1 L a visione d'Isaia, figlio di Amots, che egli ebbe riguardo a Giuda, e a Gerusalemme ai giorni di Uzziah, di Jotham, di Achaz e di Ezechia re di Giuda.

¶ The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

2 U dite, o cieli, e ascolta, o terra, perché l'Eterno ha parlato: «Ho allevato dei figli e li ho fatti crescere, ma essi si sono ribellati contro di me.

¶ Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for the LORD speaks, I have nourished and brought up sons, and they have rebelled against me.

3 I l bue riconosce il suo proprietario e l'asino la mangiatoia del suo padrone, ma Israele non ha conoscenza e il mio popolo non ha intendimento».

The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know, my people do not have understanding.

4 G uai, nazione peccatrice, popolo carico di iniquità, razza di malfattori, figli che operano perversamente! Hanno abbandonato l'Eterno, hanno disprezzato il Santo d'Israele, si sono sviati e voltati indietro.

O sinful nation, people laden with iniquity, generation of evildoers, corrupt sons! They have forsaken the LORD; they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger; they have turned back.

5 P erché volete essere ulteriormente colpiti? Vi ribellereste ancor di piú. Tutto il capo è malato, tutto il cuore langue.

Why should I chastise you any more? Ye will revolt more and more; every head is sick, and every heart faint.

6 D alla pianta del piede fino alla testa non vi è nulla di sano: solo ferite, lividure e piaghe aperte, che non sono state pulite né fasciate né lenite con olio.

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in him; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

7 I l vostro paese è desolato, le vostre città arse dal fuoco, il vostro suolo lo divorano gli stranieri sotto i vostri occhi; è una desolazione come se fosse distrutto da stranieri.

Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

8 C osí la figlia di Sion è rimasta come un capanno in una vigna, come una capanna in un campo di cocomeri, come una città assediata.

And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

9 S e l'Eterno degli eserciti non ci avesse lasciato un piccolo residuo, saremmo come Sodoma, assomiglieremmo a Gomorra.

Except the LORD of the hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

10 A scoltate la parola dell'Eterno, o capi di Sodoma, prestate orecchio alla legge del nostro DIO, o popolo di Gomorra!

¶ Hear the word of the LORD, ye princes of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

11 « Che m'importa la moltitudine dei vostri sacrifici, dice l'Eterno. Sono sazio degli olocausti di montoni e del grasso di bestie ingrassate; il sangue dei tori, degli agnelli e dei capri non lo gradisco.

To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? shall the LORD say. I am full of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed beasts; and I do not delight in the blood of bullocks or of lambs or of he goats.

12 Q uando venite a presentarvi davanti a me, chi ha richiesto questo da voi, che calpestiate i miei cortili?

When ye come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to tread my courts?

13 S mettete di portare oblazioni inutili; l'incenso, è per me un abominio; non posso sopportare i noviluni e i sabati, il convocare assemblee e l'iniquità assieme alle riunioni sacre.

Bring no more vain oblations; the incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot stand them; iniquity and the solemn meeting.

14 I o odio i vostri noviluni e le vostre feste solenni; sono un peso per me, sono stanco di sopportarle.

Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

15 Q uando stendete le vostre mani, io nascondo i miei occhi da voi; anche se moltiplicate le preghiere, io non ascolto; le vostre mani sono piene di sangue.

And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; likewise, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear; your hands are full of blood.

16 L avatevi, purificatevi, togliete dalla mia presenza la malvagità delle vostre azioni, cessate di fare il male.

¶ Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;

17 I mparate a fare il bene, cercate la giustizia, soccorrete l'oppresso, rendete giustizia all'orfano, difendete la causa della vedova.

learn to do good; seek judgment; restore unto the oppressed; hear the fatherless in right judgment; protect the widow.

18 V enite quindi e discutiamo assieme, dice l'Eterno, anche se i vostri peccati fossero come scarlatto, diventeranno bianchi come neve; anche se fossero rossi come porpora, diventeranno come lana.

Then come, shall the LORD say, and we shall be even; if your sins were as scarlet, they shall be made as white as snow; if they were red like crimson, they shall become as wool.

19 S e siete disposti a ubbidire, mangerete le cose migliori del paese;

If ye are willing and hearken, ye shall eat the good of the land;

20 m a se rifiutate e vi ribellate, sarete divorati dalla spada», perché la bocca dell'Eterno ha parlato.

But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

21 C ome mai la città fedele è divenuta una prostituta? Era piena di rettitudine, la giustizia vi dimorava, ma ora vi abitano gli assassini.

¶ How is the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it, but now murderers.

22 l l tuo argento è diventato scorie, il tuo vino è stato diluito con acqua.

Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:

23 I tuoi principi sono ribelli e compagni di ladri; tutti amano regali e corrono dietro alle ricompense. Non fanno giustizia all'orfano, e la causa della vedova non giunge davanti a loro.

Thy princes are rebellious and companions of thieves; every one loves bribes and follows after rewards; they do not hear the fatherless in judgment, neither does the cause of the widow come unto them.

24 P erciò il Signore, l'Eterno degli eserciti, il Potente d'Israele dice: «Ah, mi vendicherò dei miei avversari e farò vendetta dei miei nemici.

Therefore saith the Lord, the LORD of the hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease myself of my adversaries and avenge myself of my enemies;

25 M etterò nuovamente la mia mano su di te, ti purificherò delle tue scorie come con la soda e rimuoverò tutto il tuo piombo.

and I will turn my hand upon thee and according to pureness purge away thy dross and take away all thy tin;

26 R istabilirò i tuoi giudici come erano all'inizio, e i tuoi consiglieri come erano al principio. Dopo questo, sarai chiamata" la città della giustizia", "la città fedele".

and I will restore thy judges as at the first and thy counsellors as at the beginning; afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

27 S ion sarà redenta mediante la rettitudine, e i suoi convertiti mediante la giustizia.

Zion shall be ransomed with judgment and her converts with righteousness.

28 M a i ribelli e i peccatori saranno distrutti assieme, e quelli che abbandonano l'Eterno saranno sterminati.

And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and those that forsook the LORD shall be consumed.

29 A llora avrete vergogna delle querce che avete amato e arrossirete dei giardini che avete scelto.

For ye shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the groves that ye have chosen.

30 P oiché sarete come una quercia dalle foglie appassite e come un giardino senz'acqua.

For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf falls and as a garden that has no water.

31 L 'uomo forte sarà come stoppia e la sua opera come una favilla; bruceranno insieme tutte e due e nessuno li spegnerà».

And the strong idol shall be as tow and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and no one shall be able to quench them.
