1 A llora si radunarono vicino a lui i farisei e alcuni scribi venuti da Gerusalemme.

¶ Then came together unto him the Pharisees and some of the scribes, who had come from Jerusalem,

2 E ssi videro che alcuni dei suoi discepoli prendevano il cibo con mani impure, cioè non lavate.

who upon seeing some of his disciples eat bread with common, that is to say, with unwashed, hands, they condemned them.

3 ( Poiché i farisei e tutti i Giudei non mangiano se non si sono lavate le mani con grande cura, seguendo la tradizione degli antichi;

(For the Pharisees and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands often, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

4 e quando tornano dalla piazza non mangiano senza essersi lavati. Vi sono molte altre cose che osservano per tradizione: abluzioni di calici, di boccali e di vasi di bronzo {e di letti}).

And when they come from the market, unless they wash, they eat not. And there are many other things which they took upon themselves to hold such as the washing of cups and pots, brasen vessels and of tables.)

5 I farisei e gli scribi gli domandarono: «Perché i tuoi discepoli non seguono la tradizione degli antichi, ma prendono cibo con mani impure? »

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do thy disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders but eat bread with unwashed hands?

6 E Gesù disse loro: «Ben profetizzò Isaia di voi, ipocriti, com’è scritto: “Questo popolo mi onora con le labbra, ma il loro cuore è lontano da me.

He answered and said unto them, Well has Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

7 I nvano mi rendono il loro culto, insegnando dottrine che sono precetti di uomini”.

Howbeit in vain do they honor me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

8 A vendo tralasciato il comandamento di Dio, vi attenete alla tradizione degli uomini ».

For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men as the washing of pots and cups, and many other such like things ye do.

9 D iceva loro ancora: «Come sapete bene annullare il comandamento di Dio per osservare la vostra tradizione!

And he also said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

10 M osè infatti ha detto: “Onora tuo padre e tua madre”; e: “Chi maledice padre o madre sia condannato a morte”.

For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother, and, Whosoever curses father or mother shall most definitely die.

11 V oi, invece, se uno dice a suo padre o a sua madre: “Quello con cui potrei assisterti è Corbàn” (vale a dire, un’offerta a Dio),

But ye say, It is enough if a man shall say to his father or mother, It is all Corban, (that is to say, my gift to God) whatever with which thou mightest be profited by me.

12 n on gli lasciate più far niente per suo padre o sua madre,

And ye suffer him to do no more for his father or for his mother,

13 a nnullando così la parola di Dio con la tradizione che voi vi siete tramandata. Di cose simili ne fate molte». Giudizio sul cuore umano

invalidating the word of God with your tradition, which ye have given; and many such like things do ye.

14 P oi, chiamata di nuovo la folla a sé, diceva loro: «Ascoltatemi tutti e intendete:

And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you and understand;

15 n on c’è nulla fuori dell’uomo che entrando in lui possa contaminarlo; sono le cose che escono dall’uomo quelle che contaminano l’uomo.

there is nothing from outside the man that entering into him can defile him, but the things which come out of him, those are what defile the man.

16 »

If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.

17 Q uando lasciò la folla ed entrò in casa, i suoi discepoli gli chiesero di spiegare quella parabola.

And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

18 E gli disse loro: «Anche voi siete così incapaci di comprendere? Non capite che tutto ciò che dal di fuori entra nell’uomo non lo può contaminare,

And he said unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not understand that anything from outside that enters into the man cannot defile him?

19 p erché non gli entra nel cuore ma nel ventre e se ne va nella latrina?» Così dicendo, dichiarava puri tutti i cibi.

Because it enters not into his heart, but into the belly, and the man goes out to the privy and purges all foods.

20 D iceva inoltre: «È quello che esce dall’uomo che contamina l’uomo;

For he had said that it is what comes out of the man that defiles the man.

21 p erché è dal di dentro, dal cuore degli uomini, che escono cattivi pensieri, fornicazioni, furti, omicidi,

For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders,

22 a dultèri, cupidigie, malvagità, frode, lascivia, sguardo maligno, calunnia, superbia, stoltezza.

the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

23 T utte queste cose cattive escono dal di dentro e contaminano l’uomo». Gesù risponde alla fede di una pagana

all these evil things come out from within and defile the man.

24 P oi Gesù partì di là e se ne andò verso la regione di Tiro. Entrò in una casa e non voleva farlo sapere a nessuno; ma non poté restare nascosto,

¶ And from there he arose and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entering into a house, desired that no man know of it; but he could not be hid.

25 a nzi, subito una donna la cui bambina aveva uno spirito immondo, avendo udito parlare di lui, venne e gli si gettò ai piedi.

For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him and came and fell at his feet;

26 Q uella donna era pagana, sirofenicia di nascita; e lo pregava di scacciare il demonio da sua figlia.

the woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation, and she besought him that he would cast forth the demon out of her daughter.

27 E gli le disse: «Lascia che prima siano saziati i figli, perché non è bene prendere il pane dei figli per buttarlo ai cagnolini».

But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and to cast it unto the dogs.

28 M a ella gli rispose « Signore, eppure i cagnolini, sotto la tavola, mangiano le briciole dei figli».

And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat of the children’s crumbs.

29 E Gesù le disse: «Per questa parola, va’, il demonio è uscito da tua figlia».

And he said unto her, For this word go; the demon has gone out of thy daughter.

30 L a donna, tornata a casa sua, trovò la bambina coricata sul letto: il demonio era uscito da lei. Gesù guarisce un sordomuto

And when she came to her house, she found that the demon had gone out, and the daughter lay upon the bed.

31 G esù partì di nuovo dalla regione di Tiro e, passando per Sidone, tornò verso il mare di Galilea attraversando il territorio della Decapoli.

¶ And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre, he came by Sidon unto the sea of Galilee through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.

32 C ondussero da lui un sordo che parlava a stento; e lo pregarono che gli imponesse le mani.

And they bring unto him one that was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

33 E gli lo condusse fuori dalla folla, in disparte, gli mise le dita negli orecchi e con la saliva gli toccò la lingua;

And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into the man’s ears; and spitting, he touched the man’s tongue with the saliva;

34 p oi, alzando gli occhi al cielo, sospirò e gli disse: «Effatà!», che vuol dire: «Apriti!»

and looking up to heaven, he cried out, and said, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

35 E {subito} gli si aprirono gli orecchi, gli si sciolse la lingua e parlava bene.

And straightway his ears were opened, and that which bound his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly.

36 G esù ordinò loro di non parlarne a nessuno; ma più lo vietava loro e più lo divulgavano;

And he charged them that they should tell no one; but the more he commanded them, so much more and more they published it

37 e d erano pieni di stupore e dicevano: «Egli ha fatto ogni cosa bene; i sordi li fa udire e i muti li fa parlare».

and were beyond measure astonished, saying, He has done all things well: he makes both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.
