1 A llora il re Dario ordinò che si facessero delle ricerche negli archivi dove erano conservati i tesori a Babilonia.

¶ Then Darius, the king, gave a commandment, and a search was made in the house of the rolls, where the treasures were laid up in Babylon.

2 N el castello di Ameta, situato nella provincia di Media, si trovò un rotolo, nel quale stava scritto così:

And there was found in the coffer of the palace that is in the province of the Medes, a roll, and therein was a record thus written:

3 « Memoria. Il primo anno del re Ciro, il re Ciro ha pubblicato questo editto, concernente la casa di Dio a Gerusalemme: “La casa sia ricostruita per essere un luogo dove si offrono sacrifici; le fondamenta che verranno poste, siano solide; abbia sessanta cubiti d’altezza, sessanta cubiti di larghezza,

In the first year of Cyrus, the king, the same Cyrus, the king, gave a commandment concerning the house of God at Jerusalem, that the house be built as a place for sacrifices to be offered, and let the walls thereof be covered; the height thereof sixty cubits, and the breadth thereof sixty cubits;

4 t re ordini di blocchi di pietra e un ordine di travatura nuova; la spesa sia pagata dalla casa reale;

the orders, three of stones of marble and one order of new timber and let the expenses be given out of the king’s house.

5 i noltre, gli utensili d’oro e d’argento della casa di Dio, che Nabucodonosor aveva tolti dal tempio di Gerusalemme e trasportati a Babilonia, siano restituiti e riportati al tempio di Gerusalemme, nel luogo dov’erano prima, e riposti nella casa di Dio”».

And also let the golden and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took forth out of the temple which was at Jerusalem and brought unto Babylon, be restored and go again unto the temple which is at Jerusalem, to his place, and let them be placed in the house of God.

6 « Tu dunque, Tattenai, governatore d’oltre il fiume, tu, Setar-Boznai, e voi, loro colleghi di Afarsac, che state di là dal fiume, statevene lontani da quel luogo!

Now therefore, Tatnai, captain of the other side of the river, Shetharboznai, and your companions, the Apharsachites, who are on the other side of the river, remove yourselves from there.

7 L asciate continuare i lavori di quella casa di Dio. Il governatore dei Giudei e gli anziani dei Giudei ricostruiscano quella casa di Dio dov’era prima.

Leave the work of this house of God unto the captain of the Jews and to their elders that they may build this house of God in his place.

8 I o ho dato ordine su come dovrete comportarvi verso quegli anziani dei Giudei nella ricostruzione di quella casa di Dio: le spese siano puntualmente pagate a quegli uomini attingendo dalle entrate del re provenienti dai tributi d’oltre il fiume, in modo da non interrompere i lavori.

And by me is given the commandment regarding what ye shall do with the elders of these Jews, to build this house of God: that of the king’s goods, of the tribute from the other side of the river, the expenses be given unto these men, that they not cease.

9 L e cose necessarie per gli olocausti al Dio dei cieli: vitelli, montoni, agnelli, frumento, sale, vino e olio, siano fornite ai sacerdoti di Gerusalemme su loro richiesta, giorno per giorno e senza negligenza,

And that which they have need of, both young bullocks and rams and lambs for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the word of the priests which are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day that they not cease:

10 a ffinché offrano sacrifici di odore soave al Dio del cielo e preghino per la vita del re e dei suoi figli.

that they may offer sacrifices of sweet savours unto the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king, and of his sons.

11 E io ho dato anche quest’ordine: se qualcuno contravverrà a questo decreto, si prenda dalla sua casa una trave, la si rizzi, vi sia inchiodato sopra, e la sua casa, per questo motivo, sia ridotta a letamaio.

It is also given by my commandment that whoever shall alter this word, let a timber be pulled down from his house, and being set up, let him be hanged upon it, and let his house be made a dunghill for this.

12 I l Dio che ha fatto di quel luogo la dimora del suo nome, distrugga ogni re ed ogni popolo che alzi la mano per trasgredire la mia parola, per distruggere la casa di Dio che si trova a Gerusalemme! Io, Dario, ho emanato questo decreto, ed esso sia eseguito con diligenza». Inaugurazione del tempio

And the God that has caused his name to dwell there destroy all kings and people that shall put to their hand to alter or to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made the decree; let it be done with speed.

13 P oiché il re Dario aveva così decretato, Tattenai, governatore d’oltre il fiume, Setar-Boznai e i loro colleghi eseguirono puntualmente i suoi ordini.

¶ Then Tatnai, captain of the other side of the river, Shetharboznai, and their companions, speedily did according to that which Darius, the king, had sent.

14 E gli anziani dei Giudei poterono continuare i lavori e far avanzare la costruzione, aiutati dalle parole ispirate del profeta Aggeo e di Zaccaria, figlio di Iddo. Così finirono i loro lavori di costruzione secondo il comandamento del Dio d’Israele, e secondo gli ordini di Ciro, di Dario e di Artaserse, re di Persia.

And the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered according to the prophecy of Haggai, the prophet, and Zechariah, the son of Iddo. They built and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel and according to the commandment of Cyrus and of Darius and of Artaxerxes, king of Persia.

15 L a casa fu finita il terzo giorno del mese di Adar, il sesto anno del regno di Dario.

And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius, the king.

16 I figli d’Israele, i sacerdoti, i Leviti e gli altri reduci dall’esilio celebrarono con gioia l’inaugurazione di questa casa di Dio.

And the sons of Israel, the priests and the Levites and the rest of the sons of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy,

17 P er l’inaugurazione di questo tempio di Dio offrirono cento tori, duecento montoni, quattrocento agnelli; e come sacrificio espiatorio per tutto Israele, dodici capri, secondo il numero delle tribù d’Israele.

and they offered at the dedication of this house of God one hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and as the sin of all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

18 S tabilirono i sacerdoti secondo le loro classi e i Leviti secondo le loro divisioni, per il servizio di Dio a Gerusalemme, come sta scritto nel libro di Mosè.

And they set the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their courses over the work of God, which is at Jerusalem, as it is written in the book of Moses.

19 P oi i reduci dall’esilio celebrarono la Pasqua il quattordicesimo giorno del primo mese;

And the sons of the captivity kept the passover upon the fourteenth day of the first month.

20 p oiché i sacerdoti e i Leviti si erano purificati di pari consentimento, tutti erano puri; sacrificarono la Pasqua per tutti i reduci dall’esilio, per i sacerdoti loro fratelli e per sé stessi.

For the priests and the Levites were purified together, all of them were pure, and killed the passover for all the sons of the captivity and for their brethren, the priests, and for themselves.

21 C osì i figli d’Israele reduci dall’esilio mangiarono la Pasqua con tutti coloro che si erano separati dall’impurità della gente del paese e che si unirono a loro per cercare il Signore, Dio d’Israele.

And the sons of Israel who had returned out of captivity and all those who had separated themselves unto them from the uncleanness of the Gentiles of the land, to seek the LORD God of Israel, ate

22 C elebrarono con gioia la festa degli Azzimi per sette giorni, perché il Signore li aveva rallegrati, e aveva piegato in loro favore il cuore del re d’Assiria in modo da fortificare le loro mani nell’opera della casa di Dio, Dio d’Israele.

and kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with joy; for the LORD had made them joyful and turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them, to strengthen their hands in the work of the house of God, the God of Israel.
