1 D a nun alle Könige der Amoriter, die jenseit des Jordans gegen Abend wohnten, und alle Könige der Kanaaniter am Meer hörten, wie der HERR das Wasser des Jordans hatte ausgetrocknet vor den Kindern Israel, bis sie hinübergingen, verzagte ihr Herz, und war kein Mut mehr in ihnen vor den Kindern Israel.

¶ And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the sons of Israel until we had passed, that their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them before the sons of Israel.

2 Z u der Zeit sprach der HERR zu Josua: Mach dir steinerne Messer und beschneide die Kinder Israel zum andernmal.

At that time the LORD said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.

3 D a machte sich Josua steinerne Messer und beschnitt die Kinder Israel auf dem Hügel Araloth.

And Joshua made himself sharp knives and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4 U nd das ist die Sache, darum Josua sie beschnitt: Alles Volk, das aus Ägypten gezogen war, die Männer, alle Kriegsleute, waren gestorben in der Wüste auf dem Wege, da sie aus Ägypten zogen.

And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: All the people that had come out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, had died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5 D enn alles Volk, das auszog war beschnitten; aber alles Volk, das in der Wüste geboren war, auf dem Wege, da sie aus Ägypten zogen, das war nicht beschnitten.

Now all the people that had come out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt, were not circumcised.

6 D enn die Kinder Israel wandelten vierzig Jahre in der Wüste, bis daß das ganze Volk der Kriegsmänner, die aus Ägypten gezogen waren, umkamen, darum daß sie der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorcht hatten; wie denn der HERR ihnen geschworen hatte uns zu geben, ein Land, darin Milch und Honig fließt.

For the sons of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the people that were men of war, who had come out of Egypt, were consumed because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD; therefore, the LORD swore unto them that he would not let them see the land which the LORD had sworn unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that flows with milk and honey.

7 D eren Kinder, die an ihrer Statt waren aufgekommen, beschnitt Josua; denn sie hatten Vorhaut und waren auf dem Wege nicht beschnitten.

But their sons, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised; for they were uncircumcised because they had not been circumcised by the way.

8 U nd da das ganze Volk beschnitten war, blieben sie an ihrem Ort im Lager, bis sie heil wurden.

And when they had finished circumcising all the people, they abode in the same place in the camp until they were whole.

9 U nd der HERR sprach zu Josua: Heute habe ich die Schande Ägyptens von euch gewendet. Und diese Stätte ward Gilgal genannt bis auf diesen Tag.

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Therefore, the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

10 U nd als die Kinder Israel also in Gilgal das Lager hatten, hielten sie Passah am vierzehnten Tage des Monats am Abend auf dem Gefilde Jerichos

¶ And the sons of Israel encamped in Gilgal and celebrated the passover on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, in the plains of Jericho.

11 u nd aßen vom Getreide des Landes am Tag nach dem Passah, nämlich ungesäuertes Brot und geröstete Körner, ebendesselben Tages.

And they ate of the fruit of the land, unleavened cakes, on the next day after the passover and parched new ears of grain in the same day.

12 U nd das Man hörte auf des andern Tages, da sie des Landes Getreide aßen, daß die Kinder Israel kein Man mehr hatten, sondern aßen vom Getreide des Landes Kanaan in demselben Jahr.

And the manna ceased on the next day after they had begun to eat of the fruit of the land; and the sons of Israel never had manna again; but they ate of the fruits of the land of Canaan that year.

13 U nd es begab sich, da Josua bei Jericho war, daß er seine Augen aufhob und ward gewahr, daß ein Mann ihm gegenüberstand und hatte sein bloßes Schwert in seiner Hand. Und Josua ging zu ihm und sprach zu ihm: Gehörst du uns an oder unsern Feinden?

¶ And Joshua, being near Jericho, lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went unto him and said unto him, Art thou one of us or one of our adversaries?

14 E r sprach: Nein, sondern ich bin ein Fürst über das Heer des HERRN und bin jetzt gekommen. Da fiel Josua auf sein Angesicht zur Erde und betete an und sprach zu ihm: Was sagt mein HERR seinem Knecht?

And he said, No, but I am the Prince of the host of the LORD; now I am come. Then Joshua falling upon his face in the earth worshipped him and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his slave?

15 U nd der Fürst über das Heer des HERRN sprach zu Josua: Zieh deine Schuhe aus von deinen Füßen; denn die Stätte, darauf du stehst, ist heilig. Und Josua tat also.

And the Prince of the LORD’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place on which thou dost stand is holy. And Joshua did so.
