1 S ei giorni dopo Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello, e li condusse sopra un alto monte, in disparte.

¶ And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them apart up into a high mountain

2 E fu trasfigurato davanti a loro; la sua faccia risplendette come il sole e i suoi vestiti divennero candidi come la luce.

and was transfigured before them, and his face shined as the sun, and his raiment was as white as the light.

3 E apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia che stavano conversando con lui.

And, behold, Moses and Elijah appeared unto them talking with him.

4 E Pietro prese a dire a Gesù: «Signore, è bene che stiamo qui; se vuoi, farò qui tre tende: una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia».

Then Peter answered and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to remain here; if thou desire, let us make three tabernacles here: one for thee and one for Moses and one for Elijah.

5 M entre egli parlava ancora, una nuvola luminosa li coprì con la sua ombra, ed ecco una voce dalla nuvola che diceva: «Questo è il mio Figlio diletto, nel quale mi sono compiaciuto; ascoltatelo».

While he yet spoke, behold, a cloud of light overshadowed them, and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

6 I discepoli, udito ciò, caddero con la faccia a terra e furono presi da gran timore.

And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and feared greatly.

7 M a Gesù, avvicinatosi, li toccò e disse: «Alzatevi, non temete».

Then Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise and be not afraid.

8 E d essi, alzati gli occhi, non videro nessuno, se non Gesù stesso, solo.

And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus only.

9 P oi, mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù diede loro quest’ordine: «Non parlate a nessuno di questa visione, finché il Figlio dell’uomo sia risuscitato dai morti».

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man is risen from the dead.

10 E i discepoli gli domandarono: «Perché dunque gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?»

Then his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

11 E gli rispose: «Certo, Elia deve venire e ristabilire ogni cosa.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah truly shall come first and restore all things.

12 M a io vi dico: Elia è già venuto e non l’hanno riconosciuto; anzi, gli hanno fatto tutto quello che hanno voluto; così anche il Figlio dell’uomo deve soffrire da parte loro».

But I say unto you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatever they pleased. Likewise the Son of man shall also suffer of them.

13 A llora i discepoli capirono che egli aveva parlato loro di Giovanni il battista. Guarigione di un ragazzo indemoniato

Then the disciples understood that he spoke unto them of John the Baptist.

14 Q uando tornarono tra la folla, un uomo gli si avvicinò, gettandosi in ginocchio davanti a lui,

¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

15 e gli disse: «Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio, perché è epilettico e soffre molto; spesso, infatti, cade nel fuoco e spesso nell’acqua.

Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic and suffers miserably; for many times he has fallen into the fire and often into the water.

16 L ’ho condotto dai tuoi discepoli, ma non l’hanno potuto guarire».

And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

17 G esù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando vi sopporterò? Portatelo qui da me».

Then Jesus answered and said, O unfaithful and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him here to me.

18 G esù sgridò il demonio e quello uscì dal ragazzo, che da quel momento fu guarito.

And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon departed out of him and the child was cured from that very hour.

19 A llora i discepoli, accostatisi a Gesù in disparte, gli chiesero: «Perché non l’abbiamo potuto cacciare noi?»

Then the disciples came to Jesus apart and said, Why could not we cast him out?

20 E gli rispose loro: «A causa della vostra poca fede; perché in verità io vi dico che se avete fede quanto un granello di senape, potrete dire a questo monte: “Passa da qui a là”, e passerà; e niente vi sarà impossibile.

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unfaithfulness; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

21 G esù predice per la seconda volta la Passione

Howbeit this lineage of demons does not go out but by prayer and fasting.

22 M entre essi erano riuniti insieme in Galilea, Gesù disse loro: «Il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere dato nelle mani degli uomini;

¶ And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men;

23 e ssi lo uccideranno e il terzo giorno risusciterà». Ed essi ne furono molto rattristati. Gesù paga la tassa nel tempio

and they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

24 Q uando furono giunti a Capernaum, quelli che riscuotevano le didramme si avvicinarono a Pietro e dissero: «Il vostro maestro non paga le didramme?»

¶ And when they were come to Capernaum, those that received the two drachmas came to Peter and said, Does not your master pay the two drachmas?

25 E gli rispose: «Sì». Quando fu entrato in casa, Gesù lo prevenne e gli disse: «Che te ne pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi prendono i tributi o l’imposta? Dai loro figli o dagli stranieri?»

He said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus spoke unto him first, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own sons or of strangers?

26 « Dagli stranieri», rispose Pietro. Gesù gli disse: «I figli, dunque, ne sono esenti.

Peter said unto him, Of strangers. Jesus said unto him, Then the sons are free.

27 M a, per non scandalizzarli, va’ al mare, getta l’amo e prendi il primo pesce che verrà su. Aprigli la bocca: troverai uno statère. Prendilo e dàllo loro per me e per te».

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea and cast a hook and take up the first fish that comes up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a stater, a coin worth four drachmas; take that, and give it unto them for me and thee.
