1 « Non giudicate, affinché non siate giudicati;

¶ Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 p erché con il giudizio con il quale giudicate, sarete giudicati; e con la misura con la quale misurate, sarà misurato a voi.

For with the judgment with which ye judge, ye shall be judged, and with the measure with which ye measure, ye shall be measured again.

3 P erché guardi la pagliuzza che è nell’occhio di tuo fratello, mentre non scorgi la trave che è nell’occhio tuo?

And why dost thou behold the mote that is in thy brother’s eye but dost not consider the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 O come potrai tu dire a tuo fratello: “Lascia che io ti tolga dall’occhio la pagliuzza”, mentre la trave è nell’occhio tuo?

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 I pocrita! Togli prima dal tuo occhio la trave, e allora ci vedrai bene per togliere la pagliuzza dall’occhio di tuo fratello.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou be able to see to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

6 N on date ciò che è santo ai cani e non gettate le vostre perle davanti ai porci, perché non le pestino con le zampe e, rivolti contro di voi, non vi sbranino. La preghiera e il suo esaudimento

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet and turn again and rend you.

7 « Chiedete e vi sarà dato; cercate e troverete; bussate e vi sarà aperto;

¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you;

8 p erché chiunque chiede riceve; chi cerca trova, e sarà aperto a chi bussa.

for every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened.

9 Q ual è l’uomo tra di voi, il quale, se il figlio gli chiede un pane, gli dia una pietra?

Or what man is there of you, whom, if his son asks for bread, will he give him a stone?

10 O ppure, se gli chiede un pesce, gli dia un serpente?

Or if he asks for fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 S e dunque voi, che siete malvagi, sapete dare buoni doni ai vostri figli, quanto più il Padre vostro, che è nei cieli, darà cose buone a quelli che gliele domandano! La regola per eccellenza; le due vie

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those that ask him?

12 « Tutte le cose dunque che voi volete che gli uomini vi facciano, fatele anche voi a loro; perché questa è la legge e i profeti.

¶ Therefore, all things whatsoever ye desire that men should do unto you, so also shall ye do unto them, for this is the law and the prophets.

13 E ntrate per la porta stretta, poiché larga è la porta e spaziosa la via che conduce alla perdizione, e molti sono quelli che entrano per essa.

Enter ye in at the narrow gate, for the way that leads to destruction is wide and spacious, and those who follow it are many;

14 Q uanto stretta è la porta e angusta la via che conduce alla vita! E pochi sono quelli che la trovano. I falsi profeti

because narrow is the gate, and confined is the way which leads unto life, and there are few that find it.

15 « Guardatevi dai falsi profeti i quali vengono verso di voi in vesti da pecore, ma dentro sono lupi rapaci.

¶ Keep yourselves also from the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 L i riconoscerete dai loro frutti. Si raccoglie forse uva dalle spine, o fichi dai rovi?

Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 C osì, ogni albero buono fa frutti buoni, ma l’albero cattivo fa frutti cattivi.

Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.

18 U n albero buono non può fare frutti cattivi, né un albero cattivo far frutti buoni.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 O gni albero che non fa buon frutto è tagliato e gettato nel fuoco.

Every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.

20 L i riconoscerete dunque dai loro frutti.

So that by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 « Non chiunque mi dice: “Signore, Signore!” entrerà nel regno dei cieli, ma chi fa la volontà del Padre mio che è nei cieli.

¶ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in the heavens.

22 M olti mi diranno in quel giorno: “Signore, Signore, non abbiamo noi profetizzato in nome tuo e in nome tuo cacciato demòni e fatto in nome tuo molte opere potenti?”

Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 A llora dichiarerò loro: “Io non vi ho mai conosciuti; allontanatevi da me, malfattori! ” Le due case

And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 « Perciò chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e le mette in pratica sarà paragonato a un uomo avveduto che ha costruito la sua casa sopra la roccia.

Therefore, whosoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him unto a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock;

25 L a pioggia è caduta, sono venuti i torrenti, i venti hanno soffiato e hanno investito quella casa; ma essa non è caduta, perché era fondata sulla roccia.

and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded upon a rock.

26 E chiunque ascolta queste mie parole e non le mette in pratica sarà paragonato a un uomo stolto che ha costruito la sua casa sulla sabbia.

And every one that hears these words of mine and does not do them shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand;

27 L a pioggia è caduta, sono venuti i torrenti, i venti hanno soffiato e hanno fatto impeto contro quella casa, ed essa è caduta e la sua rovina è stata grande».

and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.

28 Q uando Gesù ebbe finito questi discorsi, la folla si stupiva del suo insegnamento,

And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these words, the multitude marvelled at his doctrine;

29 p erché egli insegnava loro come uno che ha autorità e non come i loro scribi.

for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes.
