1 C elebrate il Signore, invocate il suo nome; fate conoscere i suoi prodigi tra i popoli.

¶ O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples.

2 C antate e salmeggiate a lui, meditate su tutte le sue meraviglie.

Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him; speak of all his wondrous works.

3 E sultate per il suo santo nome; gioisca il cuore di quanti cercano il Signore!

Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those that seek the LORD rejoice.

4 C ercate il Signore e la sua forza, cercate sempre il suo volto!

Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his face continually.

5 R icordatevi dei prodigi fatti da lui, dei suoi miracoli e dei giudizi della sua bocca,

Remember his marvellous works that he has done, his wonders and the judgments of his mouth,

6 v oi, figli di Abraamo, suo servo, discendenza di Giacobbe, suoi eletti!

O ye seed of Abraham his slave, ye sons of Jacob his chosen.

7 E gli, il Signore, è il nostro Dio; i suoi giudizi si estendono su tutta la terra.

He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

8 E gli si ricorda per sempre del suo patto, della parola da lui data per mille generazioni,

¶ He has remembered his covenant for ever, the word which he commanded for a thousand generations,

9 d el patto che fece con Abraamo, del giuramento che fece a Isacco,

which covenant he made with Abraham and his oath unto Isaac

10 c he confermò a Giacobbe come uno statuto, a Israele come un patto eterno,

and confirmed the same unto Jacob by decree, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:

11 d icendo: «Ti darò il paese di Canaan come vostra eredità».

Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,

12 N on erano allora che poca gente, pochissimi e stranieri nel paese,

when they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

13 e andavano da una nazione all’altra, da un regno a un altro popolo.

When they went from nation to nation from one kingdom to another people,

14 E gli non permise che alcuno li opprimesse; per amor loro castigò dei re,

he suffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he chastened kings for their sakes:

15 d icendo: «Non toccate i miei unti e non fate alcun male ai miei profeti».

Saying, Touch not mine anointed and do my prophets no harm.

16 P oi chiamò la carestia nel paese e fece mancare il pane che li sostentava.

Moreover he called for a famine upon the land; he broke the whole staff of bread.

17 M andò davanti a loro un uomo, Giuseppe, che fu venduto come schiavo.

He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a slave,

18 G li legarono i piedi con ceppi; fu oppresso con catene di ferro.

whose feet they hurt with fetters; his soul was laid in iron.

19 F ino al tempo in cui si avverò quanto aveva predetto, la parola del Signore lo affinò.

Until the time that his word came, the spoken word of the LORD purified him.

20 I l re lo fece slegare, il dominatore di popoli lo liberò;

The king sent and loosed him, the ruler of the people let him go free.

21 l o stabilì signore della sua casa e governatore di tutti i suoi beni,

He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his substance:

22 p er istruire i prìncipi secondo il suo giudizio e insegnare ai suoi anziani la sapienza.

To bind his princes at his pleasure and teach his elders wisdom.

23 A llora Israele venne in Egitto e Giacobbe soggiornò nel paese di Cam.

Afterwards Israel entered into Egypt, and Jacob was a stranger in the land of Ham.

24 D io moltiplicò grandemente il suo popolo e lo rese più potente dei suoi avversari.

And he increased his people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies.

25 P oi mutò il cuore di questi; essi odiarono il suo popolo e tramarono inganni contro i suoi servi.

¶ He turned their heart to hate his people to think evil against his slaves.

26 E gli mandò Mosè, suo servo, e Aaronne, che aveva scelto.

He sent Moses his slave and Aaron whom he had chosen.

27 E ssi operarono in mezzo a loro i miracoli da lui ordinati, fecero dei prodigi nella terra di Cam.

He put the words of his signs in them and his wonders in the land of Ham.

28 M andò le tenebre e si fece buio, eppure non osservarono le sue parole.

He sent darkness and made it dark, and they did not rebel against his word.

29 C ambiò le acque in sangue e fece morire i loro pesci.

He turned their waters into blood and slew their fish.

30 L a terra brulicò di rane, fin nelle camere dei loro re.

Their land brought forth frogs in abundance in the chambers of their kings.

31 E gli parlò, e vennero mosche velenose e zanzare in tutto il loro territorio.

He spoke, and swarms of flies and lice came within all their borders.

32 M andò loro grandine invece di pioggia, fiamme di fuoco sul loro paese.

He turned their rain into hail, into flaming fire in their land.

33 C olpì le loro vigne e i loro fichi e spezzò gli alberi del loro territorio.

He smote their vines also and their fig trees and broke the trees within their borders.

34 E gli parlò, e vennero cavallette e bruchi innumerevoli,

He spoke, and the locusts came and caterpillars without number,

35 c he divorarono tutta l’erba del paese e mangiarono il frutto della loro terra.

and ate up all the grass in their land and devoured the fruit of their ground.

36 P oi colpì tutti i primogeniti nel loro paese, le primizie del loro vigore.

He smote also all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.

37 E fece uscire gli Israeliti con argento e oro e nessuno vacillò nelle sue tribù.

And he brought them forth with silver and gold, and there was not one sick person among their tribes.

38 G li Egiziani si rallegrarono della loro partenza, perché erano presi da terrore a causa loro.

Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them fell upon them.

39 E gli distese una nuvola per ripararli e accese un fuoco per illuminarli di notte.

He spread a cloud for a covering and fire to give light in the night.

40 A loro richiesta fece venire delle quaglie e li saziò con il pane del cielo.

The people asked, and he brought quails and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

41 A prì la roccia e ne scaturirono acque: esse scorrevano come fiume nel deserto.

He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places and became a river.

42 E gli si ricordò della sua santa parola e anche di Abraamo, suo servo.

For he remembered his holy word with Abraham his slave.

43 F ece uscire il suo popolo con letizia e i suoi eletti con grida di gioia.

And he brought forth his people with joy and his chosen with singing

44 D iede loro le terre delle nazioni ed essi ereditarono il frutto della fatica dei popoli,

and gave them the lands of the Gentiles, and they inherited the labour of the nations,

45 p erché osservassero i suoi statuti e ubbidissero alle sue leggi. Alleluia.
