¶ Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy, our brother, unto Philemon, our dearly beloved and fellowlabourer,

2 à la soeur Apphia, à Archippe, notre compagnon de combat, et à l'Église qui est dans ta maison:

And to our beloved sister, Apphia, and Archippus, our fellowsoldier and to the congregation in thy house:

3 q ue la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus Christ!

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 J e rends continuellement grâces à mon Dieu, faisant mention de toi dans mes prières,

I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

5 p arce que je suis informé de la foi que tu as au Seigneur Jésus et de ta charité pour tous les saints.

hearing of thy charity and faith, which thou hast in the Lord Jesus and toward all saints;

6 J e lui demande que ta participation à la foi soit efficace pour la cause de Christ, en faisant reconnaître en nous toute espèce de bien.

that the communication of thy faith may become effectual for the knowledge of all the good that is in you by Christ Jesus.

7 J 'ai, en effet, éprouvé beaucoup de joie et de consolation au sujet de ta charité; car par toi, frère, le coeur des saints a été tranquillisé.

For we have great joy and consolation in thy charity because the bowels of the saints have been refreshed by thee, brother.

8 C 'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie en Christ toute liberté de te prescrire ce qui est convenable,

¶ Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command thee that which is expedient,

9 c 'est de préférence au nom de la charité que je t'adresse une prière, étant ce que je suis, Paul, vieillard, et de plus maintenant prisonnier de Jésus Christ.

yet for the sake of charity I rather beseech thee, being such a one as Paul the aged and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

10 J e te prie pour mon enfant, que j'ai engendré étant dans les chaînes, Onésime,

I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds,

11 q ui autrefois t'a été inutile, mais qui maintenant est utile, et à toi et à moi.

who in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now is profitable to thee and to me,

12 J e te le renvoie lui, mes propres entrailles.

whom I send again unto thee; therefore, receive him, as you would receive me.

13 J 'aurais désiré le retenir auprès de moi, pour qu'il me servît à ta place, pendant que je suis dans les chaînes pour l'Évangile.

I desired to retain him with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel,

14 T outefois, je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton avis, afin que ton bienfait ne soit pas comme forcé, mais qu'il soit volontaire.

but I did not want to do anything without thy counsel, that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

15 P eut-être a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, afin que tu le recouvres pour l'éternité,

Perhaps for this, he departed from you for a season, that thou should have him again forever,

16 n on plus comme un esclave, mais comme supérieur à un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, de moi particulièrement, et de toi à plus forte raison, soit dans la chair, soit dans le Seigneur.

not now as a slave, but above a slave, a brother beloved, especially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord.

17 S i donc tu me tiens pour ton ami, reçois-le comme moi-même.

If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.

18 E t s'il t'a fait quelque tort, ou s'il te doit quelque chose, mets-le sur mon compte.

If he has wronged thee or owes thee anything, put that on my account;

19 M oi Paul, je l'écris de ma propre main, -je paierai, pour ne pas te dire que tu te dois toi-même à moi.

I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will repay it; albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.

20 O ui, frère, que j'obtienne de toi cet avantage, dans le Seigneur; tranquillise mon coeur en Christ.

Therefore, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord, that thou might refresh my heart in the Lord.

21 C 'est en comptant sur ton obéissance que je t'écris, sachant que tu feras même au delà de ce que je dis.

Having confidence in thy obedience, I have written unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

22 E n même temps, prépare-moi un logement, car j'espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.

In the same manner prepare me also a lodging; for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

23 É paphras, mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus Christ,

Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus, salutes thee.

24 t e salue, ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas, Luc, mes compagnons d'oeuvre.

25 Q ue la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ soit avec votre esprit!
