1 « Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Di Davide.» Se l'Eterno non fosse stato dalla nostra parte, dica pure Israele:

¶ If the LORD had not been for us, now may Israel say,

2 « Se l'Eterno non fosse stato dalla nostra parte, quando gli uomini si levarono contro di noi,

If the LORD had not been for us, when men rose up against us,

3 e ssi ci avrebbero inghiottiti vivi, tanto divampò la loro ira contro di noi;

then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

4 a llora le acque ci avrebbero sommerso e il torrente ci sarebbe passato sopra,

then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the flood would have gone over our soul;

5 a llora le acque rigonfie ci sarebbero passate sopra».

then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

6 B enedetto sia l'Eterno, che non ci ha dati in preda ai loro denti.

¶ Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as a prey to their teeth.

7 L 'anima nostra è scampata come un uccello dal laccio dell'uccellatore; il laccio si è spezzato e noi siamo scampati.

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped.

8 I l nostro aiuto è nel nome dell'Eterno che ha fatto i cieli e la terra.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heaven and the earth.
