1 D avide tenne consiglio con i capi di migliaia e di centinaia e con tutti i principi.

¶ And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds and with all the princes.

2 P oi Davide disse a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele: «Se sembra bene e se è da parte dell'Eterno, il nostro DIO, mandiamo a dire ai nostri fratelli che sono rimasti in tutte le regioni d'Israele, e con loro anche ai sacerdoti e ai Leviti nelle loro città e terreni da pascolo di radunarsi presso di noi

And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seems good unto you and unto the LORD our God, let us send everywhere to call our brethren who have remained in all the lands of Israel and with them also the priests and Levites who are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us;

3 e riportiamo da noi l'arca del nostro DIO, perché non l'abbiamo ricercata ai tempi di Saul».

and let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for from the time of Saul we have not paid attention to it.

4 T utta l'assemblea acconsentí a fare cosí, perché la cosa parve giusta agli occhi di tutto il popolo.

And all the congregation said to do so, for the thing seemed right in the eyes of all the people.

5 A llora Davide radunò tutto Israele, da Scihor d'Egitto fino all'ingresso di Hamath, per riportare l'arcadi DIO da Kirjath-Jearim.

So David gathered all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering of Hemath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjathjearim.

6 Q uindi Davide con tutto Israele salí verso Baalah, cioè verso Kirjath-Jearim che apparteneva a Giuda, per trasportare di là l'arca di DIO, l'Eterno, che siede sopra i cherubini, dove è invocato il suo nome.

And David went up with all Israel to Baalah, that is, to Kirjathjearim, which is in Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who dwells between the cherubim, whose name is called on it.

7 D alla casa di Abinadab trasportarono l'arca di DIO sopra un carro nuovo: Uzza e Ah io guidavano il carro.

And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and his brother drove the cart.

8 D avide e tutto Israele facevano festa davanti a DIO con tutte le loro forze, con canti e con cetre, arpe, tamburelli, cembali e trombe.

And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, with songs and with harps and with psalteries and with timbrels and with cymbals and with trumpets.

9 Q uando giunsero all'aia di Kidon, Uzza stese la mano per sostenere l'arca, perché i buoi inciamparono.

¶ And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark, for the oxen stumbled.

10 A llora l'ira dell'Eterno si accese contro Uzza e lo colpí, perché aveva steso la sua mano sull'arca; egli morí là davanti a DIO.

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him because he had put his hand to the ark, and there he died before God.

11 D avide fu grandemente amareggiato perché l'Eterno aveva aperto una breccia nel popolo colpendo Uzza. Cosí quel luogo è stato chiamato la Breccia di Uzza fino ad oggi.

And David was displeased because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza; therefore, that place is called Perezuzza to this day.

12 D avide in quel giorno ebbe paura di DIO e disse: «Come posso trasportare l'arca di DIO a casa mia?».

And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?

13 C osí Davide non volle trasportare l'arca presso di sé nella città di Davide, ma la fece trasferire in casa di Obed-Edom di Gath.

So David did not bring the ark home to himself to the city of David but carried it into the house of Obededom, the Gittite.

14 L 'arca di DIO rimase tre mesi con la famiglia di Obed-Edom in casa sua; e l'Eterno benedisse la casa di Obed-Edom e tutto ciò che gli apparteneva.

And the ark of God remained with the household of Obededom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the household of Obededom and all that he had.
