1 O racle sur le désert de la mer. Comme s'avance l'ouragan du midi, Il vient du désert, du pays redoutable.

¶ The burden of the desert of the sea. As the whirlwinds which pass through the wilderness in the land of the south, so they come from the terrible land.

2 U ne vision terrible m'a été révélée. L'oppresseur opprime, le dévastateur dévaste. -Monte, Élam! Assiège, Médie! Je fais cesser tous les soupirs. -

A grievous vision is shown unto me. For one who is treacherous, another who deals treacherously, and for one destroyer, another destroyer. Rise up, Elam; besiege Media; all the sighing thereof I have made to cease.

3 C 'est pourquoi mes reins sont remplis d'angoisses; Des douleurs me saisissent, Comme les douleurs d'une femme en travail; Les spasmes m'empêchent d'entendre, Le tremblement m'empêche de voir.

Therefore my loins are filled with pain; pangs have taken hold upon me as the pangs of a woman that travails; I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

4 M on coeur est troublé, La terreur s'empare de moi; La nuit de mes plaisirs devient une nuit d'épouvante.

My heart panted; the horror frightened me; the night of my pleasure he has turned into fear unto me.

5 O n dresse la table, la garde veille, on mange, on boit... Debout, princes! oignez le bouclier!

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink; arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

6 C ar ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: Va, place la sentinelle; Qu'elle annonce ce qu'elle verra. -

For thus has the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman who shall declare what he sees.

7 E lle vit de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux, Des cavaliers sur des ânes, des cavaliers sur des chameaux; Et elle était attentive, très attentive.

And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; then he looked with more diligence;

8 P uis elle s'écria, comme un lion: Seigneur, je me tiens sur la tour toute la journée, Et je suis à mon poste toutes les nuits;

and he cried, A lion upon the watchman. My lord, I stand continually all the day and all night long upon my watchtower.

9 E t voici, il vient de la cavalerie, des cavaliers deux à deux! Elle prit encore la parole, et dit: Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone, Et toutes les images de ses dieux sont brisées par terre! -

And, behold, this chariot of men comes with a couple of horsemen. Afterwards he spoke and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he has broken unto the ground.

10 O mon peuple, qui as été battu comme du grain dans mon aire! Ce que j'ai appris de l'Éternel des armées, Dieu d'Israël, Je vous l'ai annoncé.

O my harvest, and the people of my threshing floor, that which I have heard of the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared unto you.

11 O racle sur Duma. On me crie de Séir: Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit? Sentinelle, que dis-tu de la nuit?

¶ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of this night? Watchman, what of this night?

12 L a sentinelle répond: Le matin vient, et la nuit aussi. Si vous voulez interroger, interrogez; Convertissez-vous, et revenez.

The watchman said, The morning comes and then the night; if ye will enquire, enquire ye; return, and come.

13 O racle sur l'Arabie. Vous passerez la nuit dans les broussailles de l'Arabie, Caravanes de Dedan!

¶ The burden upon Arabia. In the forest ye shall pass the night in Arabia, O ye walkers of Dedanim.

14 P ortez de l'eau à ceux qui ont soif; Les habitants du pays de Théma Portent du pain aux fugitifs.

Go ye out to meet them bringing water for the thirsty, O inhabitants of the land of Tema; succour those who are fleeing with your bread.

15 C ar ils fuient devant les épées, Devant l'épée nue, devant l'arc tendu, Devant un combat acharné.

For they flee from the presence of the sword, from the presence of the drawn sword, from the presence of the bent bow, from the presence of the grievousness of the battle.

16 C ar ainsi m'a parlé le Seigneur: Encore une année, comme les années d'un mercenaire, Et c'en est fait de toute la gloire de Kédar.

For thus has the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall be undone:

17 I l ne restera qu'un petit nombre des vaillants archers, fils de Kédar, Car l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, l'a déclaré.

And the residue of the number of valiant archers, sons of Kedar, shall be diminished: for the LORD God of Israel has spoken it.
