1 L a reine de Séba apprit la renommée de Salomon, et elle vint à Jérusalem pour l'éprouver par des énigmes. Elle avait une suite fort nombreuse, et des chameaux portant des aromates, de l'or en grande quantité et des pierres précieuses. Elle se rendit auprès de Salomon, et elle lui dit tout ce qu'elle avait dans le coeur.

¶ And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to prove Solomon with enigmas at Jerusalem, with a very great host and camels that bore spices and gold in abundance and precious stones. And when she was come to Solomon, she spoke with him of all that was in her heart.

2 S alomon répondit à toutes ses questions, et il n'y eut rien que Salomon ne sût lui expliquer.

But Solomon told her all her questions, and nothing remained that Solomon did not declare unto her.

3 L a reine de Séba vit la sagesse de Salomon, et la maison qu'il avait bâtie,

And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon and the house that he had built

4 e t les mets de sa table, et la demeure de ses serviteurs, et les fonctions et les vêtements de ceux qui le servaient, et ses échansons et leurs vêtements, et les degrés par lesquelles on montait à la maison de l'Éternel.

and the food of his table and the seat of his slaves and the attendance of his ministers and their apparel, his butlers also and their apparel, and his sacrifices which he sacrificed in the house of the LORD, there was no more spirit in her.

5 H ors d'elle-même, elle dit au roi: C'était donc vrai ce que j'ai appris dans mon pays au sujet de ta position et de ta sagesse!

And she said to the king, It was a true report which I heard in my own land of thy word and of thy wisdom,

6 J e ne croyais pas ce qu'on en disait, avant d'être venue et d'avoir vu de mes yeux. Et voici, on ne m'a pas raconté la moitié de la grandeur de ta sagesse. Tu surpasses ce que la renommée m'a fait connaître.

but I did not believe their words until I came, and my eyes had seen it, and, behold, not even the half of the greatness of thy wisdom was told me, for thou dost exceed the fame that I heard.

7 H eureux tes gens, heureux tes serviteurs, qui sont continuellement devant toi et qui entendent ta sagesse!

Blessed are thy men and blessed are these thy slaves, who stand continually before thee and hear thy wisdom.

8 B éni soit l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'a accordé la faveur de te placer sur son trône comme roi pour l'Éternel, ton Dieu! C'est parce que ton Dieu aime Israël et veut le faire subsister à toujours, qu'il t'a établi roi sur lui pour que tu fasses droit et justice.

The LORD thy God be blessed, who delighted in thee to set thee on his throne, to be king for the LORD thy God because thy God loved Israel, to establish them for ever, therefore, he made thee king over them, to do judgment and righteousness.

9 E lle donna au roi cent vingt talents d'or, une très grande quantité d'aromates et des pierres précieuses. Il n'y eut plus d'aromates tels que ceux donnés au roi Salomon par la reine de Séba.

And she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold and of spices great abundance and precious stones; never had there been any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon.

10 L es serviteurs de Huram et les serviteurs de Salomon, qui apportèrent de l'or d'Ophir, amenèrent aussi du bois de santal et des pierres précieuses.

Also the slaves of Hiram and the slaves of Solomon, who had brought gold from Ophir, brought brazil wood and precious stones.

11 L e roi fit avec le bois de santal des escaliers pour la maison de l'Éternel et pour la maison du roi, et des harpes et des luths pour les chantres. On n'en avait pas vu de semblable auparavant dans le pays de Juda.

And the king made of the brazil wood stairs to the house of the LORD and to the king’s palace and harps and psalteries for the singers, and such wood had never been seen before in the land of Judah.

12 L e roi Salomon donna à la reine de Séba tout ce qu'elle désira, ce qu'elle demanda, plus qu'elle n'avait apporté au roi. Puis elle s'en retourna et alla dans son pays, elle et ses serviteurs.

And King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, more than what she had brought unto the king. Then she turned and went away to her own land with her slaves.

13 L e poids de l'or qui arrivait chaque année à Salomon était de six cent soixante-six talents d'or,

¶ Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold,

14 o utre ce qu'il retirait des négociants et des marchands qui en apportaient, de tous les rois d'Arabie et des gouverneurs du pays, qui apportaient de l'or et de l'argent à Salomon.

besides that which the traders and merchants brought. And all the kings of Arabia and the governors of the land brought gold and silver to Solomon.

15 L e roi Salomon fit deux cents grands boucliers d'or battu, pour chacun desquels il employa six cents sicles d'or battu,

And King Solomon made two hundred bucklers of beaten gold; six hundred shekels of beaten gold went to each buckler.

16 e t trois cents autres boucliers d'or battu, pour chacun desquels il employa trois cents sicles d'or; et le roi les mit dans la maison de la forêt du Liban.

And he made three hundred shields of beaten gold; three hundred shekels of gold went to each shield. And the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

17 L e roi fit un grand trône d'ivoire, et le couvrit d'or pur.

Moreover, the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold.

18 C e trône avait six degrés, et un marchepied d'or attenant au trône; il y avait des bras de chaque côté du siège; deux lions étaient près des bras,

And there were six steps to the throne, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne, and stays on each side of the seat, and two lions standing by the stays.

19 e t douze lions sur les six degrés de part et d'autre. Il ne s'est rien fait de pareil pour aucun royaume.

There were also twelve lions standing on one side and on the other upon the six steps. There was not the like made in any kingdom.

20 T outes les coupes du roi Salomon étaient d'or, et toute la vaisselle de la maison de la forêt du Liban était d'or pur. Rien n'était d'argent: on n'en faisait aucun cas du temps de Salomon.

And all the drinking vessels of King Solomon were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. In the days of Solomon silver was not esteemed.

21 C ar le roi avait des navires de Tarsis naviguant avec les serviteurs de Huram; et tous les trois ans arrivaient les navires de Tarsis, apportant de l'or et de l'argent, de l'ivoire, des singes et des paons.

For the king’s ships went to Tarshish with the slaves of Hiram, and every three years the ships came from Tarshish bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.

22 L e roi Salomon fut plus grand que tous les rois de la terre par les richesses et par la sagesse.

And King Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.

23 T ous les rois de la terre cherchaient à voir Salomon, pour entendre la sagesse que Dieu avait mise dans son coeur.

And all the kings of the earth sought the presence of Solomon, to hear his wisdom, that God had put in his heart.

24 E t chacun d'eux apportait son présent, des objets d'argent et des objets d'or, des vêtements, des armes, des aromates, des chevaux et des mulets; et il en était ainsi chaque année.

And of these, each his present, vessels of silver and vessels of gold and raiment, arms, spices, horses, and mules, every year.

25 S alomon avait quatre mille crèches pour les chevaux destinés à ses chars, et douze mille cavaliers qu'il plaça dans les villes où il tenait ses chars et à Jérusalem près du roi.

And Solomon also had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

26 I l dominait sur tous les rois, depuis le fleuve jusqu'au pays des Philistins et jusqu'à la frontière d'Égypte.

And he reigned over all the kings from the river even unto the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt.

27 L e roi rendit l'argent aussi commun à Jérusalem que les pierres, et les cèdres aussi nombreux que les sycomores qui croissent dans la plaine.

And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees as the sycamore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.

28 C 'était de l'Égypte et de tous les pays que l'on tirait des chevaux pour Salomon.

And they brought unto Solomon horses out of Egypt and out of all lands.

29 L e reste des actions de Salomon, les premières et les dernières, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre de Nathan, le prophète, dans la prophétie d'Achija de Silo, et dans les révélations de Jéedo, le prophète sur Jéroboam, fils de Nebath?

Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the books of Nathan, the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah, the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo, the seer against Jeroboam, the son of Nebat?

30 S alomon régna quarante ans à Jérusalem sur tout Israël.

And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

31 P uis Salomon se coucha avec ses pères, et on l'enterra dans la ville de David, son père. Et Roboam, son fils, régna à sa place.

And Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David, his father; and Rehoboam, his son, reigned in his stead.
