1 « Questi sono i capi delle case patriarcali e le genealogie di quanti tornarono con me da Babilonia, durante il regno del re Artaserse.

¶ These are now the heads of their fathers, and this is the genealogy of those that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes, the king:

2 D ei figli di Fineas: Ghersom; dei figli d’Itamar: Daniele; dei figli di Davide: Cattus, figlio di Secania;

Of the sons of Phinehas; Gershon: of the sons of Ithamar; Daniel: of the sons of David; Hattush.

3 d ei figli di Paros: Zaccaria, e con lui furono registrati centocinquanta uomini;

Of the sons of Shechaniah, of the sons of Pharosh; Zechariah: and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males one hundred and fifty.

4 d ei figli di Paat-Moab: Elioenai, figlio di Zeraia, e con lui duecento uomini;

Of the sons of Pahathmoab; Elihoenai, the son of Zerahiah, and with him two hundred males.

5 d ei figli di Secania: il figlio di Iaaziel, e con lui trecento uomini;

Of the sons of Shechaniah; the son of Jahaziel, and with him three hundred males.

6 d ei figli di Adin: Ebed, figlio di Ionatan, e con lui cinquanta uomini;

Of the sons also of Adin; Ebed, the son of Jonathan, and with him fifty males.

7 d ei figli di Elam: Isaia, figlio di Atalia, e con lui settanta uomini;

And of the sons of Elam; Jeshaiah, the son of Athaliah, and with him seventy males.

8 d ei figli di Sefatia: Zebadia, figlio di Micael, e con lui ottanta uomini;

And of the sons of Shephatiah; Zebadiah, the son of Michael, and with him eighty males.

9 d ei figli di Ioab: Obadia, figlio di Ieiel, e con lui duecentodiciotto uomini;

Of the sons of Joab; Obadiah, the son of Jehiel, and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

10 d ei figli di Selomit: il figlio di Iosifia, e con lui centosessanta uomini;

And of the sons of Shelomith; the son of Josiphiah, and with him one hundred and sixty males.

11 d ei figli di Bebai: Zaccaria, figlio di Bebai, e con lui ventotto uomini;

And of the sons of Bebai; Zechariah, the son of Bebai, and with him twenty-eight males.

12 d ei figli di Azgad: Iocanan, figlio di Accatan, e con lui centodieci uomini;

And of the sons of Azgad; Johanan, the son of Hakkatan, and with him one hundred and ten males.

13 d ei figli di Adonicam, gli ultimi, dei quali questi sono i nomi: Elifelet, Ieiel, Semaia, e con loro sessanta uomini;

And of the last sons of Adonikam, whose names are these: Eliphelet, Jeiel, and Shemaiah, and with them sixty males.

14 e dei figli di Bigvai: Utai e Zabbud, e con lui settanta uomini.

Of the sons also of Bigvai; Uthai and Zabbud and with them seventy males.

15 I o li radunai presso il fiume che scorre verso Aava, e là rimanemmo accampati tre giorni; e, passato in rivista il popolo e i sacerdoti, non trovai in mezzo a loro nessun discendente di Levi.

And I gathered them together to the river that runs to Ahava, and there we encamped three days, and having searched among the people and the priests, I did not find there any of the sons of Levi.

16 A llora feci chiamare i capi Eliezer, Ariel, Semaia, Elnatan, Iarib, Elnatan, Natan, Zaccaria, Mesullam, e gli istruttori Ioiarib ed Elnatan,

Then I commissioned Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah, and Meshullam, principals, also Joiarib and Elnathan, men of understanding;

17 e ordinai loro di andare da Iddo, il capo che era a Casifia, e suggerii loro le parole che dovevano dire a Iddo e ai suoi fratelli Netinei che erano a Casifia, perché ci conducessero dei servitori per la casa del nostro Dio.

and I sent them unto Iddo, the captain at the place of Casiphia, and I put words in their mouth that they should speak unto Iddo and to his brethren, the Nethinims, at the place of Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

18 S iccome la benefica mano del nostro Dio era su di noi, ci condussero Serebia, uomo intelligente, dei figli di Mali, figlio di Levi, figlio d’Israele e con lui i suoi figli e i suoi fratelli, in numero di diciotto;

And by the good hand of our God upon us, they brought us a man of understanding, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

19 C asabia, e con lui Isaia, dei figli di Merari, i suoi fratelli e i suoi figli, in numero di venti;

and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

20 e dei Netinei, che Davide e i capi avevano messo al servizio dei Leviti, duecentoventi Netinei, tutti quanti designati per nome.

also of the Nethinims, whom David and the princes had appointed for the ministry of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinims: all of them were expressed by name.

21 L aggiù presso il fiume Aava, proclamai un digiuno per umiliarci davanti al nostro Dio, per chiedergli un buon viaggio per noi, per i nostri bambini, e per tutto quello che ci apparteneva.

¶ Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us and for our little ones and for all our substance.

22 I nfatti mi vergognavo di chiedere al re una scorta armata e dei cavalieri per difenderci lungo il cammino dal nemico, poiché avevamo detto al re: “La mano del nostro Dio assiste tutti quelli che lo cercano, ma la sua potenza e la sua ira sono contro tutti quelli che l’abbandonano”.

For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to defend us against the enemy in the way because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all those that seek him for good; but his power and his wrath is against all those that forsake him.

23 C osì digiunammo e invocammo il nostro Dio a questo scopo, ed egli ci esaudì.

So we fasted and besought our God for this, and he was intreated of us.

24 A llora separai dodici dei capi dei sacerdoti: Serebia, Casabia e dieci dei loro fratelli,

¶ Then I separated twelve of the principals of the priests, Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

25 e pesai loro l’argento, l’oro, gli utensili, che erano l’offerta fatta per la casa del nostro Dio dal re, dai suoi consiglieri, dai suoi capi e da tutti gli Israeliti ivi residenti.

and weighed unto them the silver and the gold and the vessels, the offering for the house of our God, which the king and his counsellors and his princes and all those that were of Israel had offered.

26 M isi nelle loro mani seicentocinquanta talenti d’argento, degli utensili d’argento per il valore di cento talenti, cento talenti d’oro,

I weighed, therefore, unto their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver and silver vessels of one hundred talents and of gold one hundred talents;

27 v enti coppe d’oro del valore di mille darici, due vasi di bronzo lucente finissimo, prezioso come l’oro, e dissi loro:

also twenty basins of gold, of a thousand drams, and two vessels of clean brass, precious as gold.

28 “ Voi siete consacrati al Signore; questi utensili sono sacri, e quest’argento e quest’oro sono un’offerta volontaria fatta al Signore, Dio dei vostri padri.

And I said unto them, Ye are holiness unto the LORD; the vessels are holiness also; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering unto the LORD God of your fathers.

29 V igilate e custoditeli fino a quando li peserete a Gerusalemme, nelle camere della casa del Signore, in presenza dei capi dei sacerdoti, dei Leviti e dei capi delle famiglie d’Israele”.

Watch and keep them until you weigh them before the princes of the priests and the Levites and of the princes of the fathers of Israel in Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of the LORD.

30 I sacerdoti e i Leviti dunque ricevettero l’oro, l’argento e gli utensili, dopo che erano stati pesati, per portarli a Gerusalemme nella casa del nostro Dio.

The priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and of the gold and of the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

31 P oi partimmo dal fiume Aava il dodicesimo giorno del primo mese per andare a Gerusalemme. La mano di Dio fu su di noi, e ci liberò dal nemico e da ogni insidia durante il viaggio.

¶ And we departed from the river of Ahava on the twelfth of the first month to go to Jerusalem; and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and of such as lay in wait by the way.

32 A rrivammo a Gerusalemme; e là, dopo esserci riposati tre giorni,

And we came to Jerusalem and abode there three days.

33 i l quarto giorno pesammo nella casa del nostro Dio l’argento, l’oro e gli utensili, che consegnammo al sacerdote Meremot figlio di Uria; con lui era Eleazar, figlio di Fineas, e con loro erano i Leviti Iozabad, figlio di Iesua, e Noadia, figlio di Binnu.

Now on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth, the son of Uriah, the priest; and with him was Eleazar, the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad, the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah, the son of Binnui, Levites;

34 T utto fu contato e pesato; e nello stesso tempo si prese nota del peso totale.

by number and by weight of each one; and all the weight was written at that time.

35 G li esuli tornati dall’esilio offrirono in olocausto al Dio d’Israele dodici tori per tutto Israele, novantasei montoni, settantasette agnelli e, come sacrificio per il peccato, dodici capri; tutto questo in olocausto al Signore.

Those that had been carried away, the sons of the captivity, offered burnt offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-seven lambs, twelve he goats as sin; all this was a burnt offering unto the LORD.

36 P oi presentarono i decreti del re ai satrapi del re e ai governatori d’oltre il fiume, e questi furono ben disposti verso il popolo e la casa di Dio.

And they delivered the king’s commissions unto the king’s lieutenants and captains of the other side the river, which favoured the people and the house of God.
