¶ A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, because of all the ignorance.

2 É ternel, j'ai entendu ce que tu as annoncé, je suis saisi de crainte. Accomplis ton oeuvre dans le cours des années, ô Éternel! Dans le cours des années manifeste-la! Mais dans ta colère souviens-toi de tes compassions!

O LORD, I have heard thy word and was afraid; O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the times; in the midst of the times make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

3 D ieu vient de Théman, Le Saint vient de la montagne de Paran... Pause. Sa majesté couvre les cieux, Et sa gloire remplit la terre.

¶ God shall come from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was filled with his praise.

4 C 'est comme l'éclat de la lumière; Des rayons partent de sa main; Là réside sa force.

And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand; and there was hidden his strength.

5 D evant lui marche la peste, Et la peste est sur ses traces.

Before his face went mortality, and burning coals went forth from his feet.

6 I l s'arrête, et de l'oeil il mesure la terre; Il regarde, et il fait trembler les nations; Les montagnes éternelles se brisent, Les collines antiques s'abaissent; Les sentiers d'autrefois s'ouvrent devant lui.

He stood and measured the earth; he beheld and drove out the Gentiles; and the ancient mountains crumbled, the ancient hills; the ways of the world bowed unto him.

7 J e vois dans la détresse les tentes de l'Éthiopie, Et les tentes du pays de Madian sont dans l'épouvante.

I saw the tents of Cushan as nothing, and the curtains of the land of Midian trembled.

8 L 'Éternel est-il irrité contre les fleuves? Est-ce contre les fleuves que s'enflamme ta colère, Contre la mer que se répand ta fureur, Pour que tu sois monté sur tes chevaux, Sur ton char de victoire?

Oh LORD, wast thou displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath even against the sea when thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of saving health?

9 T on arc est mis à nu; Les malédictions sont les traits de ta parole... Pause. Tu fends la terre pour donner cours aux fleuves.

Thy bow was entirely uncovered, and the oaths unto the tribes, eternal word, when thou didst divide the earth with rivers.

10 A ton aspect, les montagnes tremblent; Des torrents d'eau se précipitent; L'abîme fait entendre sa voix, Il lève ses mains en haut.

The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the waters passed by; the abyss uttered its voice; the deep lifted up its hands.

11 L e soleil et la lune s'arrêtent dans leur demeure, A la lumière de tes flèches qui partent, A la clarté de ta lance qui brille.

The sun and the moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went and at the shining of thy glittering spear.

12 T u parcours la terre dans ta fureur, Tu écrases les nations dans ta colère.

Thou didst tread upon the land in wrath; thou didst thresh the Gentiles in anger.

13 T u sors pour délivrer ton peuple, Pour délivrer ton oint; Tu brises le faîte de la maison du méchant, Tu la détruis de fond en comble. Pause.

Thou didst go forth to save thy people, to save with thine anointed; thou didst shatter the head of the house of the wicked by uncovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.

14 T u perces de tes traits la tête de ses chefs, Qui se précipitent comme la tempête pour me disperser, Poussant des cris de joie, Comme s'ils dévoraient déjà le malheureux dans leur repaire.

Thou didst strike through with his staffs the heads of his villages, who as a whirlwind attempted to scatter me; their pride was as to devour the poor secretly.

15 A vec tes chevaux tu foules la mer, La boue des grandes eaux.

Thou didst make a way through the sea for thine horses through the heap of great waters.

16 J 'ai entendu... Et mes entrailles sont émues. A cette voix, mes lèvres frémissent, Mes os se consument, Et mes genoux chancellent: En silence je dois attendre le jour de la détresse, Le jour où l'oppresseur marchera contre le peuple.

¶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice; rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my seat, that I might rest in the day of trouble when he comes up unto the people to destroy them.

17 C ar le figuier ne fleurira pas, La vigne ne produira rien, Le fruit de l'olivier manquera, Les champs ne donneront pas de nourriture; Les brebis disparaîtront du pâturage, Et il n'y aura plus de boeufs dans les étables.

Because the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be on the vines; the labour of the olive shall lie, and the cultivated fields shall yield no food; the sheep shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

18 T outefois, je veux me réjouir en l'Éternel, Je veux me réjouir dans le Dieu de mon salut.

yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will joy in the God of my saving health.

19 L 'Éternel, le Seigneur, est ma force; Il rend mes pieds semblables à ceux des biches, Et il me fait marcher sur mes lieux élevés. Au chefs des chantres. Avec instruments à cordes.

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and upon my high places he will cause me to walk victorious in my instruments of music.
