1 P oi l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

2 « Parla ai figli d'Israele e fatti dare da loro delle verghe, una per ogni casa dei loro padri, cioè dodici verghe da parte di tutti i loro principi secondo le case dei loro padri; scriverai il nome di ognuno sulla sua verga;

Speak unto the sons of Israel and take of each of them a rod according to the houses of their fathers, of all their princes, twelve rods according to the houses of their fathers, and write thou each man’s name upon his rod.

3 e scriverai il nome di Aaronne sulla verga di Levi, Poiché ci sarà una verga per ogni capo delle case dei loro padri.

And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi, for each head of family of their fathers shall have one rod.

4 P oi le metterai nella tenda di convegno, davanti alla testimonianza, dove io mi incontro con voi.

And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the testimony, before the testimony, where I will testify of myself unto you.

5 E avverrà che la verga dell'uomo che io scelgo, fiorirà e farò cessare davanti a me i mormorii che i figli d'Israele mormorano contro di voi».

And it shall come to pass regarding the man whom I shall choose that his rod shall blossom; and I will resolve the complaints of the sons of Israel, with which they murmur against you.

6 C osì Mosè parlò ai figli d'Israele e tutti i loro principi gli diedero una verga ciascuno, secondo le case dei loro padri, cioè dodici verghe; e la verga di Aaronne era in mezzo alle loro verghe.

And Moses spoke unto the sons of Israel, and all their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods; and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.

7 M osè quindi mise quelle verghe davanti all'Eterno nella tenda della testimonianza.

And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of the testimony.

8 I l giorno seguente, Mosè entrò nella tenda della testimonianza; ed ecco, la verga di Aaronne per la casa di Levi era fiorita: aveva messo fuori dei germogli, aveva fatto sbocciare dei fiori e prodotto delle mandorle.

¶ And it came to pass that on the next day Moses went into the tabernacle of the testimony; and, behold, the rod of Aaron of the house of Levi had budded and blossomed and brought forth open flowers and yielded almonds.

9 A llora Mosè portò fuori tutte le verghe dalla presenza dell'Eterno davanti a tutti i figli d'Israele; ed essi le videro e presero ciascuno la sua verga.

Then Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the sons of Israel; and they looked, and each one took his rod.

10 L 'Eterno disse quindi a Mosè: «Riporta la verga di Aaronne davanti alla testimonianza, perché sia conservata come un segno di monito per i ribelli, affinché sia messo fine ai loro mormorii contro di me ed essi non muoiano».

And the LORD said unto Moses, Return Aaron’s rod before the testimony to be kept for a sign unto the rebellious sons; and thou shalt cause their complaints to cease from upon me, that they not die.

11 M osè fece così; fece come l'Eterno gli aveva comandato.

And Moses did as the LORD commanded him, so did he.

12 I figli d'Israele parlarono quindi a Mosè, dicendo: «Ecco, periamo, siamo perduti, siamo tutti perduti!

Then the sons of Israel spoke unto Moses, saying, Behold, we are dead, we are lost, we are all lost.

13 C hiunque si avvicina al tabernacolo dell'Eterno, muore; dovremo perire tutti quanti?».

Anyone who comes near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die; shall we all perish?
