1 G uai alla città ribelle, contaminata, alla città piena di soprusi!

¶ Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!

2 E ssa non dà ascolto ad alcuna voce, non accetta correzione, non si confida nel Signore, non si avvicina al suo Dio.

She did not obey the voice; she did not receive correction; she did not trust in the LORD; she did not draw near to her God.

3 I suoi capi, in mezzo a lei, sono leoni ruggenti; i suoi giudici sono lupi della sera, che non serbano nulla per la mattina.

Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not leave a bone for tomorrow.

4 I suoi profeti sono arroganti, perfidi; i suoi sacerdoti profanano le cose sante, infrangono la legge.

Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary; they have falsified the law.

5 I l Signore è giusto in mezzo ad essa, egli non commette ingiustizie. Ogni mattina egli dispensa i suoi giudizi e non manca mai; ma il perverso non conosce vergogna.

The just LORD is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: each morning he shall bring his judgment to light; he never fails; but the unjust know no shame.

6 « Io ho sterminato delle nazioni, le loro torri sono distrutte; ho rovinato le loro strade, al punto che non vi passa più nessuno; le loro città sono distrutte, al punto che non c’è più nessuno, nessun abitante.

I have caused the Gentiles to be cut off: their castles are desolate; I made their streets waste until no one passes by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man left, there is no inhabitant.

7 I o dicevo: “Se almeno tu volessi temermi, accettare la correzione! La tua dimora non sarebbe distrutta, nonostante tutto ciò che ho riservato per te”. Ma essi si sono affrettati a pervertire tutte le loro azioni.

Saying, Surely now thou wilt fear me; thou wilt receive chastisement; so thy dwelling shall not be thrown down, all of which I visited upon her; but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

8 P erciò, aspettami», dice il Signore, «per il giorno che mi alzerò per il bottino; perché ho decretato di radunare le nazioni, di riunire i regni, per versare su di loro la mia indignazione, tutto l’ardore della mia ira. Poiché tutta la terra sarà divorata dal fuoco della mia gelosia. Benedizioni future

¶ Therefore wait for me, said the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey; for my judgment is to gather the Gentiles, that I may assemble the kingdoms to pour upon them my indignation, even all my fierce anger; for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

9 « Allora io trasformerò le labbra dei popoli in labbra pure, affinché tutti invochino il nome del Signore, per servirlo di comune accordo.

For then I will restore to the peoples the pure language that they may all call upon the name of the LORD to serve him with one consent.

10 D i là dai fiumi d’Etiopia i miei supplicanti, i miei figli dispersi, mi porteranno le loro offerte.

From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring me an offering.

11 Q uel giorno tu non avrai da vergognarti per tutte le azioni con le quali hai peccato contro di me; perché, allora, io toglierò di mezzo a te quelli che trionfano con superbia, e tu smetterai di inorgoglirti sul mio monte santo.

In that day thou shalt not be ashamed for any of thy doings, in which thou hast rebelled against me, for then I will take away out of the midst of thee those that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no longer be haughty because of the mountain of my holiness.

12 L ascerò in mezzo a te un popolo umile e povero, che confiderà nel nome del Signore.

I will also leave in the midst of thee a poor and humble people, and they shall wait in the name of the LORD.

13 I l resto d’Israele non commetterà azioni malvagie, non dirà menzogne e non si troverà più un linguaggio ingannatore sulle sue labbra; perché essi pascoleranno, si coricheranno e non vi sarà più nessuno che li spaventi».

The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they shall be fed and lie down, and no one shall make them afraid.

14 P rorompi in grida di gioia, o figlia di Sion! Alza grida di esultanza, o Israele! Rallègrati ed esulta con tutto il cuore, o figlia di Gerusalemme!

¶ Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout with joy O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all thy heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15 I l Signore ha revocato le sue condanne contro di te, ha scacciato il tuo nemico. Il Re d’Israele, il Signore, è in mezzo a te, non dovrai più temere alcun male.

The LORD has taken away thy judgments; he has cast out thine enemy; the LORD is king of Israel in the midst of thee; thou shalt not see evil any more.

16 Q uel giorno si dirà a Gerusalemme: «Non temere, o Sion, le tue mani non si indeboliscano!

In that time it shall be said to Jerusalem, Do not fear; and to Zion, Do not let thine hands be slack.

17 I l Signore, il tuo Dio, è in mezzo a te, come un potente che salva. Egli si rallegrerà con gran gioia per causa tua; si acqueterà nel suo amore, esulterà per causa tua con grida di gioia».

The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.

18 « Io raccoglierò quelli che sono nel dolore, lontano dalle feste solenni; sono tuoi, su di loro pesa la vergogna!

I will gather those that are weary because of the long time, who are thine, unto whom her confusion was a burden.

19 I n quel tempo io agirò contro tutti quelli che ti opprimono; salverò la pecora che zoppica, raccoglierò quella che è stata cacciata via, e li renderò gloriosi e famosi in tutti i paesi dove sono stati nella vergogna.

Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee; and I will save her that is lame and gather her that was driven out; and I will make them a praise and of good reputation in every land where they have been put to shame.

20 I n quel tempo io vi ricondurrò, in quel tempo vi raccoglierò; perché vi renderò famosi e gloriosi fra tutti i popoli della terra, quando farò tornare, sotto i vostri occhi, quelli che sono in esilio», dice il Signore.

At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you; for I will give you as fame and as praise among all peoples of the earth, when I shall return your captives before your eyes, saith the LORD.
