¶ Now the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, (for he was the firstborn, but because he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given unto the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel; and he was not counted as the firstborn.

2 p erché Giuda ebbe la prevalenza tra i suoi fratelli, e da lui è disceso il principe; ma il diritto di primogenitura appartiene a Giuseppe.

For Judah prevailed above his brethren and was their prince, but the birthright was Joseph’s:)

3 I figli di Ruben, primogenito d’Israele, furono: Canoc, Pallu, Chesron e Carmi.

The sons, therefore, of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, were Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi.

4 I l figlio di Ioel fu Semaia, che ebbe per figlio Gog, che ebbe per figlio Simei,

The sons of Joel: Shemaiah, his son, Gog, his son, Shimei, his son,

5 c he ebbe per figlio Mica, che ebbe per figlio Reaia, che ebbe per figlio Baal,

Micah, his son, Reaia, his son, Baal, his son,

6 c he ebbe per figlio Beera, che Tiglat-Pileser, re d’Assiria, deportò. Egli era capo dei Rubeniti.

Beerah, his son, whom Tilgathpilneser, king of Assyria, carried away captive. He was prince of the Reubenites.

7 I fratelli di Beera, secondo le loro famiglie, come sono iscritti nelle genealogie, secondo le loro generazioni, furono: il primo, Ieiel; poi Zaccaria,

And his brethren by their families, when the genealogy of their generations was reckoned, had as princes, Jeiel and Zechariah.

8 p oi Bela, figlio di Azaz, figlio di Sema, figlio di Ioel. Bela risiedeva ad Aroer e si estendeva fino a Nebo e a Baal-Meon;

And Bela, the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, dwelt in Aroer, even until Nebo and Baalmeon.

9 a oriente occupava il paese dal fiume Eufrate sino all’entrata del deserto, perché aveva gran quantità di bestiame nel paese di Galaad.

And eastward he inhabited unto the entering in of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their livestock were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

10 A l tempo di Saul i discendenti di Bela mossero guerra agli Agareni, che caddero nelle loro mani; e quelli si stabilirono nelle loro tende, su tutto il lato orientale di Galaad.

And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand, and they dwelt in their tents throughout all the east land of Gilead.

11 I figli di Gad abitavano di fronte a loro nel paese di Basan, fino a Salca.

And the sons of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan unto Salchah.

12 I oel fu il primo, Safam il secondo; poi Ianai e Safat in Basan.

Joel, the chief, and Shapham, second, and Jaanai and Shaphat in Bashan.

13 I loro fratelli, secondo le loro case patriarcali, furono: Micael, Mesullam, Seba, Iorai, Iacan, Zia ed Eber; sette in tutto.

And their brethren of the house of their fathers were Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jachan, Zia, and Heber, seven.

14 E ssi erano figli di Abiail, figlio di Uri, figlio di Iaroa, figlio di Galaad, figlio di Micael, figlio di Iesisai, figlio di Iado, figlio di Buz.

These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz.

15 A i, figlio di Abdiel, figlio di Guni, era il capo della loro casa patriarcale.

Also Ahi, the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was the prince of the house of their fathers.

16 A bitavano nel paese di Galaad e di Basan e nelle città che ne dipendevano, e in tutti i pascoli di Saron fino ai loro estremi limiti.

And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan and in her towns and in all the suburbs of Sharon, upon their goings forth.

17 T utti furono iscritti nelle genealogie al tempo di Iotam, re di Giuda, e al tempo di Geroboamo, re d’Israele.

All these were reckoned by their generations in the days of Jotham, king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, king of Israel.

18 I figli di Ruben, i Gaditi e la mezza tribù di Manasse avevano uomini coraggiosi che portavano scudo e spada, tiravano d’arco ed erano addestrati alla guerra, in numero di quarantaquattromilasettecentosessanta capaci di combattere.

¶ The sons of Reuben and of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh, valiant men, men able to bear buckler and sword and to shoot with bow and skillful in war were forty-four thousand seven hundred and sixty, that went out to the war.

19 E ssi mossero guerra agli Agareni, a Ietur, a Nafis e a Nodab.

And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur and Nephish and Nodab.

20 F urono soccorsi combattendo contro di loro, e gli Agareni e tutti quelli che erano con essi furono dati loro nelle mani, perché durante il combattimento essi gridarono a Dio, che li esaudì, perché avevano confidato in lui.

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand and all that were with them, for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them because they put their trust in him.

21 E ssi presero il bestiame dei vinti: cinquantamila cammelli, duecentocinquantamila pecore, duemila asini e centomila persone.

And they took away their livestock; fifty thousand camels and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep and two thousand asses and one hundred thousand persons.

22 M olti ne caddero uccisi, perché quella guerra proveniva da Dio. E si stabilirono nel luogo di quelli, fino alla deportazione.

For there fell down many slain because the war was of God. And they dwelt in their steads until the captivity.

23 I figli della mezza tribù di Manasse abitarono anch’essi in quel paese, da Basan fino a Baal-Ermon e a Senir e al monte Ermon. Erano numerosi,

And the sons of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land; they increased from Bashan unto Baalhermon and Senir and unto Mount Hermon.

24 e questi sono i capi delle loro case patriarcali: Efer, Isi, Eliel, Azriel, Geremia, Odaiva, Iadiel, uomini forti e valorosi, di grande notorietà, capi delle loro case patriarcali.

And these were the heads of the houses of their fathers: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, and heads of the houses of their fathers.

25 M a furono infedeli al Dio dei loro padri e si prostituirono andando dietro agli dèi dei popoli del paese, che Dio aveva distrutti davanti a loro.

But they rebelled against the God of their fathers and fornicated after the gods of the people of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

26 I l Dio d’Israele eccitò lo spirito di Pul, re d’Assiria, e lo spirito di Tiglat-Pileser, re d’Assiria; e Tiglat-Pileser deportò i Rubeniti, i Gaditi e la mezza tribù di Manasse, e li condusse a Calac, a Cabor, ad Ara e presso il fiume di Gozan, dove sono rimasti fino a oggi.

And for this the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul, king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgathpilneser, king of Assyria, and he carried away the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh and brought them unto Halah and Habor and Hara and to the River Gozan, unto this day.
