1 « Il regno dei cieli infatti è simile a un padrone di casa, che di buon mattino uscí per prendere a giornata dei lavoratori e mandarli nella sua vigna.

¶ For the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, the husband of a house, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.

2 A ccordatosi con i lavoratori per un denaro al giorno, li mandò nella sua vigna.

And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 U scito poi verso l'ora terza, ne vide altri che stavano in piazza disoccupati.

And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace

4 E disse loro: "Andate anche voi nella vigna e io vi darò ciò che è giusto" Ed essi andarono.

and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went.

5 U scito di nuovo verso l'ora sesta e l'ora nona, fece altrettanto.

Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour and did likewise.

6 U scito ancora verso l'undicesima ora, ne trovò altri che se ne stavano disoccupati e disse loro: "Perché ve ne state qui tutto il giorno senza far nulla?"

And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle and said unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?

7 E ssi gli dissero: "Perché nessuno ci ha presi a giornata" Egli disse loro: "Andate anche voi nella vigna e riceverete ciò che è giusto"

They say unto him, Because no one has hired us. He said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is right, that shall ye receive.

8 P oi fattosi sera, il padrone della vigna disse al suo fattore: "Chiama i lavoratori e paga loro il salario, cominciando dagli ultimi fino ai primi"

So when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the labourers and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.

9 E , venuti quelli dell'undicesima ora, ricevettero ciascuno un denaro.

And when those came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a denarius.

10 Q uando vennero i primi, pensavano di ricevere di piú, ma ricevettero anch'essi un denaro per uno.

But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more but they likewise received each one a denarius.

11 N el riceverlo, mormoravano contro il padrone di casa,

And when they had received it, they murmured against the husband of the house,

12 d icendo: "Questi ultimi hanno lavorato solo un'ora, e tu li hai trattati come noi che abbiamo sopportato il peso e il caldo della giornata".

saying, These last have worked but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us who have borne the burden and heat of the day.

13 M a egli, rispondendo, disse a uno di loro: "amico, io non ti faccio alcun torto; non ti sei accordato con me per un denaro?

But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a denarius?

14 P rendi ciò che è tuo e vattene; ma io voglio dare a quest'ultimo quanto a te.

Take that which is thine and go, for I desire to give unto this last one, even as unto thee.

15 N on mi è forse lecito fare del mio ciò che voglio? O il tuo occhio è cattivo, perché io sono buono?"

Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?

16 C osí gli ultimi saranno primi e i primi ultimi, perché molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti».

So the first shall be last, and the last first; for many are called, but few are chosen.

17 P oi, mentre Gesú saliva a Gerusalemme, strada facendo, prese in disparte i dodici discepoli e disse loro:

¶ And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way and said unto them,

18 « Ecco, noi saliamo a Gerusalemme e il Figlio dell'uomo sarà dato in mano dei capi dei sacerdoti e degli scribi, ed essi lo condanneranno a morte.

Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the princes of the priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death

19 L o consegneranno poi nelle mani dei gentili perché sia schernito, flagellato e crocifisso; ma il terzo giorno egli risusciterà».

and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify; and the third day he shall rise again.

20 A llora la madre dei figli di Zebedeo si accostò a lui con i suoi figli, si prostrò e gli chiese qualche cosa.

¶ Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, worshipping him and desiring a certain thing of him.

21 E d egli le disse: «Che vuoi?». Ella rispose: «Ordina che questi miei due figli siedano l'uno alla tua destra e l'altro alla sinistra nel tuo regno».

And he said unto her, What dost thou desire? She said unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit the one on thy right hand and the other on the left in thy kingdom.

22 E Gesú, rispondendo, disse: «Voi non sapete ciò che domandate, potete voi bere il calice che io sto per bere, ed essere battezzati del battesimo di cui io sarò battezzato?». Essi gli dissero: «Sí, lo possiamo».

But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.

23 A llora egli disse loro: «Voi certo berrete il mio calice e sarete battezzati del battesimo di cui io sarò battezzato; ma sedere alla mia destra o alla mia sinistra non sta a me concederlo, ma è riservato a coloro per i quali è stato preparato dal Padre mio».

And he said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but it shall be given to those for whom it is prepared of my Father.

24 A ll'udire ciò, gli altri dieci si indignarono contro i due fratelli.

And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brothers.

25 E Gesú, chiamatili a sé, disse: «Voi sapete che i sovrani delle nazioni le signoreggiano e che i grandi esercitano il potere su di esse,

But Jesus called them unto him and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and those that are great wield power over them.

26 m a tra di voi non sarà così; anzi chiunque tra di voi vorrà diventare grande sia vostro servo;

But it shall not be so among you, but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;

27 e chiunque tra di voi vorrà essere primo a sia vostro schiavo.

and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your slave,

28 P oiché anche il Figlio dell'uomo non è venuto per essere servito, ma per servire e per dare la sua vita come prezzo di riscatto per molti».

even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

29 M entre essi uscivano da Gerico, una grande folla li seguí.

¶ And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

30 E d ecco, due ciechi che sedevano lungo la strada, avendo udito che Gesú passava, si misero a gridare dicendo: «Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Figlio di Davide».

And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.

31 M a la folla li sgridava perché tacessero; essi però gridavano ancora piú forte dicendo: «Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, Figlio di Davide!».

And the multitude rebuked them, that they should be silent; but they cried the more, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.

32 A llora Gesú, fermatosi, li chiamò e disse: «Che volete che io vi faccia?».

And Jesus stood still and called them and said, What desire ye that I shall do unto you?

33 E ssi gli dissero: «Signore, che i nostri occhi si aprano!».

They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.

34 E Gesú, mosso a pietà, toccò i loro occhi; e all'istante i loro occhi recuperarono la vista e lo seguirono.

Then Jesus, having mercy on them, touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.
