1 « Non sacrificherai al Signore, tuo Dio, bue o pecora che abbia qualche difetto o qualche deformità, perché sarebbe cosa abominevole per il Signore tuo Dio.

¶ Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock or sheep in which there is a blemish or anything wrong, for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

2 « Se in mezzo a te, in una delle città che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti dà, si troverà un uomo o una donna che fa ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore tuo Dio, trasgredendo il suo patto,

If there is found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God gives thee, man or woman that has wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God in transgressing his covenant

3 c he segue altri dèi per servirli e prostrarsi davanti a loro, davanti al sole o alla luna o a tutto l’esercito celeste, cosa che io non ho comandato,

and has gone and served other gods and worshipped them or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded,

4 q uando ciò ti sarà riferito e tu l’avrai saputo, fa’ un’accurata indagine; se è vero, se il fatto sussiste, se una tale abominazione è stata realmente commessa in Israele,

and it is told unto thee and thou hast heard of it and enquired diligently, and, behold, it is true, and the thing certain that such abomination is wrought in Israel,

5 f arai condurre alle porte della tua città quell’uomo o quella donna che avrà commesso quell’atto malvagio e lapiderai a morte quell’uomo o quella donna.

then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman who has committed that wicked thing unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones until they die.

6 I l condannato sarà messo a morte in base alla deposizione di due o di tre testimoni; non sarà messo a morte in base alla deposizione di un solo testimone.

At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses shall he that is worthy of death be put to death, but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

7 L a mano dei testimoni sarà la prima a levarsi contro di lui per farlo morire, poi la mano di tutto il popolo; così toglierai via il male di mezzo a te. Ubbidienza alle autorità

The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

8 « Quando il giudizio di una causa sarà troppo difficile per te, sia che si tratti di un omicidio o di una controversia o di un ferimento, ed è motivo di contestazione nella tua città, ti alzerai e salirai al luogo che il Signore, il tuo Dio, avrà scelto;

¶ If a matter arises that is too difficult for thee in judgment between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates, then thou shalt arise and go up into the place which the LORD thy God shall choose,

9 a ndrai dai sacerdoti levitici e dal giudice in carica a quel tempo; li consulterai ed essi ti faranno conoscere ciò che dice il diritto;

and thou shalt come unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days and enquire, and they shall show thee the word of judgment.

10 t u ti conformerai a quello che essi ti dichiareranno nel luogo che il Signore avrà scelto, e avrai cura di fare tutto quello che ti avranno prescritto.

And thou shalt do according to the word which those of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show thee; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall show thee.

11 T i conformerai alla legge che essi ti avranno insegnata e alle sentenze che avranno pronunciate; non devierai da quello che ti avranno insegnato, né a destra né a sinistra.

According to the word of the law which they shall show thee and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not decline from the word which they shall show thee, to the right hand nor to the left.

12 L ’uomo che avrà la presunzione di non dare ascolto al sacerdote che sta là per servire il Signore, il tuo Dio, o al giudice, quell’uomo morirà; così toglierai via il male da Israele,

And the man that will act presumptuously and will not hearken unto the priest that stands to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die; and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

13 e tutto il popolo udrà la cosa, temerà e non agirà più con presunzione. Elezione e doveri dei re

And all the people shall hear and fear and no longer act presumptuously.

14 « Quando sarai entrato nel paese che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti dà e ne avrai preso possesso e lo abiterai, forse dirai: “Voglio avere un re come tutte le nazioni che mi circondano”.

¶ When thou art come unto the land which the LORD thy God gives thee and shalt inherit it and shalt dwell therein and shalt say, I will set a king over me like all the Gentiles that are round about me;

15 A llora dovrai mettere su di te come re colui che il Signore, il tuo Dio, avrà scelto. Metterai su di te come re uno del tuo popolo; non metterai come re uno straniero che non sia del tuo popolo.

Thou shalt surely appoint as king over thee the one whom the LORD thy God shall choose; one from among thy brethren shalt thou set as king over thee; thou may not set a stranger over thee, who is not thy brother.

16 P erò non dovrà avere molti cavalli e non dovrà ricondurre il popolo in Egitto per procurarseli, poiché il Signore vi ha detto: “Non rifarete mai più quella via”.

Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses; for the LORD has said unto you, Ye shall not procure to return any more to that way.

17 N on dovrà neppure avere molte mogli, affinché non perverta il suo cuore; neppure dovrà avere grande quantità d’argento e d’oro.

Neither shall he multiply wives unto himself, that his heart turn not away; neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver or gold.

18 E quando si insedierà sul suo trono reale, scriverà per suo uso, in un libro, una copia di questa legge secondo l’esemplare dei sacerdoti levitici.

And it shall be when he sits upon the throne of his kingdom that he shall cause a copy of this second law to be written in a book in the presence of the priests the Levites;

19 T errà il libro presso di sé e lo leggerà tutti i giorni della sua vita, per imparare a temere il Signore, il suo Dio, a mettere diligentemente in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge e tutte queste prescrizioni,

and it shall be near unto him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them,

20 a ffinché il suo cuore non si elevi al di sopra dei suoi fratelli ed egli non devii da questi comandamenti né a destra né a sinistra. Così prolungherà i suoi giorni nel suo regno, egli con i suoi figli, in mezzo a Israele.

that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand or to the left, to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
