1 C hi ama la correzione ama la scienza, ma chi odia la riprensione è uno stupido.

¶ Whosoever loves chastening loves knowledge, but he that hates reproof is carnal.

2 L ’uomo buono ottiene il favore del Signore, ma il Signore condanna l’uomo pieno di malizia.

¶ The good man shall attain the favour of the LORD, but the man of wicked thoughts he will condemn.

3 L ’uomo non diventa stabile con l’iniquità, ma la radice dei giusti non sarà mai smossa.

¶ Man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

4 L a donna virtuosa è la corona del marito, ma quella che fa vergogna gli è un tarlo nelle ossa.

¶ The virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

5 I pensieri dei giusti sono equità, ma i disegni degli empi sono frode.

¶ The thoughts of the righteous are upright, but the astuteness of the wicked is deceit.

6 L e parole degli empi insidiano la vita, ma la bocca degli uomini retti procura la liberazione.

¶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

7 G li empi, una volta rovesciati, non sono più, ma la casa dei giusti rimane in piedi.

¶ God shall overthrow the wicked, and they shall not be any longer, but the house of the righteous shall remain.

8 L ’uomo è lodato in proporzione al suo senno, ma chi ha il cuore pervertito sarà disprezzato.

¶ A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

9 È meglio essere in umile stato e avere un servo, che fare il borioso e mancar di pane.

¶ He that despises himself and becomes a slave is better than he that honours himself and lacks bread.

10 I l giusto ha cura della vita del suo bestiame, ma il cuore degli empi è crudele.

¶ The righteous is merciful even unto his beast, but the piety of the wicked is cruel.

11 C hi coltiva la sua terra avrà pane da saziarsi, ma chi va dietro ai fannulloni è privo di senno.

¶ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

12 L ’empio agogna la preda dei malvagi, ma la radice dei giusti porta il suo frutto.

¶ The wicked desires the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous shall yield fruit.

13 N el peccato delle labbra sta un’insidia funesta, ma il giusto sfuggirà a tale afflizione.

¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of the tribulation.

14 P er il frutto della sua bocca l’uomo è saziato di beni, e a ognuno è reso secondo l’opera delle sue mani.

¶ Man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

15 L a via dello stolto è diritta ai suoi occhi, ma chi ascolta i consigli è saggio.

¶ The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hears counsel is wise.

16 L o stolto lascia scorgere subito il suo cruccio, ma chi dissimula un affronto è uomo prudente.

¶ A fool’s wrath is presently known, but he who covers the injury is sane.

17 C hi dice la verità proclama ciò che è giusto, ma il falso testimone parla con inganno.

¶ He that speaks truth shows forth righteousness, but a false witness, deceit.

18 C ’è chi, parlando senza riflettere, trafigge come spada, ma la lingua dei saggi procura guarigione.

¶ There are those that speak like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is medicine.

19 I l labbro veritiero è stabile per sempre, ma la lingua bugiarda non dura che un istante.

¶ The lip of truth shall be established for ever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

20 L ’inganno è nel cuore di chi trama il male, ma per chi nutre propositi di pace c’è gioia.

¶ Deceit is in the heart of those whose thoughts are evil, but joy in that of those whose thoughts are good.

21 N essun male colpisce il giusto, ma gli empi sono pieni di guai.

¶ No iniquity shall overtake the righteous: but the wicked shall be filled with evil.

22 L e labbra bugiarde sono un abominio per il Signore, ma quelli che agiscono con sincerità gli sono graditi.

¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but the workers of the truth are his delight.

23 L ’uomo accorto nasconde quello che sa, ma il cuore degli stolti proclama la loro follia.

¶ The sane man conceals his wisdom: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

24 L a mano dei diligenti dominerà, ma la pigra sarà tributaria.

¶ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the negligent shall be under tribute.

25 L a sofferenza del cuore abbatte l’uomo, ma la parola buona lo rallegra.

¶ Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad.

26 I l giusto indica la strada al suo compagno, ma la via degli empi li fa smarrire.

¶ The righteous causes his neighbour to consider: but the way of the wicked causes them to err.

27 I l pigro non arrostisce la sua selvaggina, ma l’operosità è per l’uomo un tesoro prezioso.

¶ The deceitful man does not even roast that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

28 N el sentiero della giustizia sta la vita, e nella via che essa traccia non c’è morte.

¶ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
