1 P oi cominciò a parlare loro in parabole: «Un uomo piantò una vigna, le fece attorno una siepe, vi scavò una buca per pigiare l’uva e vi costruì una torre; l’affittò a dei vignaiuoli e se ne andò in viaggio.

¶ And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard and set a hedge about it and dug a place for the winefat and built a tower and let it out to husbandmen and went far away.

2 A l tempo della raccolta mandò a quei vignaiuoli un servo per ricevere da loro la sua parte dei frutti della vigna.

And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a slave that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

3 M a essi lo presero, lo picchiarono e lo rimandarono a mani vuote.

And taking him, they beat him and sent him away empty.

4 E gli mandò loro un altro servo; e anche questo insultarono e ferirono alla testa.

And again he sent unto them another slave, and casting stones at him, they wounded him in the head and sent him away shamefully handled.

5 E gli ne mandò un altro, e quelli lo uccisero; poi molti altri, che picchiarono o uccisero.

And again he sent another, and him they killed and many others, beating some and killing some.

6 A veva ancora un figlio diletto; glielo mandò per ultimo, dicendo: “Avranno rispetto per mio figlio”.

Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

7 M a quei vignaiuoli dissero tra di loro: “Costui è l’erede; venite, uccidiamolo e l’eredità sarà nostra”.

But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the place shall be ours.

8 C osì lo presero, lo uccisero e lo gettarono fuori dalla vigna.

And taking hold of him, they killed him and cast him out of the vineyard.

9 C he farà {dunque} il padrone della vigna? Egli verrà, farà perire quei vignaiuoli e darà la vigna ad altri.

What, therefore, shall the lord of the vineyard do? He shall come and destroy those husbandmen and shall give his vineyard unto others.

10 N on avete neppure letto questa Scrittura: “La pietra che i costruttori hanno rifiutata è diventata pietra angolare;

And have ye not read this scripture: The stone which the builders rejected is placed as the head of the corner;

11 c iò è stato fatto dal Signore, ed è una cosa meravigliosa ai nostri occhi” ?»

This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

12 E ssi cercavano di prenderlo, ma ebbero paura della folla; perché capirono che egli aveva detto quella parabola per loro. E, lasciatolo, se ne andarono. Il tributo a Cesare

And they sought to lay hold on him but feared the multitude, for they understood that he had spoken the parable against them, and leaving him, they went away.

13 G li mandarono alcuni farisei ed erodiani per coglierlo in fallo nel parlare.

¶ And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to catch him in his words.

14 A rrivati, gli dissero: «Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu sei sincero e che non hai riguardi per nessuno, perché non badi all’apparenza delle persone, ma insegni la via di Dio secondo verità. È lecito, o no, pagare il tributo a Cesare? Dobbiamo pagare o non dobbiamo pagare?»

And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth who regards no man; for thou dost not look upon the appearance of men, but dost with truth teach the way of God; is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?

15 M a egli, conoscendo la loro ipocrisia, disse loro: «Perché mi tentate? Portatemi un denaro, ché io lo veda».

Shall we give or shall we not give? Then he, understanding their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? Bring me the coin that I may see it.

16 E ssi glielo portarono ed egli disse loro: «Di chi è questa effigie e questa iscrizione?» Essi gli dissero: «Di Cesare».

And they brought it. And he said unto them, Of whom is this image and inscription? And they said unto him, Of Caesar.

17 A llora Gesù disse loro: «Rendete a Cesare quel che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio». Ed essi rimasero completamente meravigliati di lui. Dibattito sulla risurrezione

And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Render that which is of Caesar unto Caesar, and that which is of God unto God. And they marvelled at this.

18 P oi vennero a lui dei sadducei, i quali dicono che non vi è risurrezione, e gli domandarono:

¶ Then come unto him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

19 « Maestro, Mosè ci lasciò scritto che se il fratello di uno muore e lascia la moglie senza figli, il fratello ne prenda la moglie e dia una discendenza a suo fratello.

Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother dies and leaves his wife behind him and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife and raise up seed unto his brother.

20 C ’erano sette fratelli. Il primo prese moglie; morì e non lasciò discendenti.

Now there were seven brethren, and the first took a wife and dying left no seed.

21 I l secondo la prese e morì senza lasciare discendenti. Così il terzo.

And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed; and the third likewise.

22 I sette non lasciarono discendenti. Infine, dopo tutti loro, morì anche la donna.

And the seven had her and left no seed; last of all the woman died also.

23 N ella risurrezione, {quando saranno risuscitati,} di chi di loro sarà ella moglie? Perché tutti e sette l’hanno avuta in moglie».

In the resurrection, therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

24 G esù disse loro: «Non errate voi proprio perché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio?

Then Jesus, answering, said unto them, Do ye not therefore err because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

25 I nfatti, quando gli uomini risuscitano dai morti, né prendono né danno moglie, ma sono come angeli nel cielo.

For when they shall rise from the dead, neither shall they marry nor husbands take women nor women, husbands; but are as the angels who are in the heavens.

26 Q uanto poi ai morti e alla loro risurrezione, non avete letto nel libro di Mosè, nel passo del pruno, come Dio gli parlò dicendo: “Io sono il Dio di Abraamo, il Dio di Isacco e il Dio di Giacobbe” ?

And regarding the dead who are to rise, have ye not read in the book of Moses how in the bush God spoke unto him, saying, I Am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob?

27 E gli non è Dio dei morti, ma dei viventi. Voi errate di molto». Il gran comandamento

He is not God of the dead, but God of the living; ye therefore do greatly err.

28 U no degli scribi che li aveva uditi discutere, visto che egli aveva risposto bene a loro, si avvicinò e gli domandò: «Qual è il primo di tutti i comandamenti?»

¶ And one of the scribes came, having heard their dispute and knowing that he had given a good response unto them, asked him, Which is the principal commandment of all?

29 G esù rispose: «Il primo è: “Ascolta, Israele: il Signore, nostro Dio, è l’unico Signore.

And Jesus responded unto him, The principal of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one;

30 A ma dunque il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta l’anima tua, con tutta la mente tua e con tutta la forza tua”.

and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy thought and with all thy strength: this is the principal commandment.

31 I l secondo è questo: “Ama il tuo prossimo come te stesso”. Non c’è nessun altro comandamento maggiore di questi».

And the second is like it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

32 L o scriba gli disse: «Bene, Maestro! Tu hai detto, secondo verità, che egli è l’unico e che non v’è alcun altro all’infuori di lui;

Then the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth, that God is one, and there is none other outside of him;

33 e che amarlo con tutto il cuore, con tutto l’intelletto, con tutta la forza, e amare il prossimo come se stesso, è molto più di tutti gli olocausti e i sacrifici».

and to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the soul and with all the strength and to love his neighbour as himself is more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices.

34 G esù, vedendo che aveva risposto con intelligenza, gli disse: «Tu non sei lontano dal regno di Dio». E nessuno osava più interrogarlo. Gesù interroga i farisei

Then Jesus, seeing that he responded wisely, said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that dared ask him any question.

35 G esù, mentre insegnava nel tempio, disse: «Come mai gli scribi dicono che il Cristo è Figlio di Davide?

¶ And answering, Jesus said, while he taught in the temple, How do the scribes say that the Christ is Son of David?

36 D avide stesso disse per lo Spirito Santo: “Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: ‘Siedi alla mia destra, finché io abbia messo i tuoi nemici sotto i tuoi piedi’”.

For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

37 D avide stesso lo chiama Signore; come può quindi essere suo figlio?» E {la} gran folla lo ascoltava con piacere.

David therefore himself calls him Lord, and where then is he his son? And the many people heard him gladly.

38 N el suo insegnamento egli diceva: «Guardatevi dagli scribi, che amano passeggiare in lunghe vesti, i saluti nelle piazze,

And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing and love the salutations in the marketplaces

39 i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe e i primi posti nei conviti;

and the first chairs in the synagogues and the first seats at the suppers,

40 c he divorano le case delle vedove e fanno lunghe preghiere per mettersi in mostra. Costoro riceveranno una maggiore condanna». L’offerta della vedova

which devour widows’ houses and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater judgment.

41 E sedutosi di fronte alla cassa delle offerte, guardava come la gente metteva denaro nella cassa; molti ricchi ne mettevano assai.

¶ And with Jesus sitting in front of the ark of the offering, he beheld how the people cast money into the ark and many that were rich cast in much.

42 V enuta una povera vedova, vi mise due spiccioli, che fanno un quarto di soldo.

And as there came a certain poor widow, she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 G esù, chiamati a sé i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «In verità io vi dico che questa povera vedova ha messo nella cassa delle offerte più di tutti gli altri:

Then calling his disciples, he said unto them, Verily I say unto you that this poor widow has cast more in than all those who have cast into the treasury,

44 p oiché tutti vi hanno gettato del loro superfluo, ma lei, nella sua povertà, vi ha messo tutto ciò che possedeva, tutto quanto aveva per vivere».

for they all did cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
