1 « “Non vi farete e non metterete in piedi né idoli, né sculture, né monumenti. Nel vostro paese non rizzerete pietre scolpite per prostrarvi davanti a loro, poiché io sono il Signore vostro Dio.

¶ Ye shall make no idols for yourselves nor graven image, neither shall you raise up a title, neither shall ye place any painted stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I AM your God.

2 O sserverete i miei sabati e porterete rispetto al mio santuario. Io sono il Signore.

Keep my sabbaths and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD.

3 S e vi comportate secondo le mie leggi, se osservate i miei comandamenti e li mettete in pratica,

If ye walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them,

4 i o vi darò le piogge nella loro stagione, la terra darà i suoi prodotti e gli alberi della campagna daranno i loro frutti.

then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

5 L a trebbiatura vi durerà fino alla vendemmia, e la vendemmia vi durerà fino alla semina; mangerete a sazietà il vostro pane e vivrete sicuri nel vostro paese.

And your threshing shall last unto the vintage, and the vintage shall last unto the sowing time; and ye shall eat your bread to the full and dwell in your land safely.

6 I o farò sì che la pace regni nel paese; voi vi coricherete e non ci sarà chi vi spaventi; farò sparire dal paese le bestie feroci e la spada non passerà per il vostro paese.

For I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and no one shall make you afraid; and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

7 V oi inseguirete i vostri nemici ed essi cadranno davanti a voi per la spada.

And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8 C inque di voi ne inseguiranno cento, cento di voi ne inseguiranno diecimila, e i vostri nemici cadranno davanti a voi per la spada.

And five of you shall chase one hundred, and one hundred of you shall put ten thousands to flight; and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

9 I o mi volgerò verso di voi, vi renderò fecondi e vi moltiplicherò e manterrò il mio patto con voi.

For I will return unto you and make you fruitful and multiply you and establish my covenant with you.

10 V oi mangerete il raccolto dell’anno precedente e, quando sarà vecchio, lo tirerete fuori per fare posto a quello nuovo.

And ye shall eat old store and bring forth the old because of the new.

11 I o stabilirò la mia dimora in mezzo a voi e non vi detesterò.

And I will set my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.

12 C amminerò tra di voi, sarò vostro Dio e voi sarete mio popolo.

And I will walk among you and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

13 I o sono il Signore vostro Dio; vi ho fatto uscire dal paese d’Egitto per liberarvi dalla schiavitù; ho spezzato il vostro giogo e vi ho fatto camminare a testa alta. Maledizioni

I AM your God, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their slaves; and I have broken the bands of your yoke and made you walk with your faces uplifted.

14 « “Ma se non mi date ascolto e se non mettete in pratica tutti questi comandamenti,

¶ But if ye will not hearken unto me and will not do all these my commandments;

15 s e disprezzate le mie leggi e detestate le mie prescrizioni non mettendo in pratica tutti i miei comandamenti e così rompete il mio patto,

and if ye shall despise my statutes or if your soul should abhor my rights so that ye will not do all my commandments but that ye break my covenant,

16 e cco quel che vi farò a mia volta: manderò contro di voi il terrore, la consunzione e la febbre, che annebbieranno i vostri occhi e consumeranno la vostra vita, e seminerete invano la vostra semenza: la mangeranno i vostri nemici.

I also will do this unto you: I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague that shall consume the eyes and torment the soul, and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

17 V olgerò la mia faccia contro di voi e voi sarete sconfitti dai vostri nemici; quelli che vi odiano vi domineranno e vi darete alla fuga senza che nessuno vi insegua.

And I will place my wrath upon you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies; those that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when no one pursues you.

18 S e nemmeno dopo questo vorrete darmi ascolto, io vi castigherò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

19 S pezzerò la superbia della vostra forza, farò in modo che il vostro cielo sia come di ferro e la vostra terra come di bronzo.

And I will break the pride of your stronghold, and I will make your heaven as iron and your earth as bronze.

20 L a vostra forza si consumerà invano, poiché la vostra terra non darà i suoi prodotti e gli alberi della campagna non daranno i loro frutti.

And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

21 E se mi resistete con la vostra condotta e non volete darmi ascolto, io vi colpirò sette volte di più, secondo i vostri peccati.

And if ye walk contrary unto me and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

22 M anderò contro di voi le bestie feroci, che vi rapiranno i figli, stermineranno il vostro bestiame, vi ridurranno a un piccolo numero, e le vostre strade diventeranno deserte.

I will also send wild beasts among you which shall rapture your children and destroy your animals and make you few in number, and your ways shall be desolate.

23 E se, nonostante questi castighi, non volete correggervi per tornare a me, ma con la vostra condotta mi resisterete, anche io vi resisterò

And if ye will not be corrected by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me,

24 e vi colpirò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

then will I also walk contrary unto you and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

25 M anderò contro di voi la spada, che farà vendetta per la trasgressione del mio patto; voi vi raccoglierete nelle vostre città, ma io manderò in mezzo a voi la peste e sarete dati in mano al nemico.

And I will bring an avenging sword upon you, in vindication of the covenant; and ye shall gather together within your cities; but I will send pestilence among you, and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

26 Q uando vi toglierò il sostegno del pane, dieci donne cuoceranno il vostro pane in uno stesso forno, vi distribuiranno il vostro pane a peso e mangerete, ma non vi sazierete.

When I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight, and ye shall eat and not be satisfied.

27 E se, nonostante tutto questo, non volete darmi ascolto, ma con la vostra condotta mi resisterete,

And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me but walk contrary unto me,

28 a nch’io vi resisterò con furore e vi castigherò sette volte di più per i vostri peccati.

then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury, and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

29 M angerete la carne dei vostri figli e delle vostre figlie.

And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

30 I o distruggerò i vostri alti luoghi, spezzerò le vostre statue consacrate al sole, ammucchierò i vostri cadaveri sui resti dei vostri idoli e vi detesterò.

And I will destroy your high places and cut down your images and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

31 R idurrò le vostre città a deserti, desolerò i vostri santuari e non aspirerò più il soave odore dei vostri profumi.

And I will make your cities waste and bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the aroma of your suave incense.

32 D esolerò il paese; e i vostri nemici che vi abiteranno ne saranno stupefatti.

And I will bring the land into desolation, and your enemies who dwell therein shall be astonished at it.

33 E , quanto a voi, io vi disperderò fra le nazioni e vi inseguirò a spada tratta; il vostro paese sarà desolato e le vostre città saranno deserte.

And I will scatter you among the Gentiles and will draw out a sword after you, and your land shall be desolate and your cities waste.

34 A llora la terra si godrà i suoi sabati per tutto il tempo che rimarrà desolata e che voi sarete nel paese dei vostri nemici; allora la terra si riposerà e si godrà i suoi sabati.

Then shall the land rest for her sabbaths all the days that it lies desolate, while you are in your enemies’ land; even then shall the land rest and enjoy her sabbaths.

35 P er tutto il tempo che rimarrà desolata avrà il riposo che non ebbe nei vostri sabati, quando voi l’abitavate.

All the time that it shall be desolate, it shall rest that which it did not rest in your sabbaths when ye dwelt upon it.

36 Q uanto ai superstiti fra di voi, io toglierò il coraggio dal loro cuore nel paese dei loro nemici; il rumore di una foglia agitata li metterà in fuga; fuggiranno come si fugge davanti alla spada e cadranno senza che nessuno li insegua.

And upon those that are left alive of you I will send such cowardice into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, that the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursue.

37 P recipiteranno l’uno sopra l’altro come davanti alla spada, senza che nessuno li insegua, e voi non potrete resistere davanti ai vostri nemici.

And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursue; and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

38 P erirete fra le nazioni e il paese dei vostri nemici vi divorerà.

And ye shall perish among the Gentiles, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

39 I superstiti fra di voi saranno afflitti nei paesi dei loro nemici a causa delle proprie iniquità; e saranno afflitti anche a causa delle iniquità dei loro padri.

And those that are left of you shall pine away for their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and for the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

40 « “E confesseranno la loro iniquità e l’iniquità dei loro padri, l’iniquità delle trasgressioni commesse contro di me e della resistenza oppostami,

¶ And they shall confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers for their trespass which they trespassed against me and that also they have walked contrary unto me,

41 p eccati per i quali anch’io avrò dovuto resistere loro e deportarli nel paese dei loro nemici; ma allora, se il cuore loro incirconciso si umilierà e se accetteranno la punizione della loro iniquità,

and that I also have walked contrary unto them and have brought them into the land of their enemies; and then their uncircumcised hearts shall be humbled, and they shall plead because of their iniquity;

42 i o mi ricorderò del mio patto con Giacobbe, mi ricorderò del mio patto con Isacco e del mio patto con Abraamo, e mi ricorderò del paese;

and I will remember my covenant with Jacob and likewise my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember, and I will remember the land.

43 p oiché il paese sarà abbandonato da loro e si godrà i suoi sabati mentre rimarrà desolato, senza di loro. Essi sconteranno la loro colpa per aver detestato le mie prescrizioni e avere avuto in avversione le mie leggi.

That the land shall be without them and shall rest her sabbaths, being desolate because of them; and they shall plead because of their iniquity because they despised my rights and their soul abhorred my statutes.

44 M a, nonostante tutto questo, quando saranno nel paese dei loro nemici, io non li disprezzerò e non li prenderò in avversione fino al punto d’annientarli del tutto e di rompere il mio patto con loro; poiché io sono il Signore loro Dio;

And yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them to destroy them utterly and to break my covenant with them; for I AM their God.

45 m a per amor loro mi ricorderò del patto stretto con i loro antenati, che feci uscire dal paese d’Egitto, sotto gli occhi delle nazioni, per essere il loro Dio. Io sono il Signore ”».

But I will remember them because of the old covenant, when I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the Gentiles, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

46 T ali sono gli statuti, le prescrizioni e le leggi che il Signore stabilì tra sé e i figli d’Israele, sul monte Sinai, per mezzo di Mosè.

These are the statutes and rights and laws, which the LORD established between him and the sons of Israel in Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
