1 C ome sei bella, amica mia, come sei bella! I tuoi occhi dietro al tuo velo sono come quelli delle colombe; i tuoi capelli sono come un gregge di capre, che pascolano sul monte Galaad.

¶ Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks; thy hair is as a flock of goats that appear from Mount Gilead.

2 I tuoi denti sono come un gregge di pecore tosate, che tornano dal lavatoio; tutte hanno gemelli, e nessuna di esse è sterile,

Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; of which every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.

3 L e tue labbra sono come un filo di scarlatto, e la tua bocca è graziosa; le tue tempie dietro al tuo velo sono come uno spicchio di melagrana.

Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is lovely; thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.

4 I l tuo collo è come la torre di Davide, costruita per un'armeria, su cui sono appesi mille scudi, tutti scudi di uomini valorosi.

Thy neck is like the tower of David built for teaching, upon which there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.

5 L e tue due mammelle sono come due cerbiatti, gemelli di gazzella, che pascolano fra i gigli.

Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which are fed among the lilies.

6 P rima che spiri la brezza del giorno e le ombre fuggano, me ne andrò al monte della mirra e al colle dell'incenso.

Until the day breaks, and the shadows flee away, I will go to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense.

7 T u sei tutta bella, amica mia, e non c'è in te alcun difetto.

Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.

8 V ieni con me dal Libano, o mia sposa vieni con me dal Libano! Guarda dalla sommità dell'Amana, dalla sommità del Senir e dell'Hermon, dalle tane dei leoni, dai monti dei leopardi.

¶ With me from Lebanon, my spouse, thou shalt come with me from Lebanon; thou shalt look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

9 T u mi hai rapito il cuore, o mia sorella sposa mia; tu mi hai rapito il cuore con un solo sguardo dei tuoi occhi, con uno solo dei monili del tuo collo.

Thou hast taken hold of my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast imprisoned my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.

10 Q uanto è piacevole il tuo amore, o mia sorella, sposa mia! Quanto migliore del vino è il tuo amore e la fragranza dei tuoi olii profumati è piú soave di tutti gli aromi!

How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

11 O sposa mia, le tue labbra stillano come un favo di miele, miele e latte sono sotto la tua lingua, e la fragranza delle tue vesti è come la fragranza del Libano.

Thy lips, O my spouse, drip as the honeycomb; honey and milk are under thy tongue, and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

12 L a mia sorella, la mia sposa è un giardino chiuso, una sorgente chiusa, una fonte sigillata.

A closed garden is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

13 I tuoi germogli sono un giardino di melograni con frutti squisiti, piante di alcanna con nardo,

Thy newly budded plants are a paradise of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,

14 n ardo e croco, cannella e cinnamomo, con ogni specie di alberi d'incenso, mirra ed aloe, con tutti i migliori aromi.

spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

15 T u sei una fonte di giardini, un pozzo di acque vive, ruscelli che scaturiscono dal Libano.

¶ A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, that flow from Lebanon.

16 L èvati, aquilone, e vieni, austro, soffia sul mio giardino, e i suoi aromi si effondano! Entri il mio diletto nel suo giardino e ne mangi i frutti squisiti!

Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden that the aroma of its spices may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his sweet fruits.
