1 ( Ein Psalm Asaphs.) Israel hat dennoch Gott zum Trost, wer nur reines Herzens ist.

¶ Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are pure in heart.

2 I ch aber hätte schier gestrauchelt mit meinen Füßen; mein Tritt wäre beinahe geglitten.

But as for me, my feet almost departed from the way; my steps had almost slipped.

3 D enn es verdroß mich der Ruhmredigen, da ich sah, daß es den Gottlosen so wohl ging.

For I became angry against the foolish when I saw the peace of the wicked.

4 D enn sie sind in keiner Gefahr des Todes, sondern stehen fest wie ein Palast.

Because there is no restraint that would bring about their death, but their strength is firm.

5 S ie sind nicht in Unglück wie andere Leute und werden nicht wie andere Menschen geplagt.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

6 D arum muß ihr Trotzen köstlich Ding sein, und ihr Frevel muß wohl getan heißen.

Therefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment.

7 I hre Person brüstet sich wie ein fetter Wanst; sie tun, was sie nur gedenken.

Their eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart.

8 S ie achten alles für nichts und reden übel davon und reden und lästern hoch her.

They are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily.

9 W as sie reden, daß muß vom Himmel herab geredet sein; was sie sagen, das muß gelten auf Erden.

They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth.

10 D arum fällt ihnen ihr Pöbel zu und laufen ihnen zu mit Haufen wie Wasser

Therefore his people shall return here; and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11 u nd sprechen: "Was sollte Gott nach jenen fragen? Was sollte der Höchste ihrer achten?"

And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12 S iehe, das sind die Gottlosen; die sind glücklich in der Welt und werden reich.

Behold, these ungodly men, without being troubled by the world obtain riches.

13 S oll es denn umsonst sein, daß mein Herz unsträflich lebt und ich meine Hände in Unschuld wasche,

Verily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency

14 i ch bin geplagt täglich, und meine Strafe ist alle Morgen da?

and been plagued all day long and chastened every morning:

15 I ch hätte auch schier so gesagt wie sie; aber siehe, damit hätte ich verdammt alle meine Kinder, die je gewesen sind.

¶ If I should say, I will speak as they do; behold, I should deny the generation of thy sons.

16 I ch dachte ihm nach, daß ich's begreifen möchte; aber es war mir zu schwer,

I shall meditate that I might understand this; it is very hard for me to see.

17 b is daß ich ging in das Heiligtum Gottes und merkte auf ihr Ende.

When I come into the sanctuary of God, then I shall understand their end.

18 J a, du setzest sie aufs Schlüpfrige und stürzest sie zu Boden.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall.

19 W ie werden sie so plötzlich zunichte! Sie gehen unter und nehmen ein Ende mit Schrecken.

How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors.

20 W ie ein Traum, wenn einer erwacht, so machst du, HERR, ihr Bild in der Stadt verschmäht.

As the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances.

21 D a es mir wehe tat im Herzen und mich stach in meine Nieren,

¶ Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys.

22 d a war ich ein Narr und wußte nichts; ich war wie ein Tier vor dir.

But I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee.

23 D ennoch bleibe ich stets an dir; denn du hältst mich bei meiner rechten Hand,

Nevertheless I was continually with thee; thou hast apprehended me by my right hand.

24 d u leitest mich nach deinem Rat und nimmst mich endlich in Ehren an.

Thou hast guided me with thy counsel, and afterward thou shalt receive me unto glory.

25 W enn ich nur dich habe, so frage ich nichts nach Himmel und Erde.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire.

26 W enn mir gleich Leib und Seele verschmachtet, so bist du doch, Gott, allezeit meines Herzens Trost und mein Teil.

My flesh and my heart fail; the strength of my heart is that God is my portion for ever.

27 D enn siehe, die von dir weichen, werden umkommen; du bringest um, alle die von dir abfallen.

For, behold, those that stray from thee shall perish; thou dost cut off all those that go a whoring from thee.

28 A ber das ist meine Freude, daß ich mich zu Gott halte und meine Zuversicht setzte auf den HERRN HERRN, daß ich verkündige all dein Tun.

But as for me, to draw near to God is good; I have put my hope in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
