and to all the kings of Elam and to all the kings of the Medes,

26 t utti i re della Media e tutti i re del nord vicini o lontani, gli uni e gli altri, e tutti i regni del mondo che sono sulla faccia della terra. E il re di Sceshak, berrà dopo di loro.

and to all the kings of the north wind, those of far and those of near, one with another and to all the kingdoms of the earth, which are upon the face of the earth and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

27 « Tu dunque dirai loro: Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: Bevete ubriacatevi e vomitate, cadete senza piú rialzarvi di fronte alla spada che manderò in mezzo a voi.

Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Drink and be drunken, and vomit and fall, and ye shall not rise in the presence of the sword which I send among you.

28 S e poi rifiuteranno di prendere dalla tua mano la coppa da bere, di' loro: Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Voi certamente berrete.

And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from thine hand to drink, then thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Ye must certainly drink.

29 P oiché ecco, io incomincio a punire la città sulla quale è invocato il mio nome, e rimarreste voi completamente impuniti? No, non rimarrete impuniti perché io chiamerò la spada su tutti gli abitanti della terra», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

For, Behold, I begin to bring evil upon the city which is called by my name, and should ye only be absolved? Ye shall not be absolved, for I bring the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of the hosts.

30 « Perciò profetizza contro di loro tutte queste cose e di' loro: L'Eterno ruggirà dall'alto e farà sentire la sua voce dalla sua santa dimora; egli ruggirà con forza contro il suo ovile, manderà un grido come i pigiatori d'uva contro tutti gli abitanti della terra.

¶ Therefore, thou shalt prophesy against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high and from the habitation of his holiness he shall utter his voice; in fury he shall roar upon his habitation; he shall sing the song of those that tread grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

31 I l clamore giungerà fino all'estremità della terra, perché l'Eterno ha una contesa con le nazioni, egli entrerà in giudizio con ogni carne e darà gli empi in balìa della spada, dice l'Eterno».

The noise came even to the ends of the earth; for it is judgment of the LORD with the Gentiles; he is the Judge of all flesh; he will give those that are wicked to the sword, said the LORD.

32 C osí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: «Ecco, una calamità passerà di nazione in nazione e un gran turbine si leverà dalle estremità della terra.

Thus saith the LORD of the hosts, Behold, the evil goes forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

33 I n quel giorno gli uccisi dall'Eterno saranno ovunque, da una estremità all'altra della terra; non saranno rimpianti né raccolti né sepolti, ma diventeranno letame sulla faccia del suolo.

And the slain of the LORD shall be in that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be as dung upon the ground.

34 U rlate, o pastori, e gridate; voltolatevi nella polvere, o guide del gregge, perché i giorni del vostro macello sono compiuti, e cadrete come un vaso prezioso.

Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the dust, ye principals of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like an enticing vessel.

35 I pastori non avranno alcuna possibilità di fuggire, e le guide del gregge alcuna via di scampo.

And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor for the principals of the flock to escape.

36 S i udrà il grido dei pastori e il gemito delle guide del gregge, perché l'Eterno sta distruggendo il loro pascolo

The voice of the cry of the shepherds and a howling of the principals of the flock shall be heard! For the LORD has spoiled their pasture.

37 e gli ovili tranquilli sono devastati a motivo dell'ardente ira dell'Eterno.

And the quiet pastures shall be cut off by the fierce anger of the LORD.

38 E gli ha lasciato come un leoncello il suo rifugio, perché il loro paese è diventato una desolazione a motivo del furore dell'oppressore, a motivo dell'ardente ira dell'Eterno».

He has forsaken his habitation, as the young lion; for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor and because of his fierce anger.
