1 L obe den HERRN, meine Seele! HERR, mein Gott, du bist sehr herrlich; du bist schön und prächtig geschmückt.

¶ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty,

2 L icht ist dein Kleid, das du anhast; du breitest aus den Himmel wie einen Teppich;

who dost cover thyself with light as with a garment, who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain,

3 D u wölbest es oben mit Wasser; du fährst auf den Wolken wie auf einem Wagen und gehst auf den Fittichen des Windes;

who dost establish his chambers between the waters, who makes the clouds his chariot, who walks upon the wings of the wind,

4 d er du machst Winde zu deinen Engeln und zu deinen Dienern Feuerflammen;

who makes his angels spirits, his ministers a flaming fire,

5 d er du das Erdreich gegründet hast auf seinem Boden, daß es bleibt immer und ewiglich.

who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be moved by any age.

6 M it der Tiefe deckst du es wie mit einem Kleide, und Wasser standen über den Bergen.

Thou didst cover it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

7 A ber von deinem Schelten flohen sie, von deinem Donner fuhren sie dahin.

At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.

8 D ie Berge gingen hoch hervor, und die Täler setzten sich herunter zum Ort, den du ihnen gegründet hast.

The mountains were exposed; they descended through the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.

9 D u hast eine Grenze gesetzt, darüber kommen sie nicht und dürfen nicht wiederum das Erdreich bedecken.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over, that they not turn again to cover the earth.

10 D u läßt Brunnen quellen in den Gründen, daß die Wasser zwischen den Bergen hinfließen,

¶ Thou art he who sends the springs into the valleys, which run among the mountains.

11 d aß alle Tiere auf dem Felde trinken und das Wild seinen Durst lösche.

They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses quench their thirst.

12 A n denselben sitzen die Vögel des Himmels und singen unter den Zweigen.

Next to them the fowls of the heavens have their habitation; they sing among the leaves.

13 D u feuchtest die Berge von obenher; du machst das Land voll Früchte, die du schaffest;

He waters the mountains from his chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.

14 d u lässest Gras wachsen für das Vieh und Saat zu Nutz den Menschen, daß du Brot aus der Erde bringest,

He causes the hay to grow for the cattle and grass for the service of man, that he may bring forth bread out of the earth

15 u nd daß der Wein erfreue des Menschen Herz, daß seine Gestalt schön werde vom Öl und das Brot des Menschen Herz stärke;

and wine that makes glad the heart of man, making his face to shine with oil and bread which sustains man’s heart.

16 d aß die Bäume des HERRN voll Saft stehen, die Zedern Libanons, die er gepflanzt hat.

The trees of the LORD are satisfied; the cedars of Lebanon, which he has planted,

17 D aselbst nisten die Vögel, und die Reiher wohnen auf den Tannen.

that the birds may make their nests there: the stork makes her house among the fir trees.

18 D ie hohen Berge sind der Gemsen Zuflucht, und die Steinklüfte der Kaninchen.

The high mountains are a refuge for the wild goats, and the rocks for the conies.

19 D u hast den Mond gemacht, das Jahr darnach zu teilen; die Sonne weiß ihren Niedergang.

¶ He appointed the moon for times and seasons; the sun knows his going down.

20 D u machst Finsternis, daß es Nacht wird; da regen sich alle wilden Tiere,

Thou makest darkness, and it is night, wherein all the beasts of the forest move.

21 d ie jungen Löwen, die da brüllen nach dem Raub und ihre Speise suchen von Gott.

The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.

22 W enn aber die Sonne aufgeht, heben sie sich davon und legen sich in ihre Höhlen.

The sun arises, they withdraw and lay themselves down in their dens.

23 S o geht dann der Mensch aus an seine Arbeit und an sein Ackerwerk bis an den Abend.

Man goes forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.

24 H ERR, wie sind deine Werke so groß und viel! Du hast sie alle weislich geordnet, und die Erde ist voll deiner Güter.

O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom thou hast made them all; the earth is full of thy riches.

25 D as Meer, das so groß und weit ist, da wimmelt's ohne Zahl, große und kleine Tiere.

So is this great and wide sea, wherein are innumerable creeping things, both small and great beasts.

26 D aselbst gehen die Schiffe; da sind Walfische, die du gemacht hast, daß sie darin spielen.

There go the ships; there is that leviathan, whom thou didst make to play therein.

27 E s wartet alles auf dich, daß du ihnen Speise gebest zu seiner Zeit.

These wait all upon thee, that thou may give them their food in due season.

28 W enn du ihnen gibst, so sammeln sie; wenn du deine Hand auftust, so werden sie mit Gut gesättigt.

Thou givest unto them, they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.

29 V erbirgst du dein Angesicht, so erschrecken sie; du nimmst weg ihren Odem, so vergehen sie und werden wieder zu Staub.

Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; thou takest away their spirit, they cease to exist and return to their dust.

30 D u lässest aus deinen Odem, so werden sie geschaffen, und du erneuest die Gestalt der Erde.

Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the earth.

31 D ie Ehre des HERRN ist ewig; der HERR hat Wohlgefallen an seinen Werken.

¶ Let the glory of the LORD endure for ever; let the LORD rejoice in his works.

32 E r schaut die Erde an, so bebt sie; er rührt die Berge an, so rauchen sie.

He looks on the earth, and it trembles: he touches the mountains, and they smoke.

33 I ch will dem HERRN singen mein Leben lang und meinen Gott loben, solange ich bin.

I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

34 M eine Rede müsse ihm wohl gefallen. Ich freue mich des HERRN.

My meditation of him shall be sweet; I will be glad in the LORD.

35 D er Sünder müsse ein Ende werden auf Erden, und die Gottlosen nicht mehr sein. Lobe den HERRN, meine Seele! Halleluja!

Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the LORD, O my soul. Halelu- JAH (Praise ye the LORD).
