1 I l Signore disse a Mosè: «Taglia due tavole di pietra come le prime; e io scriverò sulle tavole le parole che erano sulle prime due tavole che hai spezzato.

¶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Hew two tables of stone like unto the first; and I will write upon these tables the words that were in the first tables, which thou didst break.

2 S ii pronto domani mattina, e sali, al mattino, sul monte Sinai e presèntati a me sulla vetta del monte.

And be ready for tomorrow and come up in the morning unto Mount Sinai and present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.

3 N essuno salga con te, e non si veda alcuno su tutto il monte; greggi e armenti non pascolino nei pressi di questo monte».

And no man shall come up with thee; neither let anyone be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the sheep nor the cows feed before the mount.

4 M osè, dunque, tagliò due tavole di pietra come le prime; si alzò la mattina di buon’ora, salì sul monte Sinai come il Signore gli aveva comandato, e prese in mano le due tavole di pietra.

And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first, and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up unto Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

5 I l Signore discese nella nuvola, si fermò con lui e proclamò il nome del Signore.

¶ And the LORD descended in a cloud and was with him there proclaiming the name of I AM.

6 I l Signore passò davanti a lui, e gridò: «Il Signore! il Signore! il Dio misericordioso e pietoso, lento all’ira, ricco in bontà e fedeltà,

And as the LORD passed by before him, he proclaimed, I AM, I AM strong, merciful, and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in mercy and truth,

7 c he conserva la sua bontà fino alla millesima generazione, che perdona l’iniquità, la trasgressione e il peccato, ma non terrà il colpevole per innocente; che punisce l’iniquità dei padri sopra i figli e sopra i figli dei figli, fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione!»

keeping mercy for thousands, letting go of iniquity and rebellion and sin; and by no means will I absolve the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons and upon the sons’ sons, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

8 M osè subito s’inchinò fino a terra e adorò.

Then Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth and worshipped.

9 P oi disse: «Ti prego, Signore, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, venga il Signore in mezzo a noi, perché questo è un popolo dal collo duro; perdona la nostra iniquità, il nostro peccato e prendici come tua eredità».

And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us, for this is a stiffnecked people, and forgive our iniquity and our sin and possess us.

10 I l Signore rispose: «Ecco, io faccio un patto: farò davanti a tutto il tuo popolo meraviglie, quali non sono mai state fatte su tutta la terra né in alcuna nazione; tutto il popolo in mezzo al quale ti trovi vedrà l’opera del Signore, perché tremendo è quello che io sto per fare per mezzo di te.

¶ And he said, Behold, I make a covenant before all thy people: I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom thou art shall see the work of the LORD; for it shall be a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

11 O sserva quello che oggi ti comando: ecco, io scaccerò davanti a te gli Amorei, i Cananei, gli Ittiti, i Ferezei, gli Ivvei e i Gebusei.

Keep that which I command thee this day; behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 G uàrdati dal fare alleanza con gli abitanti del paese nel quale stai per andare, perché non diventino, in mezzo a te, una trappola;

Keep thyself lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where thou must enter lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee;

13 m a demolite i loro altari, frantumate le loro colonne, abbattete i loro idoli;

but ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves;

14 t u non adorerai altro dio, perché il Signore, che si chiama il Geloso, è un Dio geloso.

for thou shalt worship no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.

15 G uàrdati dal fare alleanza con gli abitanti del paese, altrimenti, quando quelli si prostituiranno ai loro dèi e offriranno sacrifici ai loro dèi, potrà avvenire che essi t’invitino e tu mangi dei loro sacrifici,

Therefore thou shalt not make a covenant with the inhabitants of that land because they shall fornicate after their gods and do sacrifice unto their gods, and they shall call thee, and thou shalt eat of their sacrifices

16 p renda delle loro figlie per i tuoi figli, e le loro figlie si prostituiscano ai loro dèi e inducano i tuoi figli a prostituirsi ai loro dèi.

or take of their daughters unto thy sons, and when their daughters go fornicating after their gods they shall make thy sons also fornicate after their gods.

17 N on ti farai dèi di metallo fuso.

Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

18 « Osserverai la festa degli Azzimi. Per sette giorni, al tempo fissato del mese di Abib, mangerai pane azzimo, come ti ho ordinato; poiché nel mese di Abib tu sei uscito dall’Egitto.

¶ The feast of unleavened bread shalt thou keep. Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, as I commanded thee, in the time of the month Abib; for in the month Abib thou didst come out from Egypt.

19 O gni primogenito è mio; mio è ogni primo parto maschio di tutto il tuo bestiame: del bestiame grosso e minuto.

All that opens the womb is mine; and every firstborn among thy livestock, whether of cow or of sheep, that is male.

20 M a riscatterai con un agnello il primo nato dell’asino; e, se non lo vorrai riscattare, gli romperai il collo. Riscatterai ogni primogenito dei tuoi figli. Nessuno comparirà davanti a me a mani vuote.

But the firstborn of an ass thou shalt ransom with a lamb, and if thou ransom him not, then shalt thou cut off his head. All the firstborn of thy sons thou shalt ransom, and none shall appear before me empty.

21 L avorerai sei giorni; ma il settimo giorno ti riposerai: ti riposerai anche al tempo dell’aratura e della mietitura.

Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt cease; in ploughing time and in harvest thou shalt cease.

22 C elebrerai la festa delle Settimane, cioè delle primizie della mietitura del frumento, e la festa della Raccolta alla fine dell’anno.

And thou shalt keep the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of the reaping of the wheat, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.

23 T re volte all’anno ogni vostro maschio comparirà alla presenza del Signore Dio, che è il Dio d’Israele.

Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the GOD who is Lord of all, the God of Israel.

24 I o scaccerò davanti a te delle nazioni e allargherò i tuoi confini; nessuno oserà appropriarsi del tuo paese, quando salirai, tre volte all’anno, per comparire alla presenza del Signore, che è il tuo Dio.

For I will cast the Gentiles out of thy presence and enlarge thy borders; neither shall anyone covet thy land when thou shalt go up to be seen before the LORD thy God three times a year.

25 N on offrirai con pane lievitato il sangue della vittima immolata a me, e il sacrificio della festa di Pasqua non sarà conservato fino al mattino.

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice upon anything leavened; neither shall any of the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.

26 P orterai alla casa del Signore, il tuo Dio, le primizie dei primi frutti della tua terra. Non cuocerai il capretto nel latte di sua madre».

The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not cook a kid in his mother’s milk.

27 P oi il Signore disse a Mosè: «Scrivi queste parole; perché sul fondamento di queste parole io ho fatto un patto con te e con Israele».

And the LORD said unto Moses, Write thou these words; for according to these words I have made a covenant with thee and with Israel.

28 E Mosè rimase lì con il Signore quaranta giorni e quaranta notti; non mangiò pane e non bevve acqua. E il Signore scrisse sulle tavole le parole del patto, i dieci comandamenti. Le nuove tavole della legge

¶ And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread, nor drink water. And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

29 P oi Mosè scese dal monte Sinai. Egli aveva in mano le due tavole della testimonianza quando scese dal monte. Mosè non sapeva che la pelle del suo viso era diventata tutta raggiante mentre egli parlava con il Signore.

And it came to pass, as Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, while he came down from the mount, that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone after he had talked with him.

30 A aronne e tutti i figli d’Israele guardarono Mosè, e videro che la pelle del suo viso era tutta raggiante. Perciò ebbero paura di avvicinarsi a lui.

And when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.

31 M a Mosè li chiamò, e Aaronne e tutti i capi della comunità tornarono a lui, e Mosè parlò loro.

And Moses called them, and Aaron and all the princes of the congregation returned unto him, and Moses talked with them.

32 D opo questo, tutti i figli d’Israele si avvicinarono, ed egli impose loro tutto quello che il Signore gli aveva detto sul monte Sinai.

And afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in Mount Sinai.

33 Q uando Mosè ebbe finito di parlare con loro, si mise un velo sulla faccia.

And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.

34 M a quando Mosè entrava alla presenza del Signore per parlare con lui, si toglieva il velo, finché non tornava fuori; poi tornava fuori e diceva ai figli d’Israele quello che gli era stato comandato.

But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he would take the veil off until he came out. And as he came out, he would speak unto the sons of Israel that which he was commanded.

35 I figli d’Israele, guardando la faccia di Mosè, vedevano la sua pelle tutta raggiante; Mosè si rimetteva il velo sulla faccia, finché non entrava a parlare con il Signore.

And the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses that the skin of Moses’ face shone, and Moses would put the veil upon his face again until he would go in to speak with him.
