1 A ll'inizio del regno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, dall'Eterno fu rivolta questa parola, dicendo:

¶ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

2 « Cosí dice l'Eterno: Presentati nel cortile della casa dell'Eterno e di' a tutte le città di Giuda che vengono ad adorare nella casa dell'Eterno, tutte le parole che io ti comando di dir loro; non tralasciare nemmeno una parola.

Thus hath the LORD said: Stand in the court of the LORD’s house and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I commanded thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

3 F orse ascolteranno e si convertiranno ciascuno dalla sua via malvagia e io mi pentirò del male che penso di far venire su di loro per la malvagità delle loro azioni.

peradventure they will hearken and turn each man from his evil way, that I may repent of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

4 T u dirai loro: Cosí dice l'Eterno: Se non darete ascolto camminando nella mia legge che ho posto davanti a voi

And thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD said: If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

5 e prestando attenzione alle parole dei miei servi, i profeti, che vi ho mandato con urgenza ed insistenza (ma che voi non avete ascoltato),

to hearken to the words of my slaves the prophets, whom I send unto you, rising up early and sending them, unto whom ye have not hearkened,

6 i o renderò questo tempio come Sciloh, e renderò questa città una maledizione per tutte le nazioni della terra».

then I will make this house like Shiloh and will give this city as a curse to all the Gentiles of the earth.

7 C osí i sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo udirono Geremia che pronunciava queste parole nella casa dell'Eterno.

¶ And the priests, the prophets, and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

8 E avvenne che, come Geremia ebbe finito di pronunciare tutto ciò che l'Eterno gli aveva comandato di dire a tutto il popolo, i sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo lo presero, dicendo: «Tu devi morire!

Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

9 P erché hai profetizzato nel nome dell'Eterno dicendo: "Questo tempio sarà come Sciloh e questa città sarà devastata e senza abitanti"». Tutto il popolo si radunò contro Geremia nella casa dell'Eterno.

Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

10 Q uando i principi di Giuda udirono queste cose, salirono dalla casa del re alla casa dell'Eterno e si sedettero all'ingresso della porta nuova della casa dell'Eterno.

When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house.

11 Q uindi i sacerdoti e i profeti parlarono ai principi e a tutto il popolo, dicendo: «Quest'uomo merita la morte, perché ha profetizzato contro questa città come avete udito con i vostri stessi orecchi».

Then the priests and the prophets spoke unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he has prophesied against this city as ye have heard with your ears.

12 A llora Geremia parlò a tutti i principi e a tutto il popolo, dicendo: «L'Eterno mi ha mandato a profetizzare contro questa casa e contro questa città tutte le cose che avete udito.

Then Jeremiah spoke unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

13 P erciò ora emendate le vostre vie e le vostre azioni e ascoltate la voce dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO, e l'Eterno si pentirà del male che ha pronunciato contro di voi.

Therefore now amend your ways and your doings and hear the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD himself will repent of the evil that he has pronounced against you.

14 Q uanto a me, eccomi nelle vostre mani; fate di me come vi sembra bene e giusto.

As for me, behold, I am in your hands; do with me as seems good and meet unto you.

15 M a sappiate per certo che se mi fate morire, attirerete sangue innocente su di voi, su questa città e sui suoi abitanti, perché l'Eterno mi ha veramente mandato a voi, per dichiarare ai vostri orecchi tutte queste parole».

But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon its inhabitants; for of a truth the LORD has sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

16 A llora i principi e tutto il popolo dissero ai sacerdoti e ai profeti: «Quest'uomo non merita la morte, perché ci ha parlato nel nome dell'Eterno, il nostro DIO».

¶ Then the princes and all the people said unto the priests and to the prophets: This man is not worthy to die, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

17 Q uindi si alzarono alcuni degli anziani del paese e parlarono a tutta l'assemblea del popolo, dicendo:

Then certain of the elders of the land rose up and spoke to all the congregation of the people, saying,

18 « Michea, il Morashtita, profetizzò ai giorni di Ezechia, re di Giuda, e parlò a tutto il popolo di Giuda, dicendo: Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Sion sarà arata come un campo Gerusalemme diventerà un cumulo di rovine e il monte del tempio un'altura boscosa".

Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the temple mount as the high places of a forest.

19 L o misero forse a morte Ezechia, re di Giuda, e tutto Giuda? Non temette piuttosto egli l'Eterno e non supplicò forse la faccia dell'Eterno, e cosí l'Eterno si pentí del male che aveva pronunciato contro di loro? Noi stiamo invece facendo un gran male contro noi stessi».

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? Did he not fear the LORD and besought the LORD, and the LORD himself repented of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Shall we commit such great evil against our souls?

20 C i fu anche un altro uomo che profetizzò nel nome dell'Eterno, Uria, figlio di Scemaiah, di Kiriath-Jearim; egli profetizzò contro questa città e contro questo paese con parole in tutto simili a quelle di Geremia.

There was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

21 Q uando il re Jehoiakim, tutti i suoi uomini prodi e tutti i suoi principi udirono le sue parole, il re cercò di metterlo a morte, ma Uria lo venne a sapere e ne ebbe paura; perciò fuggí e andò in Egitto.

And Jehoiakim the king heard his words and all his mighty men and all the princes, and the king sought to put him to death, but when Urijah understood it, he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt.

22 A llora il re Jehoiakim mandò degli uomini in Egitto, Elnathan, figlio di Akbor, e altri uomini con lui in Egitto.

And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him into Egypt;

23 C ostoro fecero uscire Uria dall'Egitto, e lo condussero al re Jehoiakim, che lo colpí con la spada e gettò il suo cadavere fra le tombe dei figli del popolo.

and they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

24 M a la mano di Ahikam, figlio di Shafan fu con Geremia, perché non lo consegnassero nelle mani del popolo per metterlo a morte.

Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
