1 O Galati insensati, chi vi ha ammaliati, voi, davanti ai cui occhi Gesù Cristo è stato rappresentato crocifisso ?

¶ O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you that ye should not trust in the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

2 Q uesto soltanto desidero sapere da voi: avete ricevuto lo Spirito per mezzo delle opere della legge o mediante la predicazione della fede?

This only would I learn of you, Did ye receive the Spirit by the works of the law or by the obedient ear of faith?

3 S iete così insensati? Dopo aver cominciato con lo Spirito, volete ora raggiungere la perfezione con la carne?

Are ye so foolish? having begun by the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

4 A vete sofferto tante cose invano? Se pure è proprio invano.

Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

5 C olui dunque che vi somministra lo Spirito e opera miracoli tra di voi, lo fa per mezzo delle opere della legge o con la predicazione della fede?

He therefore that gives unto you the Spirit and does works of power among you, does he do it by the works of the law or by the obedient ear of faith?

6 C osì anche Abraamo credette a Dio e ciò gli fu messo in conto come giustizia.

¶ Even as Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

7 R iconoscete dunque che quanti hanno fede sono figli di Abraamo.

Know ye therefore that those who are of faith, the same are the sons of Abraham.

8 L a Scrittura, prevedendo che Dio avrebbe giustificato gli stranieri per fede, preannunciò ad Abraamo questa buona notizia: «In te saranno benedette tutte le nazioni».

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles through faith, evangelized Abraham in advance, saying, In thee shall all the Gentiles be blessed.

9 I n tal modo, coloro che hanno la fede sono benedetti con il credente Abraamo.

So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

10 I nfatti tutti quelli che si basano sulle opere della legge sono sotto maledizione, perché è scritto: «Maledetto chiunque non si attiene a tutte le cose scritte nel libro della legge per metterle in pratica ».

For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

11 E che nessuno mediante la legge sia giustificato davanti a Dio è evidente, perché il giusto vivrà per fede.

But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident, for The just shall live by faith.

12 M a la legge non si basa sulla fede; anzi essa dice: «Chi avrà messo in pratica queste cose, vivrà per mezzo di esse».

And the law is not of faith, but The man that does the commandments shall live by them.

13 C risto ci ha riscattati dalla maledizione della legge, essendo divenuto maledizione per noi (poiché sta scritto: «Maledetto chiunque è appeso al legno» ),

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree),

14 a ffinché la benedizione di Abraamo venisse sugli stranieri in Cristo Gesù, e ricevessimo, per mezzo della fede, lo Spirito promesso. La legge e la promessa

That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15 F ratelli, io parlo secondo le usanze degli uomini: quando un testamento è stato validamente concluso, pur essendo soltanto un atto umano, nessuno lo annulla o vi aggiunge qualcosa.

Brethren, (I speak after the manner of men) Even when a covenant is of man, once it is confirmed, no one cancels it or adds to it.

16 L e promesse furono fatte ad Abraamo e alla sua progenie. Non dice: «E alle progenie», come se si trattasse di molte; ma, come parlando di una sola, dice: «E alla tua progenie», che è Cristo.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He did not say, And to seeds, as of many, but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

17 E cco quello che voglio dire: un testamento che Dio ha stabilito anteriormente, non può essere annullato, in modo da render vana la promessa, dalla legge sopraggiunta quattrocentotrent’anni più tardi.

And this I say that regarding the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot cancel it, that it should make the promise of no effect.

18 P erché se l’eredità viene dalla legge, essa non viene più dalla promessa; Dio, invece, concesse questa grazia ad Abraamo, mediante la promessa.

For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

19 P erché dunque la legge? Essa fu aggiunta a causa delle trasgressioni, finché venisse la progenie alla quale era stata fatta la promessa; e fu promulgata per mezzo di angeli, per mano di un mediatore.

¶ For what then serves the law? It was added because of rebellions until the seed should come to whom the promise was made, and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

20 O ra, un mediatore non è mediatore di uno solo; Dio invece è uno solo.

Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

21 L a legge è dunque contraria alle promesse {di Dio}? No di certo; perché se fosse stata data una legge capace di produrre la vita, allora sì, la giustizia sarebbe venuta dalla legge;

Is the law then against the promises of God? No, in no wise, for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 m a la Scrittura ha rinchiuso ogni cosa sotto peccato, affinché i beni promessi sulla base della fede in Gesù Cristo fossero dati ai credenti.

But the scripture has concluded all under sin that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to the believers.

23 M a prima che venisse la fede eravamo tenuti rinchiusi sotto la custodia della legge, in attesa della fede che doveva essere rivelata.

But before faith came, we were under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24 C osì la legge è stata come un precettore per condurci a Cristo, affinché noi fossimo giustificati per fede.

Therefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 M a ora che la fede è venuta, non siamo più sotto precettore;

But when faith is come, we are no longer under the hand of the schoolmaster.

26 p erché siete tutti figli di Dio per la fede in Cristo Gesù.

For ye are all sons of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

27 I nfatti voi tutti che siete stati battezzati in Cristo vi siete rivestiti di Cristo.

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

28 N on c’è qui né Giudeo né Greco; non c’è né schiavo né libero; non c’è né maschio né femmina; perché voi tutti siete uno in Cristo Gesù.

Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

29 S e siete di Cristo, siete dunque discendenza di Abraamo, eredi secondo la promessa.

And if ye are Christ’s, then ye are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
