1 C osì parla il Signore: «Scendi nella casa del re di Giuda e là pronuncia questa parola:

¶ Thus hath the LORD said: Go down to the house of the king of Judah and speak there this word,

2 “ Ascolta la parola del Signore, o re di Giuda, che siedi sul trono di Davide: tu, i tuoi servitori e il tuo popolo, che entrate per queste porte!

and say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that doth sit upon the throne of David, thou, and thy slaves and thy people that enter in by these gates:

3 C osì parla il Signore: ‘Esercitate il diritto e la giustizia; liberate dalla mano dell’oppressore colui al quale è tolto il suo; non fate torto né violenza allo straniero, all’orfano e alla vedova; non spargete sangue innocente in questo luogo.

Thus hath the LORD said: Execute judgment and righteousness and deliver the oppressed out of the hand of the oppressor and do not deceive, neither steal from the stranger nor from the fatherless nor from the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

4 I nfatti, se metterete realmente in pratica questa parola, dei re a cui appartiene il trono di Davide entreranno per le porte di questa casa su carri e su cavalli: entreranno essi, i loro servitori e il loro popolo.

For if ye effectively obey this word, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house the kings seated by David upon his throne, riding in chariots and on horses, he and his slaves and his people.

5 M a se non date ascolto a queste parole, io giuro per me stesso’, dice il Signore, ‘che questa casa andrà in rovina’”».

But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, said the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.

6 P oiché così parla il Signore riguardo alla casa del re di Giuda: «Tu eri per me come Galaad, come la vetta del Libano. Ma, certo, io ti ridurrò simile a un deserto, a delle città disabitate.

For thus hath the LORD said regarding the house of the king of Judah: Thou art Gilead unto me and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness and cities which are not inhabited.

7 P reparo contro di te dei devastatori, armati ciascuno delle sue armi; essi abbatteranno i cedri tuoi più belli e li getteranno nel fuoco.

And I will appoint destroyers against thee, each one with his weapons, and they shall cut down thy choice cedars and cast them into the fire.

8 M olte nazioni passeranno presso questa città, e ognuno dirà all’altro: “Perché il Signore ha fatto così a questa grande città?”

And many Gentiles shall pass by this city, and each man shall say to his neighbour, Why has the LORD done thus unto this great city?

9 S i risponderà: “Perché hanno abbandonato il patto del Signore, del loro Dio; perché si sono prostrati davanti ad altri dèi e li hanno serviti”».

Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and worshipped other gods and served them.

10 N on piangete per il morto, non vi affliggete per lui; ma piangete, piangete per colui che se ne va, perché non tornerà più e non vedrà più il suo paese natìo.

¶ Do not weep for the dead nor bemoan him, but weep sore for him that goes away, for he shall return no more nor see his native country.

11 I nfatti così parla il Signore riguardo a Sallum, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, che regnava al posto di Giosia, suo padre, e che è uscito da questo luogo: «Egli non vi ritornerà più,

For thus hath the LORD said of Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, He who went forth out of this place shall not return there any more;

12 m a morirà nel luogo dove l’hanno deportato; non vedrà più questo paese».

but he shall die in the place where they have led him captive and shall see this land no more.

13 « Guai a colui che costruisce la sua casa senza giustizia e le sue camere senza equità, che fa lavorare il prossimo per nulla e non gli paga il suo salario

Woe unto him that builds his house and not in righteousness and his chambers and not in judgment, using his neighbour’s service without wages and not giving him the wages of his work!

14 e dice: “Mi costruirò una casa grande con camere spaziose al piano di sopra”. Egli vi fa delle finestre, la riveste di legno di cedro e la dipinge di rosso!

That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cuts out windows in it and covers it with cedar and anoints it with vermilion.

15 T u regni forse perché hai la passione del cedro? Tuo padre forse non mangiava e beveva? Però faceva ciò che è retto e giusto, e tutto gli andava bene.

Shalt thou reign, because thou dost enclose thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink and do judgment and righteousness, and then it was well with him?

16 E gli giudicava la causa del povero e del bisognoso, e tutto gli andava bene. Questo non significa forse conoscermi?», dice il Signore.

He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him. Is this not to know me? said the LORD.

17 « Ma tu non hai occhi né cuore che per la tua cupidigia, per spargere sangue innocente, per fare oppressione e violenza».

But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness and for to shed innocent blood and for oppression and for violence, to do it.

18 P erciò così parla il Signore riguardo a Ioiachim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda: «Non lo si compiangerà, dicendo: “Ahimè, fratello mio, ahimè, sorella!” Non se ne farà cordoglio, dicendo: “Ahimè, signore, ahimè, maestà!”

Therefore thus hath the LORD said concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! and Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

19 S arà sepolto come si seppellisce un asino, trascinato e gettato fuori dalle porte di Gerusalemme».

He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

20 « Sali sul Libano e grida, alza la voce in Basan, grida dall’Abarim, perché tutti i tuoi amanti sono distrutti.

¶ Go up to Lebanon and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan and cry unto all parts: for all thy lovers are destroyed.

21 I o ti ho parlato al tempo della tua prosperità, ma tu dicevi: “Io non ascolterò”. Questo è stato il tuo modo di fare sin dalla tua adolescenza; tu non hai mai dato ascolto alla mia voce.

I spoke unto thee in thy prosperity, but thou didst say, I will not hear. This has been thy way from thy youth, that thou hast never heard my voice.

22 T utti i tuoi pastori saranno pastura del vento e i tuoi amanti saranno deportati; allora sarai svergognata, confusa, per tutta la tua malvagità.

The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity; surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confound thyself because of all thy malice.

23 T u che abiti nel Libano, che ti annidi fra i cedri, come farai pietà quando ti coglieranno i dolori, le doglie come quelle di una donna che partorisce!

Thou didst inhabit Lebanon, thou didst make thy nest in the cedars. How shalt thou cry out when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

24 C om’è vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, «anche se Conia, figlio di Ioiachim, re di Giuda, fosse un sigillo nella mia destra, io ti strapperei da lì.

As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet I would pluck thee from there;

25 I o ti darò nelle mani di quelli che cercano la tua vita, nelle mani di quelli dei quali hai paura, nelle mani di Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, nelle mani dei Caldei.

and I will give thee into the hand of those that seek thy soul and into the hand of those whose face thou dost fear, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

26 C accerò te e tua madre, che ti ha partorito, in un paese straniero dove non siete nati, e là morirete.

And I will cast thee out and thy mother that bore thee into another country, where ye were not born, and there ye shall die.

27 M a quanto al paese in cui desiderano tornare, essi non vi torneranno».

But to the land unto which they de sire to return, they shall not return there.

28 Q uesto Conia è dunque un vaso spezzato, infranto? È forse un oggetto che non fa più alcun piacere? Perché sono dunque cacciati, lui e la sua discendenza, gettati in un paese che non conoscono?

Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? Is he a vessel in which there is no pleasure? Why are they cast out, he and his generation, and are cast into a land which they know not?

29 O paese, o paese, o paese, ascolta la parola del Signore!

O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.

30 C osì parla il Signore: «Iscrivete quest’uomo come privo di figli, come un uomo che non prospererà durante i suoi giorni; perché nessuno della sua discendenza giungerà a sedersi sul trono di Davide e a regnare ancora su Giuda».

Thus hath the LORD said, Write what shall be of this man deprived of a generation, a man unto whom nothing shall prosper in all the days of his life, for no man of his seed who sits upon the throne of David and rules over Judah shall prosper.
