¶ If the LORD had not been for us, now may Israel say,

2 s e il Signore non fosse stato in nostro favore, quando gli uomini ci assalirono,

If the LORD had not been for us, when men rose up against us,

3 e ssi ci avrebbero inghiottiti vivi, talmente erano furiosi contro di noi.

then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

4 A llora le acque ci avrebbero sommersi, il torrente sarebbe passato sull’anima nostra;

then the waters would have overwhelmed us; the flood would have gone over our soul;

5 a llora sarebbero passate sull’anima nostra le acque tempestose.

then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

6 B enedetto sia il Signore che non ci ha abbandonati in preda ai loro denti!

¶ Blessed be the LORD, who did not give us as a prey to their teeth.

7 L ’anima nostra è scampata come un uccello dal laccio dei cacciatori: il laccio è stato spezzato e noi siamo scampati.

Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare has broken, and we are escaped.

8 I l nostro aiuto è nel nome del Signore, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heaven and the earth.
