1 P oi un ramoscello uscirà dal tronco di Isai e un germoglio spunterà dalle sue radici.

¶ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

2 L o Spirito dell'Eterno riposerà su lui: spirito di sapienza e d'intelligenza, spirito di consiglio e di potenza, spirito di conoscenza e di timore dell'Eterno.

And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD,

3 I l suo diletto sarà nel timore dell'Eterno, non giudicherà secondo le apparenze, non darà sentenze per sentito di re,

and shall make him of quick olfaction in the fear of the LORD; and he shall not judge according to the sight of his eyes, neither reprove according to the hearing of his ears:

4 m a giudicherà i poveri con giustizia e farà decisioni eque per gli umili del paese. Colpirà il paese con la verga della sua bocca e col soffio delle sue labbra farà morire l'empio.

But with righteousness shall he judge the poor and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the spirit of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

5 L a giustizia sarà la cintura dei suoi lombi, e la fedeltà la cintura dei suoi fianchi.

And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faith the girdle of his kidneys.

6 I l lupo abiterà con l'agnello e il leopardo giacerà col capretto; il vitello, il leoncello e il bestiame ingrassato, staranno insieme e un bambino li guiderà.

The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a child shall shepherd them.

7 L a vacca pascolerà con l'orsa, i loro piccoli giaceranno insieme, e il leone si nutrirà di paglia come il bue.

The cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 I l lattante giocherà sulla buca dell'aspide, e il bambino divezzato metterà la sua mano nel covo della vipera.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

9 N on si farà né male né distruzione su tutto il mio monte santo, poiché il paese sarà ripieno della conoscenza dell'Eterno, come le acque ricoprono il mare.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

10 I n quel giorno avverrà che la radice di Isai si ergerà come una bandiera per i popoli; le nazioni lo cercheranno, e il luogo del suo riposo, sarà glorioso.

¶ And it shall be in that day that the Root of Jesse, who shall be lifted up as a banner, as an example to the Gentiles shall be sought by the Gentiles; and his Kingdom of peace shall be glorious.

11 I n quel giorno avverrà che il Signore stenderà la sua mano una seconda volta per riscattare il residuo del suo popolo superstite dall'Assiria e dall'Egitto, da Pathros e dall'Etiopia, da Elam, da Scinar e da Hamath e dalle isole del mare.

And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall return to set his hand again to possess the remnant of his people which were left from Assyria and from Egypt and from Pathros and from Cush and from Elam and from Shinar and from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

12 E gli alzerà il vessillo per le nazioni, raccoglierà gli espulsi d'Israele e radunerà i dispersi di Giuda dai quattro angoli della terra.

And he shall raise up a banner, as an example for the Gentiles and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

13 L a gelosia di Efraim scomparirà e gli avversari di Giuda saranno annientati; Efraim non invidierà piú Giuda e Giuda non sarà piú ostile ad Efraim.

The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off; Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.

14 E ssi piomberanno a volo sulle spalle dei Filistei verso occidente, insieme saccheggeranno i figli dell'oriente; metteranno le loro mani su Edom, e su Moab, e i figli di Ammon saranno loro sudditi.

But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil those of the east together; they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the sons of Ammon shall obey them.

15 L 'Eterno distruggerà interamente la lingua del mare d'Egitto, e con la potenza del suo soffio agiterà la sua mano sul fiume e lo colpirà dividendolo in sette canali, cosí da poterlo attraversare con i sandali.

And the LORD shall utterly dry up the tongue of the Egyptian sea and shall raise his hand in the strength of his spirit upon the river and shall smite it into seven streams and make men go over dryshod.

16 V i sarà una strada per il residuo del suo popolo rimasto in Assiria, come ce ne fu una per Israele il giorno che uscí dal paese d'Egitto.

And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left from Assyria like as it was for Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
