1 N el principio del regno di Ioiachim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, questa parola fu rivolta dal Signore a Geremia in questi termini:

¶ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 C osì mi ha detto il Signore: «Fatti delle catene e dei gioghi e mettiteli sul collo;

Thus hath the LORD said unto me: Make thee bonds and yokes and put them upon thy neck;

3 p oi mandali al re di Edom, al re di Moab, al re dei figli di Ammon, al re di Tiro e al re di Sidone, mediante gli ambasciatori che sono venuti a Gerusalemme da Sedechia, re di Giuda.

and thou shalt send them to the king of Edom and to the king of Moab and to the king of the Ammonites and to the king of Tyre and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the ambassadors which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

4 O rdina loro che dicano ai loro signori: Così parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele: Direte questo ai vostri signori:

and thou shalt command them to say unto their masters, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Thus shall ye say unto your masters:

5 “ Io ho fatto la terra, gli uomini e gli animali che sono sulla faccia della terra, con la mia gran potenza e con il mio braccio steso; io do la terra a chi voglio.

I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom was upright in my eyes.

6 O ra io do tutti questi paesi in mano a Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, mio servitore; gli do pure gli animali della campagna perché gli siano sottomessi.

And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my slave; and even the beasts of the field I have given him that they might serve him.

7 T utte le nazioni saranno sottomesse a lui, a suo figlio e al figlio di suo figlio, finché giunga il tempo anche per il suo paese; allora molte nazioni e grandi re lo ridurranno in schiavitù.

And all the Gentiles shall serve him and his son and his son’s son, until the time of his own land shall come also; and many nations and great kings shall serve him.

8 L a nazione o il regno che non vorrà sottomettersi a lui, a Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, e non vorrà piegare il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, quella nazione io la punirò”, dice il Signore, “con la spada, con la fame, con la peste, finché io non l’abbia sterminata per mano di lui.

And it shall come to pass, that the people and the kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that people I will visit, saith the LORD, with the sword and with the famine and with the pestilence, until I have finished placing all of them under his hand.

9 V oi dunque non ascoltate i vostri profeti, né i vostri indovini, né i vostri sognatori, né i vostri pronosticatori, né i vostri maghi che vi dicono: ‘Non sarete sottomessi al re di Babilonia!’

Therefore do not hearken unto your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your sorcerers, nor to your enchanters, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:

10 E ssi infatti vi profetizzano menzogna, per allontanarvi dal vostro paese, perché io vi cacci e voi periate.

For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

11 M a la nazione che piegherà il suo collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia e gli sarà sottomessa, io la lascerò stare nel suo paese”, dice il Signore, “ed essa lo coltiverà e vi abiterà”».

But the people that submit their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, said the LORD; and they shall till it and dwell therein.

12 I o parlai dunque a Sedechia, re di Giuda, secondo tutte queste parole, e dissi: «Piegate il collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, sottomettetevi a lui e al suo popolo, e vivrete.

¶ I spoke also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Submit your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people and live.

13 P erché dovreste morire, tu e il tuo popolo, di spada, di fame e di peste, come il Signore ha detto della nazione che non si lascerà sottomettere al re di Babilonia?

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD has spoken unto the people that will not serve the king of Babylon?

14 N on date ascolto alle parole dei profeti che vi dicono: “Non sarete sottomessi al re di Babilonia!”, perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

Therefore do not hearken unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

15 “ Io infatti non li ho mandati”, dice il Signore, “ma profetizzano falsamente nel mio nome perché io vi cacci e voi periate, voi e i profeti che vi profetizzano”».

For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

16 P arlai pure ai sacerdoti e a tutto questo popolo, e dissi: «Così parla il Signore: “Non date ascolto alle parole dei vostri profeti i quali vi profetizzano, dicendo: ‘Ecco, gli arredi della casa del Signore saranno tra poco riportati da Babilonia’, perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

Also I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus hath the LORD said: Hearken not unto the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’s house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

17 N on date loro ascolto; sottomettetevi al re di Babilonia, e vivrete. Perché questa città dovrebbe essere ridotta in desolazione?

Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon and live: why should this city be laid waste?

18 S e sono profeti, e se la parola del Signore è con loro, intercedano ora presso il Signore degli eserciti perché gli arredi rimasti nella casa del Signore, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme, non vadano a Babilonia.

But if they are prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, let them pray now unto the LORD of the hosts that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD and in the house of the king of Judah and at Jerusalem, not go to Babylon.

19 P erché così parla il Signore degli eserciti riguardo alle colonne, al Mare, alle basi e al resto degli arredi rimasti in questa città

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,

20 e che non furono presi da Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, quando deportò da Gerusalemme a Babilonia Ieconia, figlio di Ioiachim, re di Giuda e tutti i nobili di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme;

which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;

21 c osì, dico, parla il Signore degli eserciti, Dio d’Israele, riguardo agli arredi che rimangono nella casa del Signore, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme:

yea, thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said concerning the vessels that remained in the house of the LORD and in the house of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem;

22 ‘ Saranno portati a Babilonia, e là rimarranno finché io li cercherò’, dice il Signore, ‘e li farò risalire e ritornare in questo luogo’”».

they shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them, said the LORD; and afterwards I will bring them up and restore them to this place.
