1 L e disposizioni del cuore appartengono all'uomo, ma la risposta della lingua viene dall'Eterno.

¶ Of man are the preparations of the heart, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.

2 T utte le vie dell'uomo sono pure ai suoi occhi, ma l'Eterno pesa gli spiriti.

¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits.

3 A ffida all'Eterno le tue attività e i tuoi progetti riusciranno.

¶ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

4 L 'Eterno ha fatto ogni cosa per se stesso, anche l'empio per il giorno della sventura.

¶ The LORD has made all things by himself, yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

5 C hiunque è superbo di cuore è un abominio per l'Eterno; anche se stringe la mano ad un altro per un'alleanza, non rimarrà impunito.

¶ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; the covenant that he makes, shall not be without chastening.

6 C on la bontà e la verità l'iniquità si espia, e con il timore dell'Eterno uno si allontana dal male.

¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

7 Q uando l'Eterno gradisce le vie di un uomo, fa essere in pace con lui anche i suoi nemici.

¶ When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

8 E ' meglio poco con giustizia, che grandi rendite senza equità.

¶ Better is a little with righteousness than a great number of fruits with injustice.

9 I l cuore dell'uomo programma la sua via, ma l'Eterno dirige i suoi passi.

¶ The heart of man devises his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

10 S ulle labbra del re sta una sentenza divina; nel giudizio la sua bocca non deve sbagliare.

¶ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; his mouth does not transgress in judgment.

11 L a stadera e le bilance giuste sono dell'Eterno, tutti i pesi del sacchetto sono opera sua.

¶ A just weight and balance are the LORD’s; all the weights of the bag are his work.

12 E ' un abominio per i re fare il male, perché il trono è reso stabile con la giustizia.

¶ It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is to be established with righteousness.

13 L e labbra giuste sono gradite ai re; essi amano chi parla rettamente.

¶ Righteous lips are the delight of kings, and they love him that speaks that which is right.

14 L 'ira del re è come messaggeri di morte, ma l'uomo saggio la placherà.

¶ The wrath of the king is as a messenger of death, but the wise man will avoid it.

15 N ella luce del volto del re c'è vita, e il suo favore è come nube dell'ultima pioggia.

In the light of the king’s countenance is life, and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 Q uanto è meglio acquistare sapienza che oro, e acquistare intendimento è preferibile all'argento.

¶ How much better is it to acquire wisdom than gold! and to acquire understanding is worth more than silver!

17 L a strada maestra degli uomini retti è evitare il male; chi vuol custodire la sua anima sorveglia la sua via.

¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

18 P rima della rovina viene l'orgoglio, e prima della caduta lo spirito altero.

¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

19 M eglio essere umile di spirito con i miseri, che spartire la preda con i superbi.

¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 C hi presta attenzione alla Parola troverà il bene, e chi confida nell'Eterno è beato.

¶ He who has understanding in the word shall find good, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.

21 I l saggio di cuore sarà chiamato prudente, e la dolcezza delle labbra aumenta il sapere.

¶ The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips shall increase doctrine.

22 I l senno è una fonte di vita per chi lo possiede, ma la stoltezza è il castigo degli stolti.

¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

23 I l cuore del saggio rende assennata la sua bocca, e aumenta il sapere delle sue labbra.

¶ The heart of the wise causes his mouth to be prudent, and with his lips he shall increase doctrine.

24 L e parole soavi sono come un favo di miele, dolcezza all'anima e medicina alle ossa.

¶ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and medicine to the bones.

25 C 'è una via che all'uomo sembra diritta, ma la sua fine sfocia in vie di morte.

¶ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

26 L a persona che si affatica si affatica per se stessa, perché la sua bocca lo stimola.

¶ The soul of him that labours, labours for himself; for his mouth craves it of him.

27 L 'uomo malvagio macchina il male e sulle sue labbra c'è come un fuoco ardente.

¶ The man of Belial digs in search of evil, and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

28 L 'uomo perverso semina contese, e chi calunnia separa gli amici migliori.

The perverse man sows strife, and the tale bearer separates princes.

29 L 'uomo violento adesca il proprio compagno e lo conduce per una via non buona.

¶ The evil man flatters his neighbour and leads him into the way that is not good.

30 C hi chiude gli occhi per macchinare cose perverse, si morde le labbra quando causa del male.

He shuts his eyes to devise perverse things; moving his lips he brings evil to pass.

31 I capelli bianchi sono una corona di gloria; la si trova sulla via della giustizia.

¶ Old age is a crown of glory if it is found in the way of righteousness.

32 C hi è lento all'ira val piú di un forte guerriero, e chi domina il suo spirito val piú di chi espugna una città.

¶ He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

33 S i getta la sorte nel grembo, ma ogni decisione dipende dall'Eterno.

¶ The lot is cast into the lap, but the judgment thereof is of the LORD.
